Quoted from RDReynolds:

I want pics of both the 183 games AND the marquee, otherwise I question whether both actually exist.

That would take awhile

How about just randomly picking one and I'll post pics of it.

Not yet, have some of them together though.

Quoted from epthegeek:

Don't have them all in a big gameroom?

I restored them.

Quoted from pinballpete:

Where do you get these restored? That EDOT looks sweet. Is the someplace that is the equivalent of HEP for arcade machines? I would love to find one or two old school titles done up really nice. Joust or Star Wars come to mind.

#250 9 years ago

Here you go muchacho. I remade the CPO, bezel and side art for this sucker. Made custom decals for the buttons too but they were too busy so i went back to red and white buttons.

Quoted from ZEN:

Please post pics of the Rygar, I never did get to see what that looked like. I'd love to see that and get some of that side art so I don't have to use my nos..

Wow! These look brand new.

Quoted from altan:

Ohh! I like this thread. This is because I think pins and vids go together great. A gameroom with both is better than the sum of the two, IMHO.
I just finished fixing the Amplifone deflection board in my Atari Star Wars. That was after some initial repair attempts failing!
I currently have (in no particular order):
Atari Area 51 Site 4
Atari Asteroids Deluxe
Atari Marble Madness
Atari Star Wars
Atari Tempest Cocktail
Atari RoadBlasters (kit for system 1, swap out with Marble Madness)
Sega Daytona 2
(Check out http://www.aaarpinball.com for info on all of these... I recently did a restore on the Tempest cocktail)
And now some random pics...

Gorgeous games here. Its funny how the "Monster" Gun doesn't actually have any monsters at all. The flyer is a straight up ripoff of Disney's Sleeping Beauty dragon too. Thats a very RARE bird and worth a pretty penny.

Quoted from ZNET:

The arcade games currently in my gameroom are all electromechanicals. They are as follows:
1) Kasco Ninja Gun (late 1970s). One minute, unlimited shots, to kill ninja warriors, including holographic ninjas during daylight and at sunset.
2) Sega Gun Fight (1969/70). Mannequin gunfighter puppets and cactus collapse when shot.
3) Sega Monster Gun (1972). I have 2 Youtube videos posted of this fun nylon pellet projectile shooter game. Only two examples of this game are known to exist. Here's a link:
» YouTube video
4) Keeney Deluxe Texas Leaguer (1940s)
5) Chicago Coin Basketball Champ (1947). For sale, by the way. I have the cabinet stencils.
6) Genco Two Player "Super" Basketball (1954)

I don't know of anyone else that has such a massive list , great work! Legendary

#256 9 years ago

Thanks but the madness is coming to a close soon, i'm winding down my operation.

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

Wow! Used to think you might have a pinball problem. Still believe in the need for an intervention ... but maybe the pins and vids can be combined into one big event. Sheesh....thought I had issues. :extremely jealous:

Short answer. I can't have everything

I started with rarer titles, from there I've worked my way back to more common stuff like those you mentioned. I may get them, we'll see.

Quoted from labnip:

why no Defender or Stargate or Zazzon in the list ?

#266 9 years ago

Ha ha, of course

Made custom art for it too.

Quoted from labnip:

...of course, the RoadBlasters is primo too.

That would be very cool.

Add Inferno Arcade and Grand Lizard Pinball to the list.

Not sure how they related beyond the reptile similarity.

Quoted from labnip:

too nice
aside from drooling to get Choplifter & RoadBlasters in the collection...
i've also been looking for find awesome representations of the arcade games that would match each of my pins that are based on 80's arcade games, such as:
Defender
TRON LE
Q*berts Quest
Space Invaders
Joust
Super Mario Bros
Mr & Mrs Pacman
Star Wars
...few others...
One day, it'd be great to see the arcades next to the pins.

I create some of the art for my custom stuff but a few pieces i hired an illustrator to create my vision. I just give art direction in that case.

