Looks great! What did you do to get the ramps made that nicely?

First thing I played at Pinball Life yesterday. Very cool layout. Shot well. Thanks for sharing it!

You know, this pretty well sums up how frickin awesome this hobby is. You had to attend the PBL party in order to play this one of a kind game that turned out to be pretty great. That is so UNLIKELY you know? Good time to be around. Wish I could be there, but I am in spirit!!

    It actually gave me chills!

I've been called a hipster for saying my favourite classic CV theme is Battle Of The Holy rather than Vampire Killer. :p

    Quoted from Rarehero:

As someone who loves the Castlevania series EXCEPT Simon’s Quest - this is a version of Simon’s Quest I WOULD want to play! Congrats!

but Simon's Quest was the best one???

Left ramp is Iron Man. Right is Star Trek.

Thank you everyone that gave my game a try.
I had a good time talking to everyone and hanging with the homebrew crew.

Couldn't go to PBL party because of the tourney, but got to check this thing out Saturday night, absolutely loved everything about it! My favorite part was how the lights dimmed in the same way as Simon's Quest nighttime transition when the MB started up!

Layout seems great. Is there any animation to interact with switch calls other than the scoring?
    Promising.

    #62 2 years ago

This is awesome. Kind of have to say I'm disappointed that it won't have that classic intro voice line from SOTN though. Maybe sneak it in somewhere as an easter egg...like 1-in-100 tilts, you get Dracula going "WHAT IS A MAN? A miserable little pile of secrets!"

    #63 2 years ago

Damn that looks pretty fun man

    #64 2 years ago

Hey Justin! You did an amazing job on the layout and the pin played great. It felt like a production ready design. Nice mix of drop targets, scoop, loops and ramps. I also enjoy 3 flipper games-Very impressed- awesome meeting you at expo

I’ll get with Ken and send him some artwork ideas.

    #65 2 years ago

My dad and I got to play some games on it at Pinball Life on Thursday. Impressive. Had fun. Can't wait to see it with artwork!

    #66 2 years ago

This is so cool! This, along with the Vs. Castlevania Nintendo arcade cab (and maybe some horror themed pins like Bram Stoker's Dracula and Vampire) would be sweet all ligned up together. Would love to give this a try.

    #67 2 years ago

This was one of the games that I had to keep coming back to play! Such a great shooting game!

    #68 2 years ago

Coz, next time we meet at a show, we should hang out. It was cool that you got people to try my game. I appreciate that.
We will see what to do about the cabinet art soon.

Has to be. Probably already articulating a well thought out review.

    The Pros:
A cool layout with a difficult multi-ball start from the upper right hand flipper. Great use of Star trek and i-ron mang ramps. The sounds are true to the theme. The inline drop targets to the standup at the top right hand side of the pf that feed the ball back to the upper flipper are way sweet.

    The Cons:
Only one, so far. Project is deep in beta.

    The Takeaway:
An industry first! Laser etched woooden backglasses are the new thing that all the cool pinball kids want to play. Code is rough, expect more from this talented young creator soon!

Caucasian2Step needs to work on his aim...

I have been working on the game a little bit still. Trying to get some more software features in. I trying to make it to TPF with it.
In the meantime, here is a video of game play I made a while ago.

    #75 1 year ago

Still looking forward to the final product on this homebrew!!

I want to start showing my progress for making my game. I took some photos along the way.
I started with a bare cabinet. It war ironically a BSD cabinet. All the bits were transferred to a new cabinet. I had to buy everything to fill it back up.
I started with a blank playfield with an Italian bottom.

I put the ramps I wanted to use on first and worked around those. I chose these ramps because of the offset of the entrances. I also wanted them to return to the opposite flipper. Iron Man on the left and Star Trek on the right were used. I then used aluminum to make the ball guides.

There was going to be a captive ball in the back right corner and I wanted it to be like Nightmare on Elm Street mixed with Centaur. I didn't have the clearance for it to be effective. I took out the captive ball in the corner and went with the straight inline drops only. The inline drops are from Metallica. I changed the drop targets to black. I had to add a white sticker for the opto blocker on the target for it to work.

By this point (early 2018), it was a flipping whitewood.

I needed to draw my playfield at this point in Solidworks. I had a layout I was mostly happy with. It was time to take everything off. I scanned the playfield in bits and combined it all into a single image. I'm not an engineer and if I were to do it off of measurements, I don't think my holes would have lined up very well.

I drew it up with a few tweaks and had it cut at TheNoTrashCougar's house. It took a couple tries because I messed up the G-code. I had an insert cut on the outside of the line as opposed to the inside. This made it too large. Maybe you can spot it in the picture.

Inserts glued in and sanded. Time to put it all back together.

I made more tweaks and updated the drawing. Here are drawings for its current form. I originally was going to have the ball go around the right orbit from the launch. It seemed too finicky. I adjusted it to be an across the playfield launch. This also makes more opportunities for skill shots. I would ideally like this game to have a plunger. The cabinet has me locked into a button launch at the moment.

Another playfield cut. 1st try this time. Reassembled with custom boards I made for lamps. All in time for Expo.

Part of me wishes I logged the hours. I don't know if it would have made me more proud or depressed.
This is 2 years of work. I'm very happy how it turned out so far. A couple tweaks have been made since expo. Right now it mostly comes down to software.

Awesome work! This looks very fun. Love the layout and looks like it plays fast.

Thank you. I'm glad I took some pictures along the way. Usually I'm not much of a picture taker and live in the moment.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere - what software did you use to design the PF layout? The 3D rendering is rather slick.

    Excellent work man!

That would be Solidworks. Best on in my opinion.

Understand that feeling. It’s passion because if some knew the amount of hours dedicated to this kind of things, a lot of project would have never been started... and sometimes not easy to deal with other projects and family. A lot of unfinished project out there so we need to keep faith. The software is also a big deal. Good luck!
