Big Buck Hunter dual shooter with all the games and critters
Sega NASCAR Arcade driver game
MACH 3 laser disc game set on demo mode so you can't loose. 15 minutes of non stop action so it's all about the points. It's down now because I can't find anyone local who knows how to fix it. I want it fixed sooooo bad.

#89 4 years ago
Quoted from zrbrt:

Only consoles for this apartment dweller. Unless somebody gives up their Crystal Castles, then I'll just sleep outside.

I have a Stern box if ya need a place to stay.

#90 4 years ago

A lot of posters have Tempest but no one else has a MACH 3. Does anyone know how to work on MACH 3?

#131 4 years ago

With all of us Pinsiders that own arcade game I wish Robin would start a seperate section just for us.

.....and don't forget who wants that Mach 3 when you get tired of it!

Yeah Walt I remember. Hey maybe you could fix it for me. Your goooood.

Try joining the Seattle Metro Arcade Collectors (SMAC). We have a couple hundred members and many people sell games within the community in order to avoid CL and Ebay.

Wish we had a group like that in the MPLS/SP area.

With all these games people have no one has a MACH 3?

#242 4 years ago
Quoted from DocRotCod:

Those laserdisc games are getting more and more scarce. If it isn't the player going out it's laserdiscs getting bit rot.

That's what I thought. Thanks

#303 4 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

The easy way? I install New/NOS CRTs in them when i can.
The not so easy way? Hose them down and clean them up, let dry outside in the sun for a day or 2.
There are many art/printing options.
And some pieces i print locally.

I sure wish you could work your magic on my MACH 3. Ever rehab one of those?

#325 4 years ago

Loved that game but you had to remember "it's all in da wrists".

sssssshhhhhhhh... I mamed a brand new tron that I built (It's amazing, and looks and plays exactly like the original, but has Mad Planets, Tempest and Time Pilot and every other game that uses a spinner and or a flight stick) Don't tell those klov guys, an atomic rage bomb will set off in their server

Oh you guys make me sick....building your own games and here I can't even find someone to get my MACH 3 running. Makes me want to cry.

Maybe, but I've only restored one laser disc game so far so i don't know a lot about them.

Beautiful. That's my problem no one seems to know much about them anymore. I love that game.

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

There were some "purists" (well, one really) who I think was jealous of his work. I read all of his restoration threads as well, and was in awe. Fantastic work. Yes, he remakes cabinets. Yes that may not be "original" but at risk of a cargument.....Is a car a "restoration" of you use replacement body panels?
Things got heated on KLOV more because of terminology. At what point is it a "restoration" rather than a "reproduction"? Who cares really. Life is to short to get so upset about a freaking video game. The fact that Fizz is the "HEP" of the video game world is stunning to me as the games he brings back to showroom quality often have no replacement parts available for them.
I say keep up the good work!

He's a true cabinet maker not some hack using bondo to make an old cab "look" new. I had a few spots on my MACH 3 cab that absorbed water and were swollen, I had to gouge them out and use bondo to fill them in. On the bottom of both sides at the bottom 2-3 inches up were very bad and it still looks like crap and not very strong. Can you imagine the uproar there would be if any of the pin makers started using that MDL or whatever they used on those arcade cabs. Fizzs cabs will last 100+ years. I looove his craftsmanship.

#449 4 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

Here's another recent restoration but of a newer game.
Remade the side art and start button.
New cabinet red formica, molding, light gun.

#452 4 years ago
Quoted from labnip:

he's making them all for my private collection

When did you hit the lottery?

#453 4 years ago
Quoted from dantebean:

I've watched PACMAN's restores for a few years now. I have yet to figure out if he plays them, just collects them, resells them, or just hoards them until he can unload them in the future. No judgement here and are some of the best looking games I have ever seen.

He must have a fortune in games then.

#458 4 years ago
Quoted from labnip:

just sold my TOM at TFP for $10,000,000 last weekend so I can finally afford to buy his collection now.
adding the colorDMD really made the difference

#459 4 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

The plan is to open a museum but we'll see. I've had a few groups come through from Cub Scouts, noisy teenagers and old farts like us It was hard at first seeing the games getting beat up by kids but I knew they wouldn't stay perfect forever so I just took a deep breath and watched their faces light up in amazement. At least I know they'll never get cigarette burns again.

Good plan.

