Finally finished my Miss-O and now I have moved this beauty into the workshop. She is going to get a total makeover.

Fortunately its all cosmetic, its actually working and I can play a game on it. Its a tough game, look at the size of those out-drains!

My in-laws have an elderly neighbor with an Ice-review just rotting away in their barn. I’m determined to get that thing from them before it’s destroyed. It appears to be in good shape from the pictures but they absolutely refuse to let it go. I’m just going to have to relentlessly nag them when I visit until they cave. Hoarders...ugh

The sample game version of "Ice-Revue" (not "review"), has the outlane arrangement like 'Show.
They both lack the two small plastics near the flippers.

If you weren't across the continent, I'd swap cabinets with you if you're planning on doing a repaint. Mine is way worse, and I'd keep that one original. I also have a blank playfield which although not great, is much better than yours. I don't think I've ever seen that game with such a worn playfield as yours.

Shopped out all 25 wedgeheads in my basement collection. New rubbers, clean playfield glass channels, clean and adjust switches where needed, new balls, wax playfield, replace any bad bulbs, polished chrome posts, clean playfield glass inside and out, wipe clean all metal and more.

Some games needed more attention than other due to the longevity of the years in my collection. Started in Nov 2020 and finished in Jan 2021. Man.. they are playing spectacular!

I also started shopping my other games in my collection including my Bally Bingos, Williams games and my Solid State games. Card Whiz,Countdown,Joker Poker,Blue Chip,Lite a Line,Gay Time are completed and l plan on getting to the others soon.

I totally agree, that there are more than a few instances in the 60s EM era
where more than one artist worked on a game,
where some art on the PF or plastics is definitely different from the BG artist.

Did the same surgery using a Dremel cutting tool last week on my Fast Draw. Replaced 3 drop targets in 15 minutes.

I’ll never do it any other way now.

I used a dremel tool today as well. 4 hours of grinding the excess plating from the inside of the newly replated levers!

This was my second Dremel fix and it went so much faster than the first, mostly cause I didn’t let the spring come off. It takes longer getting the playfield out (why does the playfield have a jones plug in the back box?), setting it up on the bench, and pulling the back panel off than the drop repair itself.

Afterwards I played 3 games and broke another one

Top Score done. Significant cabinet touch up, some playfield touch up, added mylar (after waxing) to center lane area from spinner down, and just below kick outs. Polished and cleaned everything. New coin door and legs curtesy of PBR. Solved multiple electrical issues. And removed the jump wire that creatively hacked it to always start a two player game. Heading to it's new home later this week. Next, Doodle Bug.

Old Chicago - playfield swap complete. A few minor issues but she's playing! I did some experimenting with LEDs under the inserts - special/extra ball/double bonus. If you decide to use LEDs in this game, you'll need the non-ghosting. Reds and green look great (photo doesn't do it justice), while pink under the extra ball inserts looks terrible; will need to try orange. The Comet 1SMDs are nice and not too bright. Metal trim and cabinet work to follow.

Much appreciated Mike. I'm typically conservative when it comes to games, but since it's a CPR playfield, I decided on some experimentation. Might get a little crazy with the cabinet art, not yet sure.

Looks great, Don. Yeah, maybe do that alternate cabinet design. I think it looks way cool.

Working on the Ice Revue, just scanned in the playfield at 600dpi. Its in moderately poor shape and the next step is to start prepping the image for touchup and paint masking

Not a bad game; curious, I see the Stan Harris operator sticker... does this game have one or more holes in the front for a locking device over the coin door and/or an inserted metal plate on the underside of the game? I believe he operated in and around Philly, and was a big fan of theft prevention.

What type of scanner do you scan a play field with?

Interesting. I have tried reproducing small parts of a pf with a close up high res picture, then rather than water slide, printed on to the thinnest photo paper I could find, then laid mylar over the glued down paper. Worked pretty well, and didn't create as much of a "bump" in the playfield as you would think. For the most part though, just use paint, tiny little brushes, and 2.5X magnifying glasses. Will be looking more closely at my printer scanner though to see if it could be laid on the playfield. Thanks.

#sea-shore Trying to adjust two Gottlieb score control relays with a total of 11 switches, 6 of which are make/break switches will turn your gray hair to white. I think I finally fixed the scoring but those short switch blades jammed into a small switch stack have zero margin of gap error and are not fun to mess with.

I worked for an operator in Southern Illinois in the 1970s who had several hundred pingames on location. Every single one of those machines had a strap across the front door, a metal kick plate under the cash-pan area of the cabinet bottom, and a locking strap across the back door of the head. We also had several hundred vending machines out, and many of those had to have locking straps added to them.

That's just how it was back then. If a pingame didn't have a locking strap across the front door, there was a 100% certainty it would be broken into. Any location, any game, any time. It didn't matter. We didn't like those straps either. They were a PITA to install, and a PITA to deal with when doing collections or service. But, the games had to have them. Sometimes when I was installing the straps on a new game, my boss would come out to the shop, see what I was doing, and rant "If people want us to turn these games into prisons, then that's what we'll do!" He hated having to spend all that money on locking straps.

I've talked with several operator friends here in the Seattle area, and none of them have this problem. I'm really glad to hear this, of course. I guess the idea of stealing coins from a cash pan is just too lame these days.

I had an acquaintance in high school that unfortunately fed his drug habit by stealing coins out of pin games. If there were no steel plates put in at the bottom of games he could get in and out of a place in a few minutes with a good cache of coins. I guess back in the 70s those coin boxes could be quite full. Still I just couldn't see why thieves would hit games for coins, didn't make much sense to me.

Safer than robbing a bank, I guess.

Fairly low risk would be my assumption.

You better believe it. I worked for an operator in a college town back then, and during the school year we had to do collections every Saturday morning on the "strip" (Illinois avenue, the main street with all the college bar and food locations). Otherwise, the cash pans of some games would get so full on Saturday night that the coin chutes would jam up.

I had to help the collection guy bring the satchels into the shop that contained the canvas bags of coins from those Saturday collections. The satchels were too heavy for one person to carry. It was a lot of money.
