I think a banana duct taped to a wall would of brought in more.

    and they taste good too!

Did I hear correctly that Pennsylvania has stopped liqour sales? That’d cause some problems.

Yes. All liquor stores will be closed starting at 8PM. I just spent $300. You can still buy beer and wine at grocery stores and gas stations.

    #103 4 years ago

You know, sometimes the state you were born is does something that makes you embarrassed... what is this, Pennsylvania, your year to take stupid pills? No liquor sales, are they crazy, or just trying to shut down the bars?!? I mean this virus anxiety needs a good shot in the throat just to calm the nerves... not to mention some kind of shot in the arm to go with it... vaccine anyone? Or will this bring out the AV crowd.... oops... didn’t mean to bring them into this.

Bars were just shut down in Wisconsin today. 3 hours notice was given before 5PM deadline. On St Patrick's Day. Coincidence? (probably not)

    Restaurant dine-in also banned.

Maybe we could order more Uber Eats to help out these businesses?

    #105 4 years ago

Ammo should definitely be an option in the poll.

And yet I saw 15 kids playing basketball on the way home today. Where the hell were the parents?

For me it's been pinball coil sleeves during the dark days of pinball I figured I needed replacement parts for life, and stocked up then so my shop jobs won't put a dent in the collection

I ordered a keg of beer Saturday. Does that count as hoarding?

Nope. It just sounds like you have the same problem as me.

If a like for draft beer and pinball counts as a problem, I've got it.

Well I guess I'm hoarding ribs.

Did a grocery today and found 8 racks of ribs priced wrong at more than half price. The other 25 or so ribs in the same freezer we're of the same weight, but double the price. Didn't make sense.

I got nearly 11 kilograms of ribs for $70.

    So I'm rib hoarder now.

You're welcome anytime Gilles...but you'd have to eat them in your car. You know, social distancing and all

Curious, what is the logic on this?
Or is there just no logic?
Do people that think “virus coming, must get more guns and ammo” really believe we are just one step from the point where they are going to need to start shooting everyone? Have to hunt for food? Defend the homestead from zombies?
What is the thinking? Genuine curious

I don't see a reason to hoard ammo, but certainly makes sense to have enough onhand. When you see people fighting over TP and bare food shelves, it is nice to have a freezer filled with moose and caribou, which is a direct result of ammo.

    #118 3 years ago

Local Publix store was actually slow this morning my guess is

    1) hoarders are getting bored
    2) hoarders have run out of money
    3) hoarders have run out of space to store all the stuff

    #119 3 years ago

I hoard pinball machines, collector muscle cars, diecast, music, guitars, magazines, bobble heads,.....

As a kid we canned food from our garden.
    Saved for a rainy day.
My grandma lived through the depression.
My mom and my grandma grew up on a farm.
When I was a kid we had an earth quake.
The stores were all closed for a week or so.
We were fine because my family always had emergency supplies stored away.
I grew up hunting and fishing.
I always have plenty of stock.
    Ammo, arrows etc.
People that normally would have a 22, a shot gun. Maybe a pistol and maybe 25 rounds for each have been stocking up.
Some others have been panic buying.
Since this all started many friends have been hitting me up for advice on prepping.
    I tell them all this.
Noah didn’t start building the ark after it started raining.
Then I give them tips. Since this all started I’ve not had to buy anything other than regular grocery shopping that I would normally do.
The Boy Scout motto, be prepared.

Every time I'd go to the indoor target range I'd buy a box of 50 reloads and a box of 50 factory loads. I'd try to get a different factory box every time: various combinations of different makes (like Federal and Speer and Winchester-Western) and different weights (from 110 grain to 158 grain) and different configurations (from full metal jacket to soft point). I'd shoot the whole box of reloads first, then shoot half the box of factory loads. So every trip I would bring home 25 bullets. By doing so I have accumulated hundreds of rounds over the years. And my target accuracy isn't too bad after all that practice.

We are not there yet, but the current situation just proves how quickly society can degrade to the point of desperation.
When people become desperate, the act irrationally
When a virus wave hits us with one that kills indiscriminately - those with guns and stocked ammo will be very happy they did.
Having seen what can happen during the Baltimore riots, you don't want to be without the insurance of guns and plenty of ammo.

    #125 3 years ago

Just a little contrast. In Italy people are singing together in the evening. In America we buy ammo it seems....I'm a little concerned that our first reaction to a pandemic is to bunker up and hoard basic supplies. Life hasn't changed all that much from a supplies perspective other than you have to look a little harder for bleach and wipes. Lol. What's the reasoning behind all the gun and ammo buying? I'm really not trying to knock anyone down. I'm honestly curious if anyone on here was standing in line stocking up on a trunk load of guns and ammo.

Damn, I wish the target ranges were open.

I've got a little better than sixty. All were bought before the virus hit. I would call that collecting as opposed to hoarding.
