A wild little procedure that I did on middle Tekken 5 door before delivering it on location...
Got a T2 and Mortal Kombat 2 i want to get fully reconditioned.
Know anyone that does good work? I am on the west coast that would be better if possible.
Thanks,
Mike
Looking to purchase a Tapper machine, can anyone recommend reputable business or sellers they've used in the past?
Quoted from drewski28:Looking to purchase a Tapper machine, can anyone recommend reputable business or sellers they've used in the past?
That is a great game. One of the best ever made. That being said, original Tappers don't come up that often. I am afraid you're going to have to find one being offered in the wild and do a smell check to make sure it is not a scam. If you do find a dealer with one, the price is likely going to be crazy high. Reproductions are a different story and easily found. I would hold out for the real deal. Reproductions kinda suck in my opinion. Technically, it is really the only adult video game Midway ever did. Collectors don't like to part with them.
I've got pretty much everything. I built it during lock-down. VPX, Steam, Dolphin, MAME, NESticle, Mupen64Plus, Stella, DAPHNE, Snes9x, Yuzu, ePSXe, RPCS3, PCSX2, TeknoParrot & more!! Plays two player. Gun games with MAYFLASH, accelerometer for nudge with VPX, also Trackball for Golden tee etc., driving wheel & HOTAS for Star Wars battlePOD & MACH STORM. Display rotates for portrait (Pinball/VPX/VPW) Landscape for all arcade etc.

they made about 1000. popularity probably saved a lot of them, but that will also make it hard to find one. Especially if your after the full color ones or root beer tapper.
someone was making reproductions and selling them on ebay. I think they were like $3500 or $4500 about 2 years ago. Not sure what the going rate today is for one, but I would think close to that..
if you really have to have one, gene is selling one on his site for $6595. gene does a good job in his restorations. should be real hardware and a crt..

here is one on ebay looks decent(It looks to me like the side art is too light). but note its running on a lcd. Probably does not have a real pcb in it. So I would ask if its running on real hardware..

just to inform, a real root beer tapper pcb on ebay is listed for $1250.

The good news for Tapper owners is that Aaron Reid finished his FPGA implementation of Tapper for the Bitkit2 platform. That would be a great option for a reproduction cabinet.
On top of the restoration above my apple photo booth just took a dump (blue screen) so also looking for a tech to work on this. A hundred miles outside of the Bay but I am willing to pay.
Thanks,
Mike
paid

Very jealous of your space, I'm a huge Williams fan. Sadly I am a little constricted on space so decided on a Defender - Williams Multigame conversion.
I'm finally getting around to restoring my atari warlords cocktail. with the exception of a new cabinet (markrl), glass and cpo's (phoenix arcade) and metal work (takeman) from KLoV, everything else is original.
with regards to applying cpo decals, since these are so large and have multiple bends, what is the best way to do this without the possibility of issues?
I've restored 2 machines prior and while they came out really nice, applying the decals was the only step where I wish there was some forgiveness. (once you start to lay down the cpo, there is no turning back with that 3M adhesive.)

Shouldn't be too bad i would think as the bends are all on the one plane yeah? Doing something like the black number patches on the back cowling of Manx TT's is a complete PITA cause you are dealing with complex curves, bends top to bottom and left to right.

Use a hair dryer while applying over the bends to make the material more pliable, and go slow.
Quoted from j_m_:what is the best way to do this without the possibility of issues?
I start with lining everything up with margins and making marks. I then fold back only a portion of the backing and cut it off leaving the majority of other backing on until you reach that point. I usually have someone helping me hold the decal up with right tension while I use a plastic scrapper(use painters tape wrapped around edge) and scrape the decal down a little bit at a time making sure to get all the bubbles out. Once you get to the point where backing is still on-then cut off more-I usually go in thirds. Also it is easier if machine is on it's side horizontal vs standing up vertical.
if I recall, the major problem that I had was the decal wanting to peel back a bit when I was attempting to remove more of the backing and that caused the ink to separate from the underside of the textured surface, leaving a bit of a white/milky section under the topside of the cpo.

Sorry I did not see it was for cpo, I was thinking side art. For cpo I try and keep original on if possible and just go over old one depending on condition. Line up/start from backside and just wrap around-using a little heat around corners. So small-kinda have to take off entire backing. Funny thing- I was going to replace a Nintendo one last week that had cigarette burns in it. I started cleaning it up to apply the new one over it and it cleaned up really nice-almost like new including the cigarette burns with some vinyl cleaner and magic eraser. Now I have an extra one

I would never go over the old one. If it is bad enough to redo, the old one needs to come off. Sometimes the replacements aren't as thick as the originals. If your metal is recessed to accommodate bolts you may want to fill those spots in with bondo or epoxy. That way the replacement is nice and smooth.

thank you, I was looking at that rapid tac kit but was unsure. I've got about 6 cpo's in total to apply, so the kit is basically a no-brainer. what I've seen is that you spray the rapid tac onto both the control panel and the rear of the cpo (after removing the backer).
how much working time does the rapid tac give you to easily move the overlay around before the adhesive starts to take over?
Rapid tac is a great product. It allows you to reposition the CPO / decal while it is wet. That being said, it does not work well with stiff CPOs that need to be bent during installation. Any where with a bend is going to need dry adhesive to hold the shape. Each install has it's own challenges. I just used Rapid tac to install a Apron decal. Super easy. You just need to squeegee out the excess product and then let it dry for a couple days.
the warlords cpo is kind of stiff and the panel has two bends (one at approximately 80° and a second at approximately 120°)
my plan of attack is to score/cut back the backer so that the adhesive for top surface of the cpo is exposed and use the rapid tac to coax the cpo into place and let it dry. once dry, I can peel back the rest of the adhesive backer and roll the remainder of the cpo onto the panel dry.

Nice pick up with the Star Trek but also a nice pickup in regards to your Taco. That truck looks amazing and I have been searching for a nice older regular cab Taco for years now after I sold the couple of ones I owned. If you ever want to sell it-let me know. Looks like a tasty Taco

Pigskin - me and my buddies would drop buckets of quarters into that game!!! Outstanding to see one of them.

If its dedicated and a game you want, then I think its fair to good. If your buying it to flip it, I would say rethink it. Its kind of an obscure game. Yes there are universal collectors out there. but I think its a game you will be sitting on for a while to sell.
People are asking insane on ebay, but none has sold recently. good luck!

Thanks. I have seen these all over the place as far as price.