Quoted from Chosen_S:

All custom?? Who is your artist? Very impressed at the application of color, design meets original need
One of my favorite games even in its simplicity. Projects like this make me fall in love with the hobby all over again

#293 9 years ago

Monitors:
The easy way? I install New/NOS CRTs in them when i can.
The not so easy way? Hose them down and clean them up, let dry outside in the sun for a day or 2.

There are many art/printing options.

thisoldgame.com
gameongrafix.com
phoenixarcade.com
arcadeoverlays.com
arcadeshop.com

And some pieces i print locally.

Quoted from xfassa:

PACMAN - I have to ask, how do you get the monitor/chassis looking like new in all those machines??? Also, any recommendations on best practices for how/where to get artwork printed? Again, amazing collection. Thank you very much for sharing.

#294 9 years ago

Yeah, i used to have stuff on KLOV but a few jealous a-wipes were constantly trolling me. When i told them to shove it i got banned. I yanked my pics because the Mods are D-Bags over there.

I'm building my own site now though which will showcase all my games, restorations and art projects.

Quoted from epthegeek:

So given this bit of information I figured I knew where I'd be able to find a treasure trove of restore porn on all these projects, and google turned up exactly what I expected. But, alas, all the images from those posts are moved/deleted (insert Price is Right sad trombone noise)

#295 9 years ago

I see them now and then, there was one up in Corona a few months ago. Never played one but it looks interesting. I also have NOS art for Cal .50. It wouldn't be hard to convert any rotary game to a Cal.50, just need the artwork.

Quoted from Aurich:

Hey PACMAN, you ever come across a Cal. 50? I'm always asking people who like rotary stick games if they've played it and it's apparently more rare than I realized, most haven't even heard of it.

#296 9 years ago

Here you go.

Quoted from j_m_:

what I'm surprised is that with 6 pages of arcade games, no one owns a gottlieb reactor? awesome attract mode music.

Interesting, looks just like the LS30's that are on Ikari, just green. So instead of clicking into position it spins freely?

Maybe, but I've only restored one laser disc game so far so i don't know a lot about them.

I don't sell the restored games, so I have no idea

Quoted from MustangPaul:

When your done with it how much does something like that sell for, if you don't mind me asking.

#456 9 years ago

The plan is to open a museum but we'll see. I've had a few groups come through from Cub Scouts, noisy teenagers and old farts like us It was hard at first seeing the games getting beat up by kids but I knew they wouldn't stay perfect forever so I just took a deep breath and watched their faces light up in amazement. At least I know they'll never get cigarette burns again.

Quoted from dantebean:

I've watched PACMAN's restores for a few years now. I have yet to figure out if he plays them, just collects them, resells them, or just hoards them until he can unload them in the future. No judgement here and are some of the best looking games I have ever seen.

#463 8 years ago

I make my own

I've completed about 200 art projects in the last 4 years or so.
Cpos, side art, bezels, marquees, etc.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

What do you do if you can't find a new control panel overlay? Luckly someone made both overlays for Tempest when I spruced mine up.

#465 8 years ago

Crossbow cpos are getting dialed in with the help of my bud Mark.
Wrapping up the Mad Planets lower cpo first. Then the crossbow side art will be next.

Quoted from Fast-Ed:

Yes I saw some cool stuff you made over on klov. Did you ever finish the crossbow stuff? I need cpo and sideart. Let me know. Ed

#471 8 years ago

Yep, i like it too even though the controls are wonky. Especially when you have to fly in reverse to escape the Death Star explosion.

Quoted from Code_Blue:

It's not a vector. It's the red-headed stepchild of the series. Most people hated it (I like it). While it has the flight yoke controller, the game is played from an isometric perspective (like Zaxxon) which makes control a little counterintuitive.

Slither was a humongous pain in the ass.

Original cabinet. Made new stencils, color matched, painted and clear coated.
Was missing PCB, had to track one down and get it working.
Had to rebuild the power supply.
Build a new wiring harness.
Touch up the bezel glass.
Luckily the CPO is original and nearly flawless, a little Krud Kutter and it came out super clean.
Powder coated the coin door and brackets.
New buttons, new 2 1/4 trac ball, new monitor, new speakers, new t-molding, new locks keys….

