Quoted from John_I:

Wow! That game is beautiful and it's on my wish list. I'll go ahead and call dibs on it for what it's worth.

Thanks. It turned out pretty nice. But the pictures may oversell it with some creative framing!

Quoted from EMsInKC:

If you have some kind of anvil you can tap that down with a hammer to straighten it. Take your time and go easy.
Fine scratches use 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Keep going up to maybe 3000 grit. Takes some work.

Of course if you know the right people then you can get it shined up really good

How did you accomplish that? Very impressive job.

Quoted from mark532011:

Picked up a decent domino. I am intrigued by the gigantic roto-domino target thingie. It’s not currently running but I am confident. The big center plastic has broken and sagged down, I will have to make a replacement.
[quoted image]

"John_in_NC" - I'm looking for a roto target for my Cow Poke - and I've noticed that possibly one off a "Domino" may also work? Anyone know which machines have similar roto targets? (To possibly open my search window..I cant find one! ugh!) These have two actual targets and the one in the center is mounted on the playfield. I have a three (3) target one if anyone needs it?

Are you chrome plating stainless now?

#906 3 years ago
Quoted from Nikrox2:

Many parts were missing on the Cowpoke's Roto Target that I went through this past Spring.
Had a parts 1972 World Series playfield, and its Roto Target mechs were identical and worked fine..

Quoted from MikeO:

Nope, strictly polish. Unfortunately it was a 1 time deal to get this done by a CA company. Probably 200-300 to get it done but I pulled in a fav.

Thanks for the coin door straightening suggestions. The chromed door posted above is very nice but that’s way beyond where I’m at with the overall goal of the machine rehab.

I got to the project today and ended with this result. I just need to put a new decal on and I’m gonna call it good.

Finally got around to cleaning up my 1969 Williams Suspense.
Full topside teardown and cleaning/wax. Cleaned all coil assemblies and added new sleeves. Rebuilt pop bumpers with new skirts.
New rubbers and wax make me worried about smashing posts and plastics! It plays FAST!
Added a hand full of leds.... as the pf is so dark! They dont look right... but you can see the ball!
Cheers from Canada!

Looks really nice! I did notice your flipper alignment isn't correct... sloped way too far down.. you'll get better play by adjusting it... see the flyer on IPDB here for proper flip alignment:

Thank you for the heads up and compliment Dono!! I appreciate the advice and link. I will correct it this afternoon

I’m still working on Heat Wave. Finally got the thermometer advance unit working smoothly. My next step is removing everything from the playfield, except maybe the pop bumpers, for a good cleaning and waxing. Then all new rubbers, shiny new mirror finish balls and we'll see how she plays.

Heat Wave, before and after a lot of elbow grease and Naptha. Novus 1 on the inserts, but haven’t waxed it yet.

I must confess, the After picture looks a lot better than the playfield does in person.

This machine has seen a lot of beer. Got what I could cleaned up.

Restoring a 1947 United Mexico for a client whose father rescued it from an old bowling alley in Dayton Ohio around the mid to late 50s. What makes this interesting is that I’ve only done one other full restoration, and that was another United flipper pin game - 1948 Serenade. The Mexico is basically a pre-flipper gambling device with a button to knock off replays. The worst part of doing these older games IMO - the stepper units... this scoring unit was stuck badly, requiring Superman strength in freeing the axle from the frame... the owner commented she remembered her father spraying a “cleaner” inside the backbox from time to time... As Tim from the Las Vegas museum says... “Contact spray is evil”... amen to that.

Check out the women’s colored hair ties On the PF used instead of rubber bands... always something new! Also check out the line cord - dry rotted insulation crumbles in your hand... yowza!

Got the rat / mice urine cleaned up in the cabinet bottom. Cleaned and adjusted all 16 score reels. Took apart the plug, to thankfully find the exposed wire was just an unconnected spacer. And got it to start a game last night. Fixed the non working pop bumper, and sling shots tonight. Totally done with electrical, yea. Now the cosmetic clean up, re-gluing almost every PF insert, and touch up painting PF and cabinet.

2001 almost done. Did the target reset mod. Just a few of the usual issues to clear up. Dirty contacts, minor tweaking to get it dialed in. Waiting on new light Shields hopefully soon from Australia via Ken inTexas! LOL.

This is a simple pattern but circles are not fun. He had not done Gigi before so i traced the design on clear film and sent them to him and he made them. Same thing we did with Time Zone which is a bit tougher pattern with a really big circle. Came out beautiful. I think it's my best restore to date.

Nice. Never considered putting extra bulbs up top, but have done the additional bulb above the lower five drop Targets on several games with this layout. Goldstrike, Eldorado, Solar City. Always thought they should have one there as there is often an interesting character that should be lit up there.

Finished this Gigi head. First time I've used one of these front design stencils. Have to go slow and carefully getting it all lined up. I sure would not want to try this with a home brew stencil 20200608_135948 (resized).jpg20200608_135948 (resized).jpg

Modified my Teacher's Pet to make the scoring more the way I like it. I probably should have put this here rather than its own thread, but I figured it would be easier for people who own the game to find in its own linked thread...

How did you do the webbing on your Gigi? I think Domino also had webbing. What you see on the Domino cabinet is paneling wall paper. Should be fun to remove.

Alberto

Good Lord. Why do people do this to games?

That is done with a Weiler brush and flat black Americana paint. I bend several of the bristles out and dip them in the paint. Then you bend the bristles back and let them go. In order to get webbing you have to be very close to the cabinet. Like an inch away. If you're further back you get spatter. The more paint on the bristles the heavier and darker the webbing is. If you look at original webbing you'll find that at times. It takes a bit of practice to refine it.

More Gigi progress. I need to shine the lockdown bar receiver a bit more and the coin chutes so the receiver is just sitting in place. Once the receiver is done I'll get the shooter in place too

Also got the 0-9 disc back in place. MikeO did some nice soldering work on some worn rivets. 26 wires to desolder. Fun!

The soldering should be routine now with your new Hakko station.

You should be able to run a start test once you put the relay boards in the body and head.

I did plug it in and hit the hold relay and the motor ran fine. Obviously without the head on yet it didn't stop but I expected that. Should get the head back together this week.

Someone had wired a switch into it and I had to remove that and wire it back to original. It worked ok but I wanted to put it back the way it originally was. I need to cover the hole they drilled in the cab.
