The angle the jaw servo is expected to operate at certainly seems like something that is a weakness.

Quoted from knockerlover:Which boards do you want pictures of? I’m not sure which one does ball detecting if any.
I think he's talking about the inductive switches used for the PF switches.
Quoted from Otaku:Can somebody give me a short summary of what this is all about? I missed the ENTIRE thing.
Also, are these games just super prone to breaking and going extinct? Struggling to think why multiple groups of people are restoring 4 games at once each. What's the benefit to doing more than 1? Preservation? Or you need to piece them together to use parts - like 1 good one for every two?
I left when these games were just coming out so this is all super confusing. I snooped around Pinside and got the general idea but there's no big announcement or anything so it's been hard to figure out.

Alien thread here...
Do some of your own homework.
The short summary for this thread as is stated in the opening post
"This thread is first and foremost, a running documentation of all of the technical challenges, discussion, ideas, fixes, part sources, and anything that may help to keep this game going for all to enjoy for as long as possible, as discovered through our process of fixing these games in our posession"
Quoted from Ballypinball:The cliffys need to be longer
The spot outside the cliffs is more like a tear... not ball wear. The finish was flaking from the edge wear. Don’t let the visual fool you...
Quoted from daudioguy:TBH, the only feature which has had problems is the servo that moves the jaw. This bit of puppetry is cosmetic but very cool when working. I need to switch to a better servo (the $7 dollar one with metal gears recommended by Helmut, instead of the $5 dollar one) to get mine 'jawing' again. Left in the open position the Xeno still catches and swallows the ball and game play is not affected.
What you see from knockerlover 's posts above though is... it's not just the servo that is different. The brackets and block all changed as well.
The game does look clean in a lot of ways, but there are plenty of 'questionable' mechanical or electrical design choices too. The proof will be in their longevity or not. The jaw servo setup to me looks like an example of cheeze...
Quoted from SunKing:If this works, can you please share the link to the gear you purchased?
While I had mine apart, I turned it sideways and dripped some superglue on the shaft/gear. It's worked 100% since then, but I'd love to have a reliable backup.

Quoted from jonesjb:To the OP, it's been about 3 months since the acquisition. How are the three Alien pins holding up?
They’ve been holding up just fine. No new issues I know of... just slowly making progress on building up the parts and upgrades to bring the early games up to spec. knockerlover has had some stuff outside of pinball that has taken priority over the last few months. The flood of new contributors has been awesome bringing some of the missing pieces to life.
We just setup another alien LE last night. I think that is my...5th alien setup... everyone has worked out of the box. This alien needed a flipper adjustment.. but beyond that... we were rocking.
Quoted from MK6PIN:Ha... ye of little faith..
Everything running perfectly EXCEPT my tongue is no longer magnetized (won't grab the ball)....Good grief....Ideas?[quoted image][quoted image]
Tongue is a permanet magnet. The rubber boot can hinder its ability to contact the ball well. Play with the rubber tip to get more magnet exposed