#461 4 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

I don't sell the restored games, so I have no idea

What do you do if you can't find a new control panel overlay? Luckly someone made both overlays for Tempest when I spruced mine up.

A few pics from some recent restore projects. The cocktail cabinet (an Aussie Hankin copy, but a GOOD one) was under a guys house, had no cash box so was full of rat turds, covered in 10 years worth of grime, all the metal parts were rusted, the monitor was shot, controls were dodgy and the SNK Jamma cartridge system also didn't work. I picked it up for free along with a bunch of bit's and pieces and about $300 later and a lot of hard work it really came up nice i thought. It's currently running a 60 in 1 game board but i've also got a working jamma system to swap over to with a multiple game cartridge.
The other Cabinet is obviously not an original Ikari Warriors (they are hard to come by in OZ, very rarely see them for sale). Originally this machine had a wrestling game in it but i wasn't keen on that. I've used Happ rotary joysticks (the original SNK one's are also bloody hard to find) and added some decals, etc. I would love an original but this plays awesome, so i consider that just as good

Nice work with PS. It looks to me that there's a darker brown line going through the tail of the mouse that's falling into the tub from the fold in the original picture.

Frisky Tom control panel done.

Is that a decal or painted? Looks beautiful. I got lucky and found a NOS control panel overlay for my MACH 3.....now if I could just get the game working or find someone that could get it working.

#667 4 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

The panel is painted, I made stencils for all the different colors. Black, white, yellow then red.

Quoted from Mrbill:

Before that was the "why am I collecting laserdisc games purge"

Did you have MACH 3?

#690 4 years ago
Quoted from Mrbill:

Not anymore. Mach 3, Firefox(ur and cockpit), and star rider sitdown were last 3 ld games I had. I was offered a Mach 3 cockpit a year or so ago and it was a pass. If it was an ur, I would have given it a thought. at one point I also had space ace, dragons lair, cliffhanger, astron belt, and super don. I briefly had a freedom fighter and badlands, but I got those when I was done with laserdisc and passed it along to another collector.

Cool, when mine was working it was set to demo mode so you could play all the way through, 15 minutes of non stop action...what a work out. Mine won't go past the 2nd line on the boot screen and I haven't found anyone who can come and work on it.

#696 4 years ago
Quoted from Mrbill:

I would contact joe about it. He is probably on here as acejedi (thats his sig on klov). He is expert at all things laserdisc. I have not messed with laserdisc in 10+ years.

A little off topic here but I thought I'd ask the video game guys here first. I was playing my Tempest, I smelled something burning and the monitor went dark. I pulled the back panel and found this. What got burnt and does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks much.

#704 4 years ago
Quoted from girloveswaffles:

That WAS (or should have been) a 100uFD 35 V capacitor, and it looks like it wasn't the original one by the size (if it was the right value, don't worry about the size difference).
Here's where to download the schematics for that monitor: http://www.mikesarcade.com/arcade/monitors.html
Down load the Wells Gardner "K6100 - 2nd Printing" PDF file.

I had some work done to it because the picture was squed. Got it back and it worked fine for about 30 hours of run time then this. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

#705 4 years ago
Quoted from Mrbill:

maybe you can find someone local to repair it. if not, You can ship the chassis (need to send the frame too) to chad at arcadecup

Thanks for the info, couldn't find anyone local to fix it last time (see last post). Thanks for the info, really appreciate it.

#708 4 years ago
Quoted from Mrbill:

there are a few others that could. Some of the guys who post on klov would and possibly for a bit less, but chad knows what he is doing and has an established web page.
A few things you should look into doing to tempest. all depends on if tempest is a long term keeper for you and your repair skill level:
1:replace Big blue filter cap in transformer
2:recap the ARII board. Maybe look into doing the sense mod(You can read for and against on this).
3:Have the pcb rebuilt (replace the pots, recap the board, and reflow the pins on the interconnect cable)
4:check to make sure your edge connector fits tightly. if not, you might want to look into repining the connector.
5:if your spinner makes a brrrr sound when you spin it. look into lubricating or replacing the plastic bushings.

WOW you really know your stuff thanks. I did #5 already.

You DON'T. To be complete every home gameroom should have at least 2. Time to catch up to the Jones's.

