Quoted from jsf24:Almost time to start repopulating the playfield.[quoted image]
What game is this?
Quoted from John_in_NC:I start with cabinets to get motivated. Been stalled on mechanics as this one had a transformer fire.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I start with the playfield so the clear has plenty of time to cure. Truth is a freshly painted cabinet looks so good it is a motivator to do the other stuff.
Quoted from bflagg:I’ve been repainting my Star Pool. The old paint was rough, faded, and poorly touched up. Made my own stencils and changed colors. The original colors really didn’t match anything else in the game.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I like the green. Good choice
Quoted from EMsInKC:Nice paint job. Did you just decide to skip the webbing?
I did light splatter. I think it’s called that. Just a bunch of small paint dots everywhere.
D2915C94-010E-46E6-99B4-22D6A8084FF6 (resized).jpegQuoted from Liftserv:That looks great
How did you do the splatter?
I used the Kemper splatter brush as stated above. Thanks for the comment.
Quoted from stashyboy:Finally got this All-American Quarterback together today. Mostly playing through a game. It is actually pretty fun![quoted image]
I’d like to see more pictures please.
Quoted from stashyboy:You maybe misreading that. The game operates at about $0.05 a play. One can set the coin mechanism to give either five or six credits for $0.25. There is a small single pin jones plug inside. Two credits for a Dime, One play for a nickel.[quoted image]
The game is unusual. Please post more pictures and let us know how you restored it.
Quoted from DCRand:Starting on Gottlieb Egg Head. Should I replace the balls? Thinking maybe just clean with WD 40. And the plunger probably doesn't need new rubber does it?[quoted image][quoted image]
Wow does the whole game look like that?
Quoted from hawkeye11:Started on the old Sure Shot today. One of my favorite EM's to play.[quoted image]
I want one of these.
Quoted from trilogybeer:My Swing Along is getting closer to completion.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Looks great
Quoted from o-din:Well, I couldn't at this time get my color printer to print the instruction card pdf with red as it came and is supposed to be, but as a boss of mine once said "close enough for government work". It is actually black, the lighting must be making it look blue.
[quoted image]
Wow that is so nice. I want it.
Quoted from pinaholic:Working on picking this up
[quoted image][quoted image]
Looks good. It’s a fun game.
Quoted from illawarra92:an old, very neglected, many parts cut out, gottlieb sea belles from 1956.
just arrived, will be doing a ground up resto.
the things we do..wish me luck![quoted image]
Wow that will be a fun project.
Florida is tough for termites. I send all my games to the exterminator. He has a sealed vault that he uses once a week. It cost me $95 for each game. I think that is cheap compared to what it would cost if they got into my house. Most folks roll the dice, but for me it's not worth the risk.
Quoted from Catch86:Well, here we go. Let the fun begin? Ughhhh...
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
That should keep you busy for awhile.
Quoted from mark532011:Finally finished my miss-o playfield. A total restore, repainted most of it. Just finished the clearcoat. Its shinier than the original so its not stock but i am really happy with it
[quoted image]
Very nice
Quoted from pinaholic:[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Good looking Cross Town.
Quoted from John_in_NC:CowPoke cabinet & main board done, head and playfield restore remains
[quoted image][quoted image]
Looks great
Quoted from Iwasthebruce:Almost done...went ahead and did the strip while waiting on a relay coil for the "Erupt Volcano". Once that's in, this beauty will be 100% again!
Everything else just needed a little cleaning
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
What game is this?
Quoted from Peruman:The strip and re-paint of the wallpapered Domino continues. The backbox was done a couple weeks ago. The front, back, and one side of the cabinet were just completed. One more side left to go before I can start to re-assemble the game.
The bottom of the front (looks all blue) was just a piece of tape I forgot to remove.
I had never stripped and painted a cabinet before. It has been a fun learning experience but I'm not sure I would get into another project like this one.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Nice job so far.
Quoted from Playdium:I took Jeff's advice and went with the Rust-o-Leum white can gloss. I am very happy with the results and the stencil peeled effortlessly. [quoted image]
Great looking cabinet. What is the name of the game?
Quoted from dr_nybble:Getting close with the Gay 90's — waiting on a coil from Marco. Total playfield repaint using airbrush and stencils.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
Looks great. How did you do the white letters?
Quoted from Peruman:Just finished getting this Big Deal flipping again. Only missing the drop target decals which are being re-created and re-caroming the lock bar end caps.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
That playfield looks great.
