Readying Jungle Queen for the Atown show... free play area and for sale... sad to see it go, as it's been a much treasured pin in our household for going on 10 years. However it's time to thin the herd and make room for some new "friends". This has been a rock solid pin in the line-up, super clean, and plays like it. Sporting a new set of plastics from the boys in Australia. It does have a few very small dings mostly in the opague portions of the backglass, so I'll be using coastal airbrush "alphanamel" paints for the touchups. These paints are in stock (several one-stock colors remain OOS) and run about half the cost of one-shot enamels; will report back based on results.

Did a J Princess years ago. Took me a bit to get used to the backglass, but the game play is fun! Your game looks great, I'm sure a new owner will really appreciate all the work you've done on it.

Agreed, the BG is a bit of an odd one. Very fun game. Whacha bringing Stash? Perhaps a woodie or 2?

Game time decision whether or not I can go. I am always on call (I teach rock climbing). I would like to make ir. Haven't been in several years. I do have a High Hand that would be a good candidate for freeplay.

Dang Dono, I only live a couple of miles away from you! You'll have to let me know the next time you are selling one of your fine machines! Looking forward to playing this at Allentown!

1973 Bally Monte Carlo. Overdue for service. New rings, clean and polish. Removed coin door to polish the hinge, trim removed to buff to a shine along with the small lag bolts. Should be done this weekend, will post photos of completed work.

Ok gang, pf and bg's approved and now released for my Wizard project (Abra AAB). I had a shallow cab manufactured and have set up the first of 25. Amazingly Ive presold all 25. Do have a couple of "2nds" to sell.

Any chance you'd sell just a cabinet / head? My ACD needs a new cabinet badly!

Super rare 1971 Bally Round Up. 70 produced, never mass produced and probably only a dozen are known to exist. Design credit goes to Ted Zale but this *could* have been a Harry Williams design since it re-uses the Skill Spin Mystery Stop Bonus mechanism that Harry included in his Feb 1971 Bally Firecracker.

Restoration almost complete and Round Up will be in the Free Play area at Allentown 2022 on Friday May 6th only.

1973 Bally Monte Carlo. Coin door reinstalled after hinge and trim polishing. Operator installed lockbar removed leaving four holes in the front. I filled the holes with buffed out carriage bolts.

1972 Gottlieb Flying Carpet - Bought this on Ebay March 2021. Machine would only turn on and eject ball to shooter. If it had not turned on, I would have walked away.
I cleaned up the ball count unit and that got pretty much everything else going on the playfield. Have painted the faded cabinet and replaced all rubbers, posts, lane guides, etc. Replaced most of the bulbs with LEDs. Used mylar circles to fix many badly cupped spots on the playfield. Novus on the playfield. Had to fix some issues that the previous repairers messed up (mostly missing screws and someone left the playfield reset bar hanging down-which is why it never reset properly)
Still to do: Touch up cabinet, Fix issue with stuck O relay (will post this elsewhere), fix some switch stacks which were horribly bent when the reset bar was left down), replace or fix backglass (horribly chipped), wax with pinball wax, change over remaining bulbs to LED.

flying_carpet_MB1 (resized).jpgflying_carpet_MB1 (resized).jpg

Not a pinball, but still an EM:
1971 - Caprice Shuffle Bowler - Another Spring 2021 Ebay purchase. Worked pretty well from the get go, but the 10s reel on player one does not increment reliably. Need to disassemble and clean + check contacts. In process of replacing #47 bulbs with LEDs. Need to replace two fluorescent lamps. Cleaned playfield with NOVUS, but want to redo with silicon spray. Need to clean and lube contact boards. Right now, all the games work except I can not get it to go to the Beer Frame (changed the setting for this, but nothing happened). Using the #5 Sun glo wax and that might be a little fast....getting some of the #6 and silicone spray.

Not mine, but this is what the game looks like.

1973 Bally Monte Carlo. Finished the wax and clean. Filled in some hogged out screw holes with toothpicks and now they are tight again. Several more machines to work on before the Northwest pinball show.

Great looking game you have there; one of the nicest looking PFs of the 70s IMO. Nice use of natural wood interlaced with painted areas, it exudes a bit of class that normally isn't associated with anything pinball. I do think that the game suffers somewhat from the dopey right side lane up top, one of Bally's over-used features of that time period. Perhaps a target bank or set of targets would have helped.

Almost finished and sold...
New fuseholders, rubberset, cleaned, repaired and adjusted the contacts.
Only thing left is adjusting the bumper contacts and new bumper caps.

1975 Gottlieb Atlantis. Great playfield and backglass. The rest of the game is not so great. I don’t have time to paint the cabinet but I thought I could fit the new front coin door and other hardware until I do have time. My intention was to just polish and install new rings but on closer inspection the petrified Coca Cola/beer combination on the front of the cabinet hardware had to be dealt with now. Evaporust-ing the hardware but put the door, striker plate, and coin entry on for now. More to follow.

Starting work on a Groovy that has seen better days.

