My wife and I will be having our first child in October! We are pretty excited, it's taken awhile for this to happen. Can't wait to raise a little pinhead!

Awesome. I'm happy for you. Let me give you some advice from a 50 year old man. NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR WIFE AND THAT CHILD. I spent years chasing pinballs, corals for a aquarium, cars and sticking a needle in my ass trying to be the biggest person in the gym. I didn't realize what was really important till I didn't have the money to buy all that stuff. Now, when my son is 1 year away from going to college I literally cry when I think how much I will miss my son and my best friend. Savor every moment. Take every chance to enjoy that child . Make memories. Hug it, love it, teach it what is important. It will be gone before you know it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this! I appreciate all advice! We truly can't wait! For whatever reason it's taken us quite some time for this to happen. I'm in my mid 30s now and am not one to act like I know everything. It's a whole new chapter in life for us.

    #14 7 years ago

Congrats on the soon to come pinhead!

Congratulations!!!!! Best part of life hands down....... then Pinball!!!!

    #20 7 years ago

Congratulations! Kids are exhausting and take up all of your time but they are worth it. Be sure to update us all once you are a Father! Exciting times.

    #21 7 years ago

    Congratulations!

    #22 7 years ago

Congratulations! I have two and will never forget the time I've spent with them. My best guess is there is 75% of their personality/philosophy set from the start and you can mold the other 25%. I remember my neighbor telling me how good their son was and ours was a little hellion. Then they had their second and he was their little hellion, our second was as calm and quite as they come. Kids are great. Just don't tell your wife you want another one 24 hours after the first. The large bump on my head is proof of that! Have fun, teach them well and be aware my daughter has enjoyed doing more with me than my son ever will. Mama's boy, daddy's girl...

    #23 7 years ago

Congratulations you can never start them too early!

    #24 7 years ago

    Congrats & Good advice here.
BTW, at first I thought your Whirlwind may be showing just a little bit...

    #25 7 years ago

Congrats! Your life will change in so many ways. All for the better. My kids are the most delightful and wonderful part of my life. As life goes on and your kids grow, you know your getting old when they start beating your high scores on the pins and video games.

    #26 7 years ago

Congrats! We just had our first 11 years ago. And it feels like 5 minutes ago. Treasure every moment.

    #27 7 years ago

Congrats to the both of you. You two will still be young when he/she goes off to collage.

    #28 7 years ago

I have a 10 month old and it's super fucking hard work and I don't have a ton of time to do anything "Fun" or anything "I want to" or "Fix my machines" or "Do that playfield swap" or "Just relax" or well whatever, you get the point.

Yeah...Kids! You have them and then like....you have them and they're there. So enjoy man, they're cute as shit...IF you have a girl. Well luckily evolution has made your offspring appealing to you; a fine move. My baby is the only one I can stomach, but I wasn't sure I'd take to her so that's well.

    #29 7 years ago

Congrats to the OP! Kids are awesome... I have a soon to be 15 yr old and 13 yr old... love'm to death. They are so much fun. BUT .... but... they want nothing to do with pinball.

Oh well.. maybe their future husbands will . )

    Rest up!

    #30 7 years ago

Children are amazing. I have three currently 16-22. They have enriched my life in untold ways.

Cherish the time you have with them because it goes by SO FREAKING FAST! I can picture the first time I put my oldest in the bassinet for the first time from the hospital. It was yesterday... I swear!

Congratulations! My absolute best wishes to your whole family.

    #31 7 years ago

Oh yeah and the sex thing is actually real....so get it in now.
And all the fun stuff with your buddies out on the town...get that over with.

    Hmmm what else?

    Is my baby dying?
Remember this saying; "My baby is not dying....My baby is not dying." That'll come in handy the first 3 months which is LITERALLY the scariest time of your life. Babies like to sneeze, like 30 times a day, it does NOT mean they are sick or dying. in fact look at this ->"Newborns sneeze a lot, but not because they're cold or sick."<- That's the first thing that comes up on the google search you'll look up before getting dressed to go to the hospital because...well read above. That's just one of a thousand things you'll be scared of

    Diapers
Never bothered me, nothing wrong there.

    Keep that baby moving
You're close to Scorpio season in October but that baby likes to get around. Some of the funnest times are in the stroller. Most normal ones can hold 2-4 beers so your good there even without a cooler. Enjoy the first 6 months in the stroller making faces at them...no one told me after that you turn them around and don't get to look at them...man that's a bummer.

    #32 7 years ago

Oh, don't stock up on diapers! I bought bulk and my daughter was allergic to them! Don't buy bulk until you know they're ok, or anything else!

