I am talking about pins where drop targets are a big focus or the main objective even.

Any era, any style.

Here is a list of some good ones:

Seawitch
Bally EBD
Fathom
Target alpha/solar city
El dorado
captain card
Atlantis
Dimension
Joker poker
Drop a card
Abra cadabra
Jacks open
Surf champ

Drop targets are critical in TWD. That’s an obvious one that come to mind.

Please chime in with which are the best, the top one's from each era, or ones that could be added to the list above.

I generally think of drop target games as older, but you are right. Nice!

My personal favorites include Fire Queen, Eight Ball Deluxe, and Maverick with honorable mentions to El Dorado and Flash.

Any Bally game with in-line drops is going to be instantly high on my list.

Blackout
Flash

#7 4 years ago

Gold Strike, but it's just the add a ball version of el dorado.

Should Firepower count if the vast majority of players will never play a version with drops?

#9 4 years ago

My favorites with a lot of drop targets:

World Poker tour
Deadpool Premium/LE
The Hobbit
Farfalla (Someday I'll find one!)
Black Hole

I was actually thinking of Flash when I typed it. Brain fart. I do think I've played a drop target version, though. Just can't think of when/where.

Williams Big Daddy, certainly one of the first.

Bally Skateball

Stern Stars

And Judge Dredd for the DMD era.

That's ok. It's worth a mention anyways. It's kinda interesting because it was designed for drop targets but changed to standups, and there are pros and cons to the change.

How could I forget JD? It's sitting in my garage right now.

Gottlieb 2001 (or AAB Dimension) for the win with 20 drops

Runners up:
El Dorado (and all it's variants)
Paragon (first in-line drops)
Jacks to Open (and all it's variants)

This doesn't take into account all the great EM games loaded with drops and fun layouts. The list above was just off the top of my head.

I also love the way Black Knight uses a timer and sound effects to make clearing a bank incredibly stressful yet rewarding.

#16 4 years ago

I don't think its the "best drop target game" but hitting the drop targets on harlem globetrotters is one of my favorite shots in pinball.

#17 4 years ago

Hobbit has good use of drop targets.

#18 4 years ago

Volley has 15 and is all about drop targets.

#19 4 years ago

BIG GAME
#'s1-9 drops in order to fill x,y, and z cards on the playfield and achieve reserve bonus, which when counting down is fantastic!

Skateball is essentially a drop target version of Flash. Claude Fernandez "borrowed" heavily from Steve Ritchie's design for his first game at Bally.

#21 4 years ago

Gottlieb Hot Shots! There is no better drop target game period.

#22 4 years ago

Meteor
Star Gazer
Counterforce (this one will stress you out)

#23 4 years ago

Here is a list of Williams drop target games when they were pretty much the only company using them. Gotta give respect where respect is due.

Drop a card
Jacks Open
Royal Flush
Joker Poker
Counterforce
Alien Poker

It's interesting to see it worded this way when the only major difference in drop targets is the three bank in the upper left corner. (But I do agree it's very much inspired by Flash)

I like the drops on acdc.
F2k has great drops also

#27 4 years ago

Catacomb

Meteor was a good drop target game except the dam noise as you knock more down.

I imagine it would be rated much higher if it weren't for that.

#31 4 years ago

Far Out
Meteor
Count Down

Quoted from Daditude:

The background sound is one of the best parts of meteor

#32 4 years ago

Time Warp

#33 4 years ago

I love my countdown and it’s even better since I converted it to chimes.

#34 4 years ago

Does Taxi count?

#35 4 years ago

Atlantis is great and has the added bonus of 5,000 if you knock down two targets at the same time.

#36 4 years ago

Solar Fire

#37 4 years ago

Jack's Open
El Dorado
EBD

#38 4 years ago

Black Hole
Barracora
Jumping Jack/Jack in the Box
Meteor
Joker Poker
Torch

and pretty much every other game in my collection

#39 4 years ago

Dragonfist

#40 4 years ago

I like the drops on Centaur

#41 4 years ago

Hardest drop targets to hit have to be on Williams El Toro.

If harder is better, then add that one to the list.

#42 4 years ago

Seawitch is pretty big on drops

Also, I love inline drops. So any game with inlines. Paragon, Centaur, Frontier, TNA, etc

#43 4 years ago

Air Aces (Bally)
King Pin/Pin-Up (Gottlieb)
Sky Jump/Free Fall (Gottlieb)

#44 4 years ago

This totally meets the criteria. Gotta be very carefull to get the most points ouit of them...once they're gone they're gone.

#45 4 years ago

Solar Fire - It's about getting the upper left 3-bank twice and then scoring on the loop while you still have the double scoring going. or you can play around with the rotating 4 bank for 100K a pop.

Or Pharaoh - Get those twinned drops right and it goes quickly - rewards accuracy.

Or Defender - kill those damn drops... whatever they are supposed to be. LOL - Actually defender is all about getting your bonus multiplier up.

I'm surprised no one has said Flash Gordon yet...at least, I didn't see it

#47 4 years ago

I think Hobbit has the best drops in pinball. Theres 11 independently controlled drop targets integrated into dozens of objective based modes along side modern rules, HD animations, custom music, etc.

#48 4 years ago

Stars & Meteor come to mind.

#49 4 years ago

Win surprised no one has mentioned

DEFENDER!

15 drops , 2 5ball banks, 5 solo drops!

Not many out there, but definitely a strong contender!

FG was a great one, but that art package really wears thin after awhile.
