“Diving in” to a Sky Jump. My first foray into pin repair...so far it’s been fun learning how to outfox the rickety decagon score reels.

Quoted from SirScott:

Gotta love that bottle opener!

Nice eye! And agreed—a very convenient location indeed. There are a few other random holes in the cab as well. I wonder what else might’ve been bolted on over the years.

Nursed my Sky Jump back to health and got it playing about 98%. Extra bonus is the thematic backglass animation where big chunks of artwork are randomly going into free fall.

Beautiful job on that Rocket pf, o-din. Played one as a kid in the late 70s - early 80s at the Manitou Penny Arcade in Colorado. They had a bunch of woodrails which seemed to my 10-year-old brain to each be holding some sort of different and mysterious inner secret. Rocket stood out as the one that was so tough and if I lit 5 rockets it was a great day. And at 5 cents a play, even then it was like stepping back into a different time.

All populated. Now just to fix a few issues. Almost done.

Looking sweet. That playfield sure does pop.

Quoted from Blake:

Restoring a Williams Big Deal currently. Back box, bottom control board, and bottom playfield have all been thoroughly gone over. Topside playfield has been cleaned and is ready for touch ups.
Before and after pics of pf below.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Sharp. What did you use for cleaning?

#1519 3 years ago
Quoted from Blake:

First - Vacuumed heavily with brush attachment
Second - Deep clean with novice 2 (3 if sticky or stained) on micro fiber cloth. Always finishing with 2 as 3 won't buff to shine.
Third - For heavily noticeable ball swirls use naptha and magic eraser. You have to pick your battles with this step as it could be never ending, to the point of damage or hair pulling exhaustion. Idea is to make the swirls less noticeable. This step made a huge difference on the white, blue and yellow areas. You then repeat step 2 with Novus 2, which removes the residue and brings back a glossy sheen.

Thanks for running through those details for me. I’ve got some major ball swirl on the yellow parts of a pf and this helps me figure out how to tackle it.

Quoted from Sea_Wolf:

Picked up a 62’ Williams 3 Coins yesterday. Lots of work to do on this one. Melted 40 year old rubbers that have virtually disintegrated, plastics that are seriously warped.
Backglass is nice for 59 years old and I need to repaint the cabinet.
The white crap on the playfield is mostly rubber residue and should clean up decent other than the gouges on the lower center part. Although it doesn’t power up, the machine is surprisingly clean in the backbox and under the playfield, considering it’s been sitting for 30+ years (but in a climate controlled room).
Looking forward to bringing this beauty back to life.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Have fun. That’s a cool playfield layout with the slings between the flippers.

Refresh on the C-37 pinks.

Lookin’ good! Love the crisp color. I also like that you’re reporting this project on page 37 of the thread.

Got this to contend with too…

The horrors! I read somewhere that an angel gets their wings every time a cut off jones plug gets fixed.

Will be working on the Flipper Series next..
[quoted image]

What a lineup—and Flipper is the favorite game of all around here. Great stuff.

#2519 2 years ago
Quoted from Mopar:

Yup. Have them all.
Although my space is now once again becoming limited,
I eventually will have the woodrail also set up but saving it for
last. One of the red long plastic pieces (metal rails are white)
are missing, and Steve (Pinball Resource) said he was going
to have them made..
I once did a little checking, and I'm pretty sure all Flipper
woodrails are sample machines.

Redoing my Strato Flite cab. Pretty happy with how the base blue and the white are turning out for the head.

Sharp! I can see the Big Dipper.

Have been cleaning the pf of my WMS Highways. I had been wondering how tough it would be to take off the ever stylish adhesive wood grain protectors around the pops (and how much paint might come with them…). Fortunately they peeled right off. They sure did their job for 60+ years!

Quoted from stashyboy:

Early mini skeeball from 1930s. Game was a basket case. All new veneer, fabricated two back doors and trim, purchased and finished balls, back glass. Replaced playfield surface. Luckily, most of the relays/steppers were in decent shape and could be restored. It is about 6 feet long, same width as a pinball. Comes apart in 3 sections for transport. Added a 5 inch bell for double scoring. Coin slide is being replated. Fun and challenging game!

That thing is so cool. Nice work!

A while back I stenciled the ADVANCE bumper for Pit Stop since they always end up looking crispy. This morning I stenciled art for the other two so I would have a matching set.

Gave Flipper a tuneup for Christmas. Inserts leveled, pf cleaned and waxed, new rubber installed. Special touch was new plastics that I’ve been holding onto for a few years since before the late great Pinball Rescue closed shop. She plays so fast now…wow!