#780 4 years ago

Just unloaded a very nice Operation Wolf into my garage. Side art is nice and bright with just a few smaller scrapes not even through into the wood, gun looks and operates great with recoil, black paint on the front and coin doors is almost perfect, the marque is perfect, the printed front glass has a couple of scratches but the printing looks great and the monitor is nice and bright with no burn in. The only negative is the top overlay that the gun is mounted onto has part of it peeled away. No rot or water damage on the compress board cabinet.

#913 4 years ago
Quoted from Mancave:

Well this restore project is finally finished after a bloody long time (been over a year since this machine was dragged out from under a blokes house), it was T-rashed at the start of this "mission", every metal part rusted to hell, virtually no stickers left, the front part of the shroud was busted from the top of the monitor (in the middle) almost up to the top and cracked in a lot of other areas, the monitor was cactus (snapped off at the back) and the game board was too corroded to be used (also the complimentary rat turds ). It also had been altered over the years in various places (checker plate metal panels on the base sides) and bits just plain missing (all the chrome edging). I can't thank my bro enough for the awesome fibreglass repair job and fantastic paint job on the upper shrouds, without that it just wouldn't have come together. I've tried to keep this machine as original as possible but there's some obvious omissions, mainly the chrome edging (very hard to find) and to be honest i didn't want to spend the extra time making them from scratch. It's also difficult to find accurate pics for decal placement, a search on google reveals machines with varying placements and missing stickers. In the end i used an original flyer as a guide but i've also taken a few liberties as well. Although i really felt i did a good job on my Super Sprint restore THIS one is my fav so far

#1057 3 years ago

Hey PACMAN do you know where I can get 1/4-20, 1 and 3/4 inch long clear plastic nuts and bolts? Hex head bolts would be fine. Thanks for any help.

#1059 3 years ago
Quoted from PACMAN:

Hmmm never used clear before, what game are they for?

Well, beatmaster made me a custom shooter housing light up for my Batman Forever. Have you seen his shooter light ups? It lights the big 6 bolt plate (on edge) the shooter gun is on and because the light up plastic lights up the whole plastic I was thinking that instead of mounting that plate with 6 regular bolts that the light would also light up the 6 bolt heads if they were clear plastic. Because there are 6 bolts holding that plate on the clear plastic bolts would not have to be tightened down very hard, hard enough to break them. It's a crazy idea I know but I think it would look way cool.

Its really F-ing stupid that this thread is in the basement. Coin operated ARCADE GAMES are VERY closely related to pinball but this thread is lumped into a garbage bin with threads about Blow Jobs, Playboys, Drinking, NCAA, Cigars, Bowling, Jeeps, Partying, Concert Tickets, Politics, GETTING HIGH and on and on. Plus it doesn't show up in my active threads so i have to go digging through all the lame BS in the basement to find it. I'm officially LEAVING this thread forever and taking my games with me.

Aw man, I REALLY enjoyed seeing your OUTSTANDING games. Your a true craftsman.

Okay, so I'm in Florida at Disney's Saratoga Springs currently, and happened to look on ebay and there was a Black Hole for a fair price....in Kissimmee...and I'm driving my truck. Sooo
I shoot over there and he has a PacMan arcade game for sale too for the fair price of $350. I load both. I've been looking for a Pacman for a few months, as I too, have been bitten by the vid bug. There is just something so cool and iconic about these games, to be working still, playing them- instant time machine for me, and the art is awesome.
Anyways, I have a full load and I went to the theme park connection warehouse to poke around at the disney prop stuff. I've been there a few times over the years and always noticed they had an original Centipede with a dopey $950 price on it. The owner notices my truck and says ''hey, interested in the Centipede for cheap?''................
"'How cheap?'' I said.
$200 I said, but we settled at $225. I tetris this in the back of the truck. I'm FULL/DONE/SCREW DOWN THE MAN HOLE COVER.
I need to go to Walmart tomorrow for a tarp and a couple more straps, this should be an interesting ride home in about 10 days LOL!
My list now includes:
Original Pacman
Original Ms Pac Man (have to pickup from a friend back home)
Original Centipede
Gunsmoke conversion in a pacman cab (looks slick)
Big Buck Hunter 2
Mario Bros dedicated
A 60-1 I'm working on, but may convert this to a Final Fight (yeah, I think I'm going to, Final Fight is bad ass)

Question, is the neck of a tv picture tube supposed to glow a bit when it's working?

IMGA0074 (resized).JPG

#1535 2 years ago

I just turned the lights off in the garage where the game is and now I can see that there 4 tiny spots in the neck that are very faintly glowing but still no screen.