This was actually built 4 years ago but i just barely got the CPO artwork sorted out.

Oh and a few 80's quarters.

Slither is waaaay better than Centipede! Although the art on Centipede is a lot cooler.

Quoted from Schusler:

Dan, I really wish I could give you an exact answer.
I can't imagine too many are still left. I started acquiring parts way before I found a converted cab. I was really lucky and found a working boardset from an op (which you know is a pain in the ass).
I was part of the bidding war on Ebay sometime back for Slither - I think it went almost to 2k???? There was another one Lloyd had Coinop that sold quick.
I'm probably one of the few that prefer Slither over Centipede!

Working on a thrashed, mouse infested rare game called Frisky Tom right now. You can seriously smell the mouse pee from 10 feet away. Building a new cabinet and restoring all the artwork.

Side art was a nightmare. Faded to yellow on one side, folded, peeling, basically disintegrating. Had to unleash all sorts of photoshop voodoo to get this thing to work.

Great video. You're on you're way! I restored my first game in 2010, it was an Exidy Crossbow.

Quoted from thearcadegeek:

I shot a quick video today of each arcade machine I have in my garage. Each of these games is going to be restored or refreshed this year. I'm planning to put out one video per restore focusing more on the story about how I got the game and what work i plan to do. Then some "after" footage of the end result. Once the game is restored i'll bring it in to the actual game room.
This video focuses on the mess of a garage I started with and the end result of 2 days of cleaning and organizing. Then I go through each game in the restore queue.
Hopefully a decent amount of content this year!

Usually about 20 active projects at a time.

Quoted from pinballsmith:

How many games do you work on at a time? You seem to be pumping them out at a pretty steady pace.

Nope but did spray a light clear coat. Only use automotive, all others will yellow.

Quoted from pinballsmith:

Did you laminate the front of the cabinet by any chance? I've been debating laminating the front of mine for durability reasons.

Nevermind, nothing to see here.

Its really F-ing stupid that this thread is in the basement. Coin operated ARCADE GAMES are VERY closely related to pinball but this thread is lumped into a garbage bin with threads about Blow Jobs, Playboys, Drinking, NCAA, Cigars, Bowling, Jeeps, Partying, Concert Tickets, Politics, GETTING HIGH and on and on. Plus it doesn't show up in my active threads so i have to go digging through all the lame BS in the basement to find it. I'm officially LEAVING this thread forever and taking my games with me.

I feel your pain buddy.

Two words.

Storage unit.

Quoted from labnip:

i have a scary amount of cabarets & have about 13 more already on the way
i totally have NO SPACE to put any of the new ones (no joke). i'm up bleep creek right now. Need to get an office space to put them in, or open a frickin' arcade or something... any ideas?
my long-term goal was to get more property, add a building & put them in there as a personal arcade. But, haven't done that part of the equation yet, and didn't expect this much volume to become available in this period of time. arrrgggg!!! help!!!

#1333 7 years ago

I know!

Power supply was bad. Had 2 actually go bad. Threw them away once I found a converter/switcher on Arcadeshop's website that just popped right in.

I didn't want to remake the artwork because I'm slammed so I bought side art from pastucia on EBay. Didn't look closely at his auction. Big mistake.
Missing all kinds of details, like eye brows!! Brought it to his attention and even sent him scans of my game so he could fix it. Long story short, he eventually sent me new side art but didn't, I repeat. DIDNT fix the artwork!!
Dumbass! I tried to explain to him what was wrong and he just cussed me out and said I was trying to swindle him for free artwork.

I should have known better, his stuff is all garbage. Either downloaded from free sites or stolen from other vendors.

Anyway....I ended up redrawing and reproducing all the side art and front art myself.

#1338 7 years ago

I don't know if it works yet. The power cord was cut so i couldn't test it. It's all there though so it should. And yes, it's the moving kind.
This will be my 3rd time restoring a Space Harrier Deluxe. I'll be selling this one when it's done.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

hey that's a cool find. Does it work? Does it move during game play?

