Hi all,

I just finished a complete tear down, touch up and rebuild/clear coat on my Wh2o and it is starting up and playing, however there are a couple of weird electrical things happening since its back together.....there is one light staying on under the boomerang bend insert, the rear VUK will sometimes fire when there is no ball in there for 2 or 3 times in a row, and once in a blue moon it will think your ball has drained while still in play....I dont have much experience with diagnosing the electrical things so any help (especially step by step directions) would be appreciated...

I have checked all connections etc and havent found any lose or mis-aligned connections anywhere....

Was it like this before you worked on it ? If not go over you work.

Connectors mixed up, loose wires, things like that.

It sounds like you have some light and switch lines crossed.

Ya...I'll take a closer look again...maybe I have a connector mis-labeled or something...

Check wire colors both sides.

OK....fixed one issue when I found a bad solder on a pop bumper that was causing the light to stay on, but I am still having trouble with the rear VUK firing randomly during gameplay. I have tested all the opto's in the VUK (3) and they are all testing fine.....I have also re-seated all the connections both under the playfield from the optos and in the back box.....any thoughts.....

Tell us more. How can a poor solder joint cause a lamp to stay ON?

Re: the VUK...I assume this isn't in ball search mode.
What does you unregulated 12V at TP1 measure?
...game in attract mode.
...DMM red lead on TP1
...black lead on cabinet side rail.
Does the VUK firing coincide with a lamp lighting?

check the cup at the bottom of the vuk that shoots the ball up. I can't remember exactly how it caused the issue, bit mine was broken off and it took several tries to pop the ball up, causing it to fire multiple times. Not sure if it sounds like your trouble, but ya never know

If the "cup" doesn't return to the normal position, it may be breaking the opto beam. Good point.

The solder on one of the pops that also connects the wire to a light at the other end had broken free from the pop...it lifted and was touching a light socket....not sure why but that light stayed on....actually found the problem trying to find out why my pop bumper light was off....

thanks, I will check the cup as well....it isn't causing problems when the ball is actually in the VUK, but elsewhere on the playfield is when the VUK will randomly fire several times....it seems to function fine when the ball is actually in there.

May be vibration related. You could reflow solder on the optics.

Issue solved...found another poor solder on the opto in the VUK....Thanks for the help everyone!!

Congrats...sometimes finding that last problem is quite invigorating, isn't it?

More so if you know you did it, but don't know what you did.

As I'm reading this and trying to learn more about fixing pins, what exactly is "bad" solder? Is it implied that the connection is no longer present for whatever it is that was being soldered? I ask as I hope that the little soldering I've done thus far does not end up in the "bad solder" category.

I think the translation is "failed solder joint".

Great. Thanks for the info.

Yes, failed solder joint...I pulled the VUK to give it all a closer inspection, and as I removed it, a wire that had appeared solidly attached pulled free from the opto board....
