Hey! That's just not fair!! They're...so... beautiful!

#2902 1 year ago
Quoted from paulace:

Yeah, yeah....rub it in! Did you use Pinball Pimp stencils on that closer cabinet?
Volley's a fun game too!

Yes, he offers a great product. Very happy working with Jeff.

SW pinball artist: Hey boss, you don’t mind if I smoke a little dope at lunch do you?

Boss: I don’t care, just don’t let it affect your work.

#2904 1 year ago

I wish Gordon had smoked a little more....love that art! Gemini is beautiful too - love what he was doing in the late 70's.

Morison did the artwork for something like 146 games. I read that his apartment was full of his art - backglasses, paintings, drawings. When he died in 2000 of lung cancer, his family (who had never appreciated his pinball artwork) just threw all the backglasses in the dumpster....over 200 backglasses, some one of a kind.

HAHAHA I just watched this again, so good. I swear at the 50 second mark I keep waiting for little sparkles to appear in the center and then a Black Hole open up and start sucking everything into it as it implodes on itself. Its like watching the Hadron Collider have a meltdown.

People need to be careful this is how galaxies collapse.

Very sad if true. What's your source? There's very little information on him..

It's amazing that the motor never stopped running, even as it sat on the ground, totally liberated from it's load!

stashyboy - Had to look it up: "The Pinball Compendium 1970-1981" by Michael Shalhoub. page 181:

This paragraph follows one in which the author describes a visit to Gordon's apartment to interview him shortly before, containing a description of the stairwell to his second floor, which "was covered, floor to ceiling, with framed backglasses. It was a sight the likes of which none of us had seen before...or since."

..........................

"Fast forward to the year 2000 and the news is announced that Gordon has died of lung cancer at the age of 70. I was shocked, he seemed so young, he had just finished running in the Chicago Marathon! But that was all over and there would be no more color shots of his apartment, no finish to his King Rock story or anything else. That day in his apartment will live forever with Rob, Gary and myself. The people who got to meet and see him at Expo will always remember. But what of all that stuff in the apartment? A colleague, Keith Egging, was a speaker at Expo 2000, and told us a lot about Gordon, but the part of that talk that sticks in Gary Flower's mind is, "Dr. Egging gave us a detailed insight to this unsung pinball legend. Telling us how his family failed to appreciate Gordon's contribution to the great American tradition that is pinball, we were told that all the pinball glasses that adorned the walls of his quiet suburban home were put in the dumpster. This must have been over 200 glasses, some one of a kind."

1977 Bally Evel Knievel
New rings and a fluff and buff. Quite a bit more lively.
The lower center target should be red. I have the part but no time to install it today. That target when hit spots S-U-P-E-R and awards a replay when SUPER is completed. On some games that is the only shot I try for. Makes for a pretty short game because the ball almost always drains unless it’s a direct hit.

Finally got my Freedom prototype working, and playing 99 percent. It’s been quite a journey, the game has 200k plays. The 1000 when lit lower pop bumper has no wiring to light it. Does anyone know what turns it on so I can wire it?

Backglass is near perfect, just some cracking in the white around the score reels and the normal discoloration from the foam tape.

Second game I ever restored. The flipper drag is always an issue with that white paint. Fun game though the outlanes can be brutal.

So I replaced the anti-cheat coil on my Safari, now it’s permanently engaged and humming. Game wont boot, but does light up if I hold the anti-cheat mech closed.

The tilt is closed on the coin door. Anything else I can look at?

Anyone have a Williams game with this label still attached that can post what it is?

I have a Flipper set up, but because it being the 1st AAB game it does have a little
historic value so I agreed to go through a Friend's Ball Bowler (many hours) for another.
Not doing too much to her, just straightening out a couple bells' wiring.
I took a minute and cleaned up a bit of the Gottlieb Logo and the '10 points When Lit'
to the left of it, and looks like the playfield will clean up decently. The plastics are good
and I have a new Shay bg still in the box for her..
Thinking about trading this one and I have an eye out for a New York, Williams Jig Saw,
C.C. Thing, and I'm sure there's others I'd have interest in..
Flipper still has a pretty good value rating on Boston Pinball..

So, "Flipper" and $1500 cash?

They don’t come up often. Sometimes it’s not worth haggling over. It might be worth spending some money if you had to if they didn’t want to trade. That’s one of the few CC I would like to have. They made a few decent woodrails. I don’t know what happened when they changed over to score reels and metal rails in the 70’s…

New Hampshire isn’t far for you. plus some shippers are only couple hundred $ nationwide . You can do it!

This is the Flipper that last week was listed on Mr. Pinball for $900.00,
then the deal was made with me before it could be pulled, and he had a
fairly local buyer as is without a repro bg, so Flipper's still a good piece..
I sent a message and let him know I had multiple trading pieces, so if
Thing is in a collector's hands, something could happen..

It's better than 7 hours which isn't too bad, but if we can get a trading
deal going, then we can meet halfway. I have more machines than money,
which is one reason I like doing trades, plus I'm spending quite a few bucks
on my vintage car over the Winter, so a trade would be nice..

I’m working on my first EM, a Williams 1970 Strike Zone that was sitting in a shed for far too long. It had mice nests in the bottom and on the playfield. It’s in rough shape but I’m determined. It’s for a coworker who played this at a friends house as a kid. Now as an adult he built a bar in his garage for the neighborhood and his friend donated his old Strike Zone. Luckily I have some EM pro friends in our neighborhood to help.

It’s coming along well. After cleaning everything and confirming the switches do their thing I had some player and ball count issues. Cleaned all plugs too. Just rebuilt both player and ball count steppers so that’s all good now. Still lots to do to get this even presentable. Cleaning the playfield next, rebuilding the flippers, some new plastics, shooter tip, new balls, bulbs, rubbers, etc.

The very few I've seen come up were $1,200.00 - $1,500.00,
but for being around for 70 plus years, this one looks pretty nice..