A number of cut wires, busted bottom cabinet where the coin box would have gone, and I’m pretty sure that big electrical cap and diode circuit is a hack

1972 Gottlieb Flying Carpet. Played this on location back in the day. But not very often as it was tough to win replays. Restored this one a few years back and did a quick shop on it a couple days ago. New rings and wax.

Anyone know?

Almost ready to be sold.
Some lightbulbs are not working, and some "sticky" rollovers...
Will be sold, have another project Pat Hand to work on, love the gameplay, open playfield, lot of action in combination with precision shots.
Repro backglass, original was not usable, lot of flaking.

I’ve replaced the bottom boards on 2 cabinets. It’s amazing how nice it comes out and makes you feel like you got a new box. It also gives you the opportunity to form up any other bad glue joints and get the mech board cleaned up.

Beautiful job there. Glad I was able to play a few examples of this one, some it seems are either set up too steep, or maybe the lower sling is just dead, but that can kill the gameplay really quickly. I managed to play another example set up to play much more lively and could not get enough! One of those pinball homeruns when the theme, art and gameplay/rules are all top notch!

Looking at it did lead me down a rabbit hole tho, missing that top arch lighting.. I was wondering when they stopped that.. pretty early on apparently:

Just finishing off a '64 WMS River Boat. This has had its cabinet restored, playfield areas that were badly worn around the sunken card lamp inserts repaired and repainted and the whole playfield clearcoated and then all new pop bumpers, etc fitted. Might also buy a Bgresto glass for it too, if the owner thinks it fit. Note too that I deliberately left some of th minor playfield wear 'as-is' so that it retains some of its originality. The owner didnt want it looking factory fresh, more a nice looking playfield with just some age related marks.
I've just got to clean the cab of its adhesive reside left from the stencils and a fine tune here and a few new lamp sockets here and there and it's ready to go home.

Did you cut your own stencils? The cabinet looks great. Nice work.

#2636 1 year ago

I did, yes. I use my Cameo cutter to make them, using rough cast stencil vinyl. It's very good for making all manner of pinball stuff that is otherwise unobtainable or hugely expensive to import.

Shopping out a Hot Tip EM for my friend and partner in crime. Extremely nice original game, just needed some playfield cleaning and touchups. Almost done.20220421_101554 (resized).jpg20220421_101554 (resized).jpg20220422_155016 (resized).jpg20220422_155016 (resized).jpg 20220426_192704 (resized).jpg20220426_192704 (resized).jpg20220424_113924 (resized).jpg20220424_113924 (resized).jpg20220424_162546 (resized).jpg20220424_162546 (resized).jpg20220424_184401 (resized).jpg20220424_184401 (resized).jpg20220426_192704 (resized).jpg20220426_192704 (resized).jpg20220502_120238 (resized).jpg20220502_120238 (resized).jpg20220504_195326 (resized).jpg20220504_195326 (resized).jpg20220505_152629 (resized).jpg20220505_152629 (resized).jpg20220509_121604 (resized).jpg20220509_121604 (resized).jpg

Continuing to work on Groovy. Top of playfield is stripped. Pop bumpers are going to need a touch up but the rest of the playfield should clean up OK.

Underside of the playfield is getting close. Lots of black grease everywhere. Also a number of those sockets will have to be replaced.

My schematic is on order, does anyone know the flipper coil part number?

Alberto

that looks really nice! I had a SS Hot Tip for awhile, it had the mechanism in it to simulate the sounds of an EM for the owners scared the "new" sounds of electronics would scare away customers...lol

The most expensive repair that I've ever done, particularly when you factor in postage and UK import taxes
A full set of PBR drop down balls on a Bank a Ball, to replace its home made metal ones. Presumably, who ever did this couldnt source these balls at the time. Still, I guess they did the job and better than nothing!

I played a nicely restored "Crescendo" at Pinfest. It's a really good player.

1975 Bally Wizard!
1978 Gottlieb Joker Poker
1977 Gottlieb Centigrade 37

On the Wizard, the flippers have always been too noisy. Read a post somewhere which suggested noise may be caused by plunger not hitting coil stop. I cut two notches in the flipper link to accommodate the return spring when compressed or when holding the flipper button down. Problem finally resolved after many years. My hat is off to the poster that suggested what the problem may be because I had tried everything.

Joker Poker had a rough single chute coin door. I found another EM door in much better shape. I had hoped for plug and play, but no joy. Switched the wiring harness over to the new door and added an additional light socket to illuminate both coin entries. Looks much better now.

Centigrade 37 had a coin return door jammed in the up position. Removed the coin return trough and removed the flap for buffing. One side of the spot welded coin return area was tweaked and bent back to allow the coin return flap to operate as designed.

Joker Poker with new (used) door skin, lock, and pricing inserts.

Centigrade 37 with coin return flap working as it should be, new lock, and new pricing inserts.

Just brought home my first em, a Segasa-Sonic 1977 Prospector. I bought it as a project, and just fixed the ball trough coil. Just have to fix one loose insert, change some rubbers and a few dead bulbs and we should be good to go. The playfield and backglass are in fantastic shape. The cabinet is quite nice too, which I heard for these sonic pins is not always the case. Happy to finally have an em in the mix.