Quoted from EMsInKC:Merry Go Round awaits a PBR order and the return of the playfield [quoted image]
Wow that cabinet looks brand new. That old Chicago also looks great. Show us the rest of your games.
Quoted from MikeO:And Old Chicago hasn't even been repainted yet.
You buy better than me. My games are so bad they aren’t allowed in the house until they’ve been restored.
Quoted from wayinla:Dang it! What would you do?
Mistakenly put the wrong side stencil on the head of my OXO. First color. Would have to repaint and order a new right side stencil, if that’s possible.
I’m thinking it’s not much of a difference in the design and leaving it. Argh!!
[quoted image]
Pinball pimp will sell just the stencil you need. I would redo it.
Quoted from vec-tor:Here are pix of the repaired lamp strip to a Gottlieb Surf Champ.
1) Picture of repaired bayonet base socket.
[quoted image]
2) Finished stem and lamps.
[quoted image]
3) Final installation into the playfield.
[quoted image]
I hope all enjoyed.
Now onto other sections of this games repair.
What did you do?
Quoted from wayinla:Finally getting the cabinet painted. I couldn’t get that black paint off without ruining the original paint beneath it.
Before...
[quoted image][quoted image]
After. You can see where I saved the original paint at the top on the stripe that will be hidden by the rail.
[quoted image]
It looks like a pinball machine now instead of a storage box. Great work.
Quoted from John_in_NC:Finished Quick Draw restoration. Added to my em lineup. New clearcoated playfield, new backglass, plastics, posts, light sockets, cabinet restore to original, playfield glass, coin door. I have too much in it but it’s a keeper.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Wow great job
Quoted from Mopar:For 2 or 3 days Friendship was flying solo, but she's now in the line up with one of her Relatives..
I can lower the back, but up front 28.5" is too short, and 31" is too tall. I might have to customize
some 30s for the front..
[quoted image][quoted image]
love the space theme games
Quoted from jrpinball:Cleaning up and airing out this Bally "Hay-Ride" I picked up the other day. It sat for a long time and was very dirty, but it cleaned up good, and is in nice condition overall.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
What did you use to clean the cabinet and the bottom board?
Quoted from Sea_Wolf:Wild Card playfield cleaning and paint touch up finished. Fixed the mangled spinner too. Could do a little more touch up on the yellow but it’s so transparent and I don’t want any buildup. Not perfect but I can live with it. Ready for clear coat.
Amazing how well this game functions for sitting as long as it has.
[quoted image][quoted image]
I’ve always been interested in this pin. It looks like it will be fun. Do you plan to fill in the cupped inserts with the clear?
Quoted from Playdium:Finishing up on my Strange World, and awaiting a playfield from Wade.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Looks great. Nice job.
Quoted from stashyboy:Just finished this. Doesn’t always get much love. The 10/11 are always tough to collect. Owner has a nice apron for it.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Looks great.
Quoted from Blake:1934 Daval Big Bertha (Sr.)
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I’d like to see more of this one. I hope you do a restoration thread.
Quoted from John_in_NC:Finishing fast draw.
[quoted image]
Your bottom board looks great. I like the attention to detail with the labels.
Quoted from Sea_Wolf:Just brought this one home today and it’s in pretty decent shape including a nice backglass.
Looks like it’s a fun game and I’m looking forward to fixing it up but as you can see, the former owner replaced all the pool ball playfield inserts with plain white one except for the 3 and 5 up top.
They are nice and level but I sure would like to have the numbers on them. Short of finding someone parting one out, does anyone know of any type of number stencils out there for this? Maybe to use with a black oil based paint pen.
Thanks.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Water slide decals would be very easy to make since you just need numbers and the circle. Unfortunately you would need to clear coat the playfield to protect them. If you go that route let me know. I have a file for the colored balls.
Quoted from John_in_NC:Diving into a Cross Town restore
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
[quoted image]
Crosstown is a great game. It’s worth the effort.
Quoted from EMsInKC:Shopping out a Hot Tip, restoring my Cross Town, and repainting an Eight Ball Deluxe. Not an EM, still a great game though.
Cross Town playfield cleared.
[quoted image][quoted image]
That playfield looks great. It’s also a fun game.
Quoted from jrpinball:How's that Mississippi Mud Black and Tan?
This is from my Around the World project.
Quoted from dr_nybble:I don't know too much about pitch and bats, only played one once before I got this project. The original playfield is good old plywood. It was pretty beat but not unrecoverable. Thought it would be a good candidate to attempt a brand new playfield since there are not too many holes to deal with. I mostly wanted to see how hard it would be and if it could be done.
