My CFTBL holo was not lighting up much at all--all I got was a bluish blob. Not so spiffy. So, I tried one of the halogen light upgrades (I got it from Pinbits, but you may find it somewhere else). Super easy install, you just follow the directions: http://www.iobium.com/creature_lamp_upgrade_kit.htm
I did find it easier to drill the two pilot holes by removing the light box--just two screws hold it on. I re-installed the light box, attached the light assembly, replaced the bulb. No sweat.
I was surprised at how dirty the actual hologram was. That couldn't help, so I cleaned it with Plexus plastic polish. I'm sure Novus 1 would do the same. It really brightened it up. I also cleaned the mirror, and blew all the dust out of the lamp tunnel box. The other surprising thing was how dirty the underside of the clear plastic lagoon cover was--also cleaned with Plexus. One last surprise, the light bulb for the hologram was a #1156--an old Chevy tail light bulb! Yikes!! After putting it all back together, I now have a visible blue Creature--although he only has one hand/claw/paw. Oh well, at least I can now see he only has one hand...

How has this been holding up for you?

Not bad, it was a good investment. Creature is still blue, but at least I can see it. I think this light would really make a greenish creature pop.

They sell a superbrite green LED that replaces the bulb, I'd bet that'll add more green to the hologram.

I just ordered the superbrite Green LED from Cointaker and it should be here any day....looking foward to seeing if there is a difference. My Creature is still green with a little blue with the standard light...

Let us know how it works burningman when you get it!

#7 8 years ago

Will do...hope to have it in todays mail. You guys find that you have to remove the playfield in order to get to that light? I was able to just remove the light by sliding my fingers in between the housing and the fixture, but I don't think its going to be so easy installing it.

BTW...Next weekend I am doing a ton of stuff to the Creature...new curly ramp, bowl, finish up reed switch install, fix a back box connector, pop bumper light mod, Jeff's speaker box mod, some LED's, snack bar target stickers, new plastics/protectors...and a ton more...

Salut Burningman,

Sounds like my program for the CFTBL .
I'm currently waiting for the deluxe speaker panel to finish Jeff's mod.
The illuminated backplex for the creature is a nice mod as well.

I would be curious as well, if the green LED will change something.

I'll put back in the old light before installing the new and take a picture of the before and after...

yea, come on May 17th...wife will be out of town..starting at 5pm next Friday and going the distance. Will start a new thead of my creature weekend...lol

no need to remove playfield. I just pulled it to the most forward position and I could easily reach back there from the side of the game.

yep.

worse case scenario:
with a 1/4" nut driver and a phillips screwdriver, you can remove the bulb fixture from the light tunnel base to more easily access and replace the bulb

#12 8 years ago

thumbs up JM...I thought I might be able to remove the fixture without having to try to slide my hand in that tunnel...lol

dang...the UPS Man came and brought my topper for the JD....no LED's yet, but I think they were sent to the house...

thumbs up? I don't see a 'thumbs up' +1 in reply

I would love to come out to help you but I have a camping trip that weekend with my Boys. I do want to see how your new LED lamp works out...

hey Jester...I was thinking about you this week...I still want you to come by as well...maybe swing by next week on your way home from work before I go tear assin' into it?

#17 8 years ago

In addition to green superbright, you may want to try yellow. As in Yellow + Blue = Green.

Hey Guys...sorry about the highjack earlier...but got my LED in the mail today and just took some pics...

First of all, the light that came out of the housing was big...like an automotive light...the first pic is before...and the second is after putting in the Cointaker LED...the creature is still very clear, however in the second picture its blured from me taking the picture...you can tell, definitely more green.
