Not small potatoes if you like them and they make you happy. If so you are up with the big taters.

    Thanks LTG

    Quoted from Frippertron:

Hey brother you got great games! I have no interest in new pinball myself. I like classic SS and EM play much better without even considering price. That is the beauty of this hobby, there are many different ways to enjoy it. Contrary to a lot of Pinside rumblings, the hobby isn't ONLY about NIB games.

    Much appreciated Flippertron

Houdini $9300.00 CDN ... First new in box and worth every penny!

TZ, about two years ago. Paid less than a NIB Stern pro at todays going rate. Soooooo worrth it, one of my “keepers” now...

    #56 1 year ago

None of mine I have what I actually forked over in cash form in them, but the most cash I ever handed for one was $7k for my nice original AFM

    #57 1 year ago

The most expensive pin I ever purchased was my original AC/DC Premium. $6500 + shipping. I've added probably $750 worth of mods to it. It was a gift from my wife for my birthday and my disability retirement back in 2013. It's bolted to the floor and never leaving. In comparison, the cheapest pin I ever bought was $600. It's a Bally Future Spa. I love it too and I got it cheap enough that I have no need to sell it.

A better question might be what's the most you've ever lost on a pin. If you buy a 12k pin, play it for a year and sell it for 12k, most people will be really happy about that. It's the 7k Congo after restoration that you sell for 5k that hurts.

The most I lost was $600 on a RFM.

    #59 1 year ago

Up until this past year it would of been $600. That includes Bally Xenon, 2 Strikes & Spares, 2 Paragon's, 2 Silverball Mania's, 2 Mata Hara's, 2 Lost World's, Vector, Fireball II, and Space Invaders. Williams Black Knight. Most of those were working with decent + BG's and PF's. Gottlieb EM's galore from High Hand to Atlantis. Broke down last year and bought fully working Xenon (850) & Playboy (1000). Yeah I'm cheap.

A magic girl, $30k AUD landed and a Wizard Blocks part of the Williams purchase

Great point - I think most break even or even make a slight profit, but unfortunately sometimes we lose money

    #62 1 year ago

ACDC LE for 11K... sold 6 months later for the same price...Missed so much I bought another premium with a ton of mods for 10K....No regrets.

    $400 Williams Aztec

Pins have gone to high in price in last ten yr bought an TZ & CV at $3500

Yeah. Well, even if someone "loses" 2K on a pin that's nothing compared to depreciation on a new vehicle. The average new vehicle price is around $35k and 5 years later it's worth < $20k...

    #67 1 year ago

Dat MMR, of course. Besides that and ST Vengeance my games have all been pretty cheap thrills or swaps.

    #68 1 year ago

I lost $2k on XMLE was hard to sell.

But think of Hot tub, nice TV or computer that can go to zero dollars over time, you need to drag them to the landfill.

I spent $5,000 on an Indiana Jones once.
And I thought it would be bring me happiness. But there was only a hollow feeling.
    I shoulda bought a car!

Really... I'm the opposite of you guys... I only drive my car cos I need to get to places... And while my car is really nice... I don't care about it... I rather have nicer pins... I drive a 2016 chevy malibu LT... Not the best car... Not the worst. They're dependable, and safe in crashes... And I've been in two major ones in my past Malibu's... Which is why I rebuy them... The accidents were not my fault... Sideswipped on the interstate... And then an idiot left turned in front of me claiming he had green arrow when it was a green light and I had the right away.
    I rather have pins!!!
And my most expensive one... Will be the Iron Maiden Prem... Haven't bought it yet, but I pre ordered it. And I can't wait for it to come in. Once that bad boy gets paid off, I'm going to buy me a machine on my wishlist. And also save up for Elvira 3.

    #70 1 year ago

I paid $12.5k for my HUO MM. No regrets because I got to enjoy it for over 2 years before my friends started receiving delivery of their MMR otherwise I would have gone this route too.

    #71 1 year ago

DILE and IMDNLE. $9k, completely crazy. I bought my first machine for $2k, a Roadshow, then a perfect TZ for $3k, and MM for $4k. But that was 15 years ago...