#1544 2 years ago
Quoted from j_m_:

all neck glow indicates is:
1) you are getting power to the monitor and
2) the neck is intact and a vacuum still exists inside of the tube)
if you are not getting a picture then your problem resides elsewhere (most likely on the deflection board, commonly referred to as the chassis for raster monitors), but it could also be something on the arcade game's circuit board(s) (depending on the game)

I found the problem, the 5v on the power board is out. Put the power board from my other MACH 3 in and I now have power. This game is driving me crazy.

YES. Will post pics when I am done. 2900 sq foot game room. my other house was only 1500 sq feet and was full.

Oh crap THAT'S a BIG gameroom.

#1599 2 years ago

I finally got one of MACH 3 games working, I swapped the power board that went out with one from my other game and inserted the thumb drive that they sent me with the proper game on it. Fired up the game, watched the install bar on the monitor move till it was completely downloaded and bang the game started. I have some fine tuning to do because a disc error screen comes up about every 7 seconds and the target boxes you shoot are sometimes in the wrong place but hey IT WORKS!! In the demo mode you get to play the game all the way through, almost 15 minutes but even with the errors it was GREAT to play again after almost 30 years. While I was waiting for the new game code to come I replaced the plastic coin slots and painted the housings gold and put red and blue clear buttons in and lit them up. Now all I have to do is get the 5v on the other power board fixed and in my other MACH 3, download the game OS into the other Dexter board, again do some fine tuning and then I'll have two working MACH 3's, one in the basement gameroom and one in the garage/shop/gameroom II. The first picture is of one of the Dexter boards and the rest are of the game in the garage.

Cool, at least there's 2 of us that have the game. I had to send the thumb drives back cuz he put the wrong OS on them. I still have to figure out how to fine tune the 2 pots on the sync board to get it working without the errors, I'm REALLY bad at that kind of stuff. I have a new control panel overlay for one of mine but man taking that joystick out and back in looks like a REAL pain. I'm also gonna try putting a powered subwoofer on to hear what it sounds like, not expecting much difference though.

Here is my latest addition to the game room.

Now that's a fun shooter game.

#1613 2 years ago
Quoted from jimjim66:

The main reason I got it was how bad ass it looks. Gun games can have a short life as you can just keep pushing the start button and finish the game in one setting. So for me, the looks came into play. When people walk into the game room, it has that wow factor.
My buddies helped restore it, side art, lighting, new guns, etc... it looks new. Still 1/2 the price of a new pin.
Pinball has the replay for me, but for the average person walking into the game room, this has the it factor. The average person doesn't understand why I would have more than one pinball.

Yes it does have that WOW factor, same with my MACH 3 which can be played all the way through so it's all about the points. I have over 800,000 points so far which is NOT easy.

Not on here much anymore because I have shifted focus to collect a few arcades. Just got this going tonight, still doing work to them, but they are playable. Also waiting for shipment of a pair of Initial D 4's. Will eventually convert them to a newer version such as 8.

Damn that's a monster, how much does that thing weigh.

#1706 2 years ago
Quoted from dung:

1200lbs each. I have a walk in basement, but had to disassemble the entire game to get it in the basement. Believe it or not moved the second by myself from the front right side of my house, garage, to the back left, basement. Was an interesting way to meet my neighbors.
The second pic is one of the two coming. 635lbs each. Will also have to take apart to get them in the basement. Frankly, having more fun with the arcades than the pins these days. Pins have become too expensive. One of my radicals would pay for both of my initial d's plus the shipping. Would even have change left over. The f355's I have 1k in one and 1200 in the other. They are worth quite a bit more, but frankly it is much easier to find deals on arcades than pins. Lot less cut throat.

WOW those are nuts. For a driving game I would like to get one of those 3 screen driving simulators. You can pick up a nice one for 3-5k and they have a small foot print. They aren't a game so you can drive a track for hours if ya want.

Quoted from RetroGamerJP:

thanks! --- good catch. When we play I actually do break from the other side but for the most part the pool table is the least used attraction in the basement and for some reason I prefer to look a it setup this direction.

Before I got pins I had a 7ft slate table in the basement and kept launching the Q on breaks (I break hard lol) so I moved the table out to my garage/shop/Game Room II.

My two brothers and I used our paper route money in 1984 and bought a Tempest. We were in junior high and Freshman in high school. Back then it was $250.