    #33 7 years ago

    The Birth
I almost couldn't keep a straight face when I remembered this little diddy I mean how could I forget? Oh yes PTSD.
I'm just going to type this but if there are some squeamish folk they might want to get out now.
    Are you sure? OK.
If she ends up getting a C-Section this is what happens.
    Sure...?
They whisk you into the room 20 minutes after you last saw your wife whom you thought might be dying...LETS DO THIS!
They put a shield in front of your wife's chest so she can't see anything. They cut a 4-9" line in your wifes gut, this is actually happening, you look at her because you just saw her get murdered but she's still alive and looking at you for support.
**Side Note - Human flesh cuts as easy as any animals but bleeds a bit more. **
Remember how people only have ->A<- C-Section Scar? Yeah so um we're going to need to...(they are not telling you this you just figure it out as it goes) ....cut 1 straight line of flesh and then I'm going to rip open your stomach like a hockey bag.
This is the funniest part to people until I tell them I can literally hear the skin, muscle, & fat rip away from her body.
OK what's next? Remove some entrails and vital organs and plop them done next to her gaping cavity. We're in a hospital right cause this is like not making sense?
My Wife's liver hit the gurney with around 1 lbs of blood...look I don't know really guys, her liver,? her Kidney,? Lungs?, Heart? fuck i saw at least 9' of entrails.....but I digress.

    #34 7 years ago

    Well shit, go on law!
You can't stop now...How did it end up...tell the man what he needs to know!!

    #35 7 years ago

You're getting scared because you don't hear any baby audio the entire time....even after a grown person puts 2 hands completely inside your wife's chest cavity and ripped a human being out of it; But here it is, it's your baby. Your wife whom's actually done all the work this last year is looking at you for answers...you saw a child, this shit is real and it's happening!!!! Then you look down again at her and there are--->Guys Guy look this up on youtube I am not making this up there are blood and organs everywhere <-- and your wife KEEPS LOOKING AT YOU FOR SUPPORT. Nawww......I don't see your Liver at all honey.
*You fucking liar....you DID SEE IT*

Luckily the rest is what they say. The crying and all that shit then they slap that thing in your arms....it's WAY MORE powerful than you can ever imagine. You, as we all hope have a healthy little baby; the cute shit I'm getting teary eyed remembering it! My precious little baby Keaton in her mother's arm Oh wait they are still cleaning up her organs....there is nothing but entrails and blood all over my beautiful new baby. It LITERALLY looked like animal meat that you can eat

    #36 7 years ago

    So touching.

    #37 7 years ago

Way cool, man! Congrats! I'm still on the fence about kids, but the more time that ticks away on the old Doomsday Clock, the more I want one of those little turds.

    #38 7 years ago

    Congrats!

    #39 7 years ago

My first one will be in high school next year. Goes way too fast. Enjoy the ride and spend LOTS of time with them!

    #40 7 years ago

I second the c-section thing being intense. The thing that really cracked me up about it was the doctor was this little woman and she is on top of my wife with this meat hook looking thing stretching the incision to get the baby thru and is just tugging like crazy at this hook. My wife looks up at me, as high as a kite, and is like I feel a little pressure, what're they doing down there. Nothing hun, they're just working on getting our son out. I mean she literally was up on the table tugging on that meat hook thing. We laugh about it now.

    #41 7 years ago

Congrats, enjoy the ride, and what a ride it is. You'll need to check out this sight from now on.

Having and raising a child of your own is the best thing you will ever do. It gives your life true meaning. It changes your perspective on life. Everything else you will ever do will pale in comparison. Enjoy and cherish every moment. The journey has just begun. Good luck.

    #43 7 years ago

Congratulations. Your life will never be the same. My oldest is 19 now and just started working his first job. I will never forget changing his diaper for the first time in the hospital neither will my wife or the nurse that day back in 1998.
I put on latex gloves and a surgical mask. Seemed practical to me because they were on hand I was used to putting on a pair of gloves and respirator to protect myself from paint and fumes. Apparently it was overkill for a diaper full of shit in their eyes and I still hear about it today.

Sleep is the cousin of death, it's overrated, remember that on those long nights/ early mornings

    #46 7 years ago

    Awesome,

Congrats to you and your wife, also the new grandparents. Pic is me and my grandson, getting in from snowshoeing in the UP.

    #47 7 years ago

Get started planning the second one as soon as the 1st is born.....the reason? Well let's just say you will someday figure out how much you screwed up the 1st one because you didn't know what you were doing. The 2nd and 3rd ones are much less damaged.....lol Those are the ones you will need to count on to support you in your old age!

    #48 7 years ago
    Quoted from zr11990:

NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR WIFE AND THAT CHILD.

I have loved reading how many people put kids and family first. It is universal but so true. I love this quote above. You will respect and love your wife more than ever when she goes through this process. As a Father of four with one married, two in college, one in HS and one in MS, CHERISH YOUR WIFE every day and your kids will also learn to cherish, love and respect women and motherhood. All the greatest joys and legacy we leave in life are due to family, no worldy object can take its place!

    #49 7 years ago

Congrats dude, my wife and I are also new parents and what an amazing journey it has been so far (and he is only 6 months). We are in our early 40s, late to the game but love it none the less!

    #50 7 years ago

After TheLaw 's posts, I am SOLD! I totally want a litter of my own. :p

**fyi, the "kids are expensive" statement is just a myth. They have nothing on pinball.
