I love the idea of EMs, but being a modern guy I find the gameplay often repetitive and slow. I don't mind the simple rules.

In my experience I've only really enjoyed King Pin. I had a great time with the row of drop targets. All other EMs I've tried don't hold my attention.

So, what are some EMs for people who don't like EMs?

Williams Grand Prix. Great flow and incredible spinners!

Pick any of them and play someone else on them; that can help get you into them.

Mars Trek is one of the fastest EMs with a fantastic layout. It is extremely challenging.
Most modern guys that have played it want one after putting some games on it.

Wms AZTEC is a fast game with a variety of shots. So many people
knock EMs because they think they are all slow and boring. Thats
    just not true.

Stern Stars. Sounds like an EM but isn’t.

Fast Draw/Quick Draw. Get all 10 drops down on one ball and one drop target in each bank will reset where that drop is worth 5,000 instead of 500. But watch out! The drops are somewhat angled to ricochet the ball towards the outlanes.

2001, Drop a Card, 4 Million B.C. - any of the zipper flipper games really.

I like Gottlieb drop target games, High Hand, El Dorado (or the several with then same PF), Fast Draw or any of the others. C-37 is awesome. Put higher power flippers in, increase the angle and they'll play fast.

I like a variety of games from different decades (one each from the 40’s up) and manufacturers Bally. Williams Gottlieb. Wood rails and EM’s plus the other arcade type games make my room. Love the newer machines of course but the older games, sounds and styles Are what got me into this hobby

    Nip it
    Hocus Pokus

Are games we enjoy to keep going back to. Even after a new game

Going to a woody after a new game does feel very out dated tho.

I don’t think that one counts as an EM. Same with WNBJM.

Seems that solid state people like EMs with rules that extend beyond “keep the ball alive and hit as many things as possible.” I think the following games offer a bit of that.

Some fan favorites in my house:

Royal Flush—Multiple ways to approach game. You can shoot for jokers first (each one hit increases the drop target value by 1000 points per hit), or you can go right for the drops and try to increase the poker hand bonus at the end of the ball. Every shot has a function, and it requires strategy to play.

Jacks Open— similar approach to royal flush, but the resetting drop targets and the need to aim for certain hands through the progression ladder allows for a deeper ruleset than Royal flush. It needs it though because it’s a single player game.

Atlantis— I always explain the rules to people like they’re playing White Water: shoot for the lit shot. It’s progressive, and the farther into the chain you get, the more lucrative things get (as far as specials are concerned).

    How about Primus?

I really didn't think I needed a wink in there.