    #72 1 year ago

I think I paid $8600 for my Tron LE. Which really stung because I cancelled my pre-order for it when I saw the movie and was like “meh”. It would have been $5350 shipped with a shaker had I stuck with it NIB.

Here’s how I justified it tho - I bought Transformers LE for about $5k NIB & traded it for an AFM, before it shot up in value. A month or so later, I sold the AFM for $8200, and spent that on the Tron LE ....soooo, I just imagined I only had my Transformers money in on the Tron

My first game was BTTF in 2004 for $300. I’ve been pretty “thrifty” and gotten most of my collection for nice prices. Before I started buying new games, the highest I spent was $4000 for my CV...but most of my games were in the $1k zone or less.

    #75 1 year ago

My NIB DILE is my highest by a long shot!! Everything else has been half or less. I don't regret it though, it's become one of my favorite pins!

    #76 1 year ago

    All NIB: METLE $7000 / WozECLE $6500 / ACDC prem $6500 /GB prem $6500 / AMH $6000 / BBBr $4800

    Everything else around $800-$2000

    I voted $6-$8k

    #77 1 year ago

    B66LE,$9500.

    #78 1 year ago

I have yet to purchase one and soon will hopefully get one but I am will to pay up to $2000 as that's all I have budgeted right now, after my first I plan to budget more.

The most expensive game I have bought is Aerosmith LE.

Wait, wait, wait, RH. You cancelled your Tron LE order because the movie was meh, but you still bought a TFLE? Those movies are less than meh, way less.

BTW, I'm happy to see you're back. RobT too.

$12K+ shipping was the most spent.

Lost the most on Predator and never got anything for it and never will.

Recently bought a HUO Scared Stiff with a clear coated playfield for 7k.

The first pin I bought was the most expensive ... because then I needed more, and I haven't stopped buying them since!

I just bought my 100th pin that I've owned last week. I've never lost money on a pin, either break even or made money. Only one I ever lost on was the shipping on a game. I bought my first Banzai Run for $4k and paid $300 to have it shipped from Massachusetts. Ended up trading it for $2k in cash and a really nice Al's Garage Band which I subsequently sold for $2k. So, I lost the $300 in shipping. Not bad at all for a hobby. In fact, between buying, selling, trading, home repairs and the few games I have on location, I have nothing actually invested in my collection -- it's paid for itself.

WOZ original clearcoat cabinet, throw in a piece of 300 dollar invisiglass, 500 bucks for tax and another 175 for inbound shipping (Whatever the Hell that is ). I had to rent a van , buy a ton of gas and traveled 600 miles round trip. A year later , traded for a MMr. No Regerts

    Me neither

Thanks mang. Not that back tho. Just a few threads and mostly while on the crapper.

While the TF movies are garbage, I love the TF theme generally due to childhood nostalgia. I had no nostalgia for Tron.

I bought a route beater Baywatch with $3500 cash on the glass and a bag of dirt. It was nearly imamaculate!

    #90 1 year ago

Great stories guys!! Keep em coning! I like hearing the backstory to these pin purchases

    #91 1 year ago

I think mine is Scared Stiff. I worked in some trades and cab work along with some cash, but the value was around $8K CDN. It's the game my five-year-old son plays the most, and it's hilarious to hear him work some of the dialogue in his day-to-day vocabulary. ("MOTHER, PLEASE!" and "Thank you, boys!" are two of his favorites.)

All in, the most money I have into a pin is my TWDLE. It has the topper, mirrored art blades, lighted speakers, lighted flippers buttons, pinsound sub board, pinsound headphone jack, titan bands, backlit ramp, and a color dmd.
The clear coat on the game was pretty thin. I think it was just the way they were doing clear at Stern at the time. So I had the playfield professionally clear coated by Chris at HEP. I’m extremely happy with the job he did. The game looks amazing.

I think it's $2,500 for my The Shadow. Probably put another $300 in parts into it so, around $2,800.
