Hey I know this has nothing to do with pinball, but I wanted to let anyone who is thinking about going there for a vacation, but was worried about the volcano and wasn't sure whether to go or not...I say GO!!

I stayed down in Captain Cook, which is south of Kona, in my vacation rental and had a killer time. Since the volcano has stopped flowing lava and there has been a couple of hurricanes blow by, it has blown all the bad air, or VOG as they call it, away from the island. The views were amazing and the sky was more clear than I have ever seen it.

We even went over to the other side of the island, Hilo, where is was supposed to be all flooded, at least that is what the fake news said, and everything was fine. You could not tell anything had happened. Even when up to the telescope on Mauna Kea 13700 ft elevation and checked that out too. Pretty cool.

So if you are thinking about going there, Go!! You'll have a great time I know we did.

Yea it took us about 16 hrs from Iowa to get there and almost 21 to get back. Lots of time lost due to lay overs coming back.

Unfortunately all the bad doom and gloom news coverage really hurt the local economy. Even the local Honolulu stations were over dramatizing everything.

But things are coming back and hopefully when the word gets out, more folks will what to go.

    Quoted from jhanley:

Kona it was crowded as hell

Was there a cruise ship there when you were there? That can really make it very busy on that end of Alli Dr. It can get hot and humidity in July and August especially if you stay close to the coast. Our house is at 1000 ft elevation so it is not too bad year round.

It never seems to bother me at all either. I guess some people have a hard time with it, but it's all gone now which is good.
