Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all the insert lighting on MMR is SMD LEDs which are soldered to the PCB boards under the playfield. This is one reason I personally would prefer an original MM over MMR. You have NO control over customizing the lighting yourself. Want a certain color LED or less/more brightness on a certain insert? Other than possibly using a gel/diffusion, you're pretty much stuck with the given lighting.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a MMR vs. MM thing to me. I have the same issue with newer Sterns and wish they would go back to standard sockets for this very reason.

Yes, the new hi-res display that MMR has would be nice, but I'm *very* happy with my Color DMD and the original dots on my MM.

To the OP, you'd probably be happy with either.