#1346 7 years ago

It's pretty gross but it will look like new once i'm done with it

IMG_3064 (resized).jpgIMG_3064 (resized).jpg

#1348 7 years ago

I might document this one. It should go pretty fast since i've dealt with all the twists and turns the other 2 threw at me.

Never done a MACH 3. The only laser i tackled was Dragon's Lair. Yeah, Dexter is pretty amazing. I got in on it the second time around.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Yeah that's a mess. A game like this would make a great restore thread. I'd follow it, it looks really interesting. Have you ever redone a MACH 3? That Dexter board is gonna bring mine back to life. But the cab.

#1350 7 years ago

Dragon's Lair! Installed a N.O.S. CPO on this baby. I scanned it first though.
The only licensed CPO available out there is way off and it has hairs in the artwork when it was scanned.

Where's the control panel art?

Quoted from Reality_Studio:

We're the same time zone, but a few too many miles apart
Finished my Time Pilot restore, started as basically an empty cabinet missing most everything except a jamma harness and switching power supply. Kept it as a jamma cabinet, but made it look like Time Pilot again, pretty happy with the outcome. Videos of the restore are on my youtube channel, part one is here, it's four parts total:

#1436 7 years ago

So it's a generic Jamma setup with time pilot art? Im guessing you wanted it to play multiple games instead of just one dedicated game?

It's not really a Time Pilot than is it? Also, to really play TP right it needs a Monroe joystick.

Is this going in your porn star arcade?

#1437 7 years ago

My CPO is N.O.S. actually so I didn't need to make a repro for it. There are others out there though.

I did however work with Rich at thisoldgsme to fine tune the front and side art.

Oh and I remade the bezel art.

Time Pilot is one of my top 10 favorite games of all time.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

he didn't buy it from you yet.

#1445 7 years ago

Yeah, I get what you're saying. 90's games are pretty much generic and easily swappable between cabinets. Good luck playing Spy Hunter, Paperboy, Tron, frontline, tempest, missile command, any driving game, etc. though.

I think a big part of the experience is having the dedicated artwork and controls.

Quoted from Aurich:

Original cabs are very cool, but I'm a player, not a collector, and I just care about getting the real PCB game experience. My candy cabs switch up, right now I'm running Wyvern Wings, Bubble Bobble, Street Fighter Alpha 2, and SFIII Third Strike.
Tomorrow I might switch Third Strike to Hyper Fighting, Alpha 3 to Progear, Bubble Bobble to Puzzle Bobble, and Wyvern Wings to Espgaluda.
I like variety and also games from eras where they didn't have dedicated cabs. fun to mix it up as the mood strikes me.

Ha ha. It’s a blessing and a curse.

Quoted from Travish:

Death race was always one of my favorites.
Looks like we have the same need for detail. My boy asked one time why I was stripping/painting bolts under the dash of the Buick when we were rebuilding the air box/heater core. I said because it's there.

Thanks, it took a long while to restore it. Plays fast and smooth now.

Star Castle is a great game too. Got pix of mine around here somewhere.

Holy crap that Tailgunner is Minty Fresh.
I had a nice Star Castle once but that machine is ridiculous.
It looks like it rolled off the assembly line yesterday.
Kudos.

Yep, dedicated AND conversion NOS kits out there. It’s a beautiful custom build and I have no idea why anyone would criticize something so trivial - although I’ve taken a lot of crap over the years for less

Cool! What games does it have on it?

Quoted from Deltron:

I just finished up a one of a kind Nintendo VS Star Wars multi vector.

Wish I knew this about you before I sold the cabinet to you. I have MANY original games. Its what I prefer. If I could find super nice original games id just buy them and be done. Shockingly, beautiful original 40 year old games are NOT available. Maybe if I started collecting in 1987 I would have found them all.

What IS available, are trashed, mouse turd ridden, water logged, smoked out, used condom filled, disingrating cabinets.
You may not mind having that in your game room, but I do.