The original used "flesh" colour for the player's faces and the field. I changed the field colour to be less fleshy. This is a shot with black partially applied to the new playfield.
[quoted image]
Incredible work
Quoted from John_in_NC:I lost my mojo mid stream on my cross town restoration. I always finish my restoration’s eventually but some take a month to 5 weeks start to finish, some take 50 months plus. This will never be a beauty queen but it will work properly. I have been replacing all sockets where I can. Where I can’t I favor functionality over aesthetics.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
You’re doing a great job. Here is a picture of mine for encouragement. It’s a very fun game.
6E1D575C-D7A0-4A30-BB8F-5349699485BA (resized).jpegQuoted from Flipsteen:Restoring Williams Rocket. Cleaned very dirty PF with Novus 2 and then 99.9% alcohol and magic eraser and repeated both. Touched up a lot of missing paint. Next will level inserts with polyurethane drip method. Then more cleaning and clear. Before and After pics.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
That looks great. Your touch up skills are incredible. I can’t wait to see this finished.
Quoted from PlanetExpress:A bit of initial cleaning on the Cross Town I picked up last week… Cleaning up nicely!
[quoted image][quoted image]
I have a restored copy of this pin. It’s a great game.
Quoted from DanMarino:Bought a Jacks Open this morning. I’m going through and cleaning the stepper units and relay switches.
Right flipper is binding. I took it all apart and cleaned it, but still binding. I'll have to get a flipper rebuild kit for both flippers. I got the ball count stepper working right. It was also on 3 ball and I moved it to 5 ball. I just got the card hands to advance properly, and I think got them scoring. I just got the rollovers at the top to score. Not sure if the lights are working for the rollovers up top.
I think the lights are supposed to alternate for the lanes at the bottom, but not sure they are working yet too.
I would like to get a better back glass eventually. I like the 100,000 light in the Queen’s crown.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Great game. I enjoy mine. I get close to beating it, but I rarely get there. Makes me play one more.
Quoted from bigguybbr:Believe it or not, that's mostly drywall dust with some chunks of spackel for good measure. Maybe it was in a warehouse at some point, but most likely a barn. With how swelled up the trim is on there, I'm thinking it was a barn. Lots of rust on this guy, but I'll get it cleaned up.
[quoted image][quoted image]That's definitely something to shoot for. Fantastic work.
There were some creepy surprises, like this mud dauber nest
[quoted image]
Speaking of monochromatic, they did a nice all blue mask on the back glass.
[quoted image][quoted image]
The playfield is actually in pretty decent shape, and only needs some minor touch ups and clear coating. The cabinet needs the back replaced and the trim on the head needs replacement as well.
[quoted image][quoted image]
As grimy as this thing is, it was mostly functional and playing when I went to take a look at it. (here is how it was when I saw it)
[quoted image]
The cabinet looks alright from 15 feet, but as soon as you get close you see someone tried their hand at touch ups.
[quoted image]
This will make a good story someday about how I bought a $200 machine from an Elvis impersonator. I love working on old pins, so this will probably get me 2 months of working in my garage tinkering, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Congratulations on the new project. I have a restored version of that game. You’re welcome to come over if you need to see something. It really is a fun game.
Quoted from wolverinetuner:Thanks, I did clean up part of the bottom of the cab. The bottom board is actually fairly dirty, if you look at the near left side, where my hand must have wiped some of the dirt away when I took the board out. But it’s cleaning up pretty nicely so far with a paper towel wet with alcohol.
That’s not dirty. This is.
IMG_0791 (resized).jpegQuoted from bigguybbr:You call that dirty!?!? Hold my beer...
[quoted image]
(It looks a lot better now)
OK OK now show me after it’s clean
IMG_4783 (resized).jpegQuoted from Mathazar:The bottom board on my Night Rider. Restoration almost done....it's back together and playing and I should complete the punch list sometime in the next couple of weeks.
[quoted image]
Very nice. I like the blue board. It makes it pop.
Quoted from Colsond3:Thanks Mark. I guess I’ll powder these cream colored for now, and look for some wooden legs. I definitely like that look better. Whether it’s OEM or not. I’m going to do a full restore on this one at some point.
Haha. Whatever dude!! I’m always diversified.
I’ve been on the hunt for one of these for quite a while, and Shay finally hooked me up with one of his.
I just painted my legs cream. I think they look close enough.
IMG_1242 (resized).jpegQuoted from Mathazar:Thanks! Here's a shot of it inside the cab....[quoted image][quoted image]
Wow great job