If I find a game that has what I consider a salvageable cabinet, I RESTORE the wood using bondo, wood hardners, etc sand the crap out it, then touch it up.

If not, I replace the wood. Cutting a new cabinet by hand. No CNC - using the same, or as close as possible to the original material.

If the cabinet was painted or stenciled originally, then the cabinet is painted exactly how it was from the factory. Not an easy task.

After that I apply NOS artwork if I can find it. So far I’ve acquired and scanned, RESTORED, and archived 150+ pieces of NOS art. Art that is now safely preserved.

If I can’t find NOS, I look for the next best thing - screen printed reproduction art.

If I can’t find either, I scan the artwork directly off the game - which I might add is usually in really bad shape (scratches, tears, bubbling, shrinking, fading) then I RESTORE that artwork, do several color corrections, and print it. A very time consuming and meticulous task.

The machines are then broken down into dozens of pieces and sorted.

The glass is replaced, the electronics and wiring are cleaned up. Monitors are replaced or rebuilt. Pcbs are fixed, power supplies are bullet proofed. Bulbs replaced.

The plastics and t-molding are replaced or RESTORED.

The metal is RESTORED or in some cases fabricated when missing or too far gone. Rust is sand blasted away and replaced with powder coating. Or chrome, zinc, etc. Or a crap ton of polishing does the trick.

Controls are all dialed in and everything is tested and adjusted for optimal playability.

So enough of your re-creation BS. There’s a lot more to it than replacing wood.

A funny thing is, I’m betting you used Reproduction cpo and bezel artwork on that Reactor cabinet I sold you. Or even a new monitor, new buttons, leg leveled, bolts or smoked glass. If you did anything to this or any other game you own you’d be very hypocritical.

Quoted from Mrbill:

I don’t know what they do to their pins, so I can’t comment on it. But when you gut a game, build a new cab, throw repo art on it, it’s not a restoration. It’s a re-creation/revision. It’s his game, he is free to do what he wants. But when he starts to sell them, it’s a bit disingenuous to call them original.
Is sort of like those guys who were converting pinballs into medieval madness. It’s not a real game, it may look right and work, but it’s not a genuine medieval. I would never buy one, but maybe someone else might, or get fooled into thinking it’s original.

My favorites are BBH world and Carnival King. Egg Venture, police trainer and Area 51 series are great too.

Quoted from ovfdfireman:

We just added panic museum and it's the best shooter game I have ever owned to date. Next to buck hunter and Aliens

Quoted from per3per3:

Does anyone have an opinion on the best gun games for fun and longevity? I was thinking it would be between games like police trainer, point blank and carnival king. Would love to hear perspectives from folks who own or have owners titles like these

How about “Dragons Lair”

Quoted from gliebig:

My new machine is getting ready to ship. Final thing is I can choose a custom marquee name. I don't want to put anything with my name on it. I'm trying to keep it kinda generic if I ever decide to sell it.
Ideas?
Arcade Classics?
Timeline Arcade?

Still sorting games but thought you’d enjoy pix of this rare beast. I still remember seeing this wheeled into my arcade as a kid. DARIUS blew us away because we couldn’t figure out how super wide screen worked. It’s original, just needed some cabinet touch ups. One of the 13” monitors needs a cap kit so I’ll probably just do all 3.

#2055 5 years ago

Such a cool cabinet and amazing artwork. I also acquired a super rare original DARIUS poster that I’ll be scanning to print out repro posters and tshirts.

Yes, life sure gets complicated, kids just don’t realize how great it is to not have many responsibilities and just enjoy life.

The big ones are a blast but man, so much work to restore and especially get working right.

Atari FB 4player - I think there’s only 1 person on Earth that knows how to fix those stupid Pcbs.

Quoted from nascarrey:

Your 'sit down' row has some highly desired (and rare) games!
Discs of Tron, Spyhunter sit down (never saw a lot of those) & the Star Wars cockpit....
And the old school Atari 4 player Football....
Takes me back to the good old days…..before life got complicated.....of course mabey that's why I started back into pinball/video game collecting...
