What's the verdict on the moving helicopter blades? Does it add much to the game/rules? Do you think it's a worthwhile addition over the Pro?

#851 4 years ago
Quoted from hawkmoon77:

I like the visuals, but the sound effects add a lot too. I'm not sure if the pros have the sound effects or not.
In my mind, it is the difference between a decoration and interactive element.

Thanks! I'm planning to buy a JP once the dust settles on the QC issues and trying to figure out whether Id be happy with a Pro vs. a Premium.

Are there any modes or scoring opportunities tied to the helicopter or is it primarily an audio/visual type toy?

#854 4 years ago
Quoted from hawkmoon77:

For me, the difference between the pro and premium is the T-REX. It is phenomenal. It watches the ball, it coordinates its movements with the display and sound effects. It picks up the ball and releases it in different ways. It moves with the story in certain modes (like escape the t-rex mode). I've played both versions and both are fun. But geez, the implementation of the T-rex is above and beyond.

Thanks. That's great to hear! The T-Rex has got to be one of the best toys Stern has ever done. I'm definitely leaning towards the Premium because of that, and I also like that art package the best. If the mech holds up well and the clearcoat issues dissapate over the next couple months I'll likely go that route.

Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

If you're at Expo, what are your thoughts on JP2 Premium in the flesh? Great art? Middling art? What say you?

I've been playing a Pro on route the past few months and played about 7-8 games on the Premium at Expo on Thursday. I do think the cab art on the Premium is the best of the 3 models whereas the LE has the best backglass art. Pro is the worst all around for art. I like the look of the game.

As far as gameplay I don't really notice much difference. Raptor pit is a little better on the Premium but I did have a couple balls get hung up on the motorized bank.- likely an adjustment issue. Also had a few rejections on the Trex which is likely the same. Trex is cool but it does slow the game down a little bit. I'm still leaning Premium mostly due to the art but I think I'd be perfectly happy with the Pro too. If the Pro had the Premium art I'd probably lean that way.

#1534 4 years ago
Quoted from jdroc:

Doesn't the t-rex only grab the ball when the pro would stop it anyway with the up post on the inlane? Haven't played LE, only pro, so just curious...thought Keith said it didn't change the flow at all in an earlier post

That could be the case. It just seems like a longer time when the Trex moves back and forth a bunch before finally putting the ball on the ramp. I'd have to time it to be sure though. I do hope they make that left inlane hold post cancellable in future code.

Quoted from yancy:

At this point I would strongly recommend anyone without significant pinball experience or just general mechanical aptitude to avoid buying premiums/LEs. Most of the extras on these games require adjustments, tweaks, or flat-out homebrew re-engineering.
I'm not saying the extras aren't cool or worth it. I mean, I ordered a JP2 premium. But I can't think of a single pro that is more of a maintenance headache than its high-dollar counterparts.

Even if you do have mechanical aptitude it's still nice to buy a game and not have to constantly tweak and adjust features to get them to work 100%. I was convinced on a JP2 Premium but then I played it a bunch at Expo and now I'm leaning toward's a Pro. Had a couple ball hang-ups on the up down bank and some TRex rejects. Plus having to worry about the long term reliability of that mech. Sometimes it's nice just to be able to play the game and not worry about that stuff. The gameplay really didn't seem that much different from the Pro either. I have no regrets going with a Pro on KME's other game. Other than change out the shooter spring I don't think I've ever had to make another adjustment or even take the glass off

Quoted from MrMikeman:

My LE is sitting at my distro waiting for me to go get it. It's about 150 miles away and already have a road trip planned in 11 days but man... I want it NOW!! (My first NIB too).... Will post my LE number once I get it..

Just leave now! You'll have the game home within about 5 hours.

Quoted from crwjumper:

Let's hope that the Corona Virus doesn't spread by touch . . .
My wife orders stuff from China frequently. But she is waiting a while during this scare, just in case.

Unless you have something express shipped from China you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Viruses don't live that long outside of the body. typically 1 to at most 7 days.

#4461 4 years ago
Quoted from 85vett:

Just got the word. My JP is getting pushed till April. This game must be selling like hotcakes! Happy for Stern but bummed that after waiting a tad over a month already I've still got most likely 3 more to go

I was told the same thing (April) for my Premium ordered right before Christmas. It's tough waiting but I know it will be worth it!

#4466 4 years ago
Quoted from 85vett:

If I find a local one that pops up before the game is shipped I'll probably do that. I'm buying through Stern rewards so the amount I'm paying for NIB is several hundred less than what people want for their used stock games though so I'm not expecting any luck there.

Mine is Stern rewards as well. I'm fine with waiting it out. I also ordered a R&M the same week and I think I may actually get that one sooner as I'm in the first 90 games. Just need to make it through the Winter and get to April!

#4468 4 years ago
Quoted from snaroff:

Not aware of "Stern rewards"...what is it?

It's a program for tournament players through IFPA:

Quoted from timlah79:

I was really hoping for some kind of video mode before or once they hit the 1.xx mark. I assume this means there will never be one? Assuming so b/c as I'm told most of the time once a game hits 1.xx that means it's not much more than bug fixes and other non-new gameplay changes from there. Curious if anyone has some insight on this notion. I could be misinformed.

That's accurate. On the LoserKid podcast today Keith said that all the modes are now in the game. I'm glad we'll likely never see a video mode from him.

Quoted from Utesichiban:

So was Stern able to complete any of the Premium orders before having to shut down their line last week or is there still a back log?

Last week I was told that the plan was to fill all the backlogged Premium orders over the next two weeks but then they shut down the factory the next day so I guess we'll have to wait.

#4867 4 years ago
Quoted from 85vett:

My understanding is that those that ordered through distributors most likely got there's as they were filling those orders first and that the main backlogged was Stern Rewards games. I'm sure there are still some that bought through a distributor that may have missed out though. I bought mine through rewards Jan 1. Was supposed to be Feb at first, then pushed to April. I'm guessing some time in the summer now

I feel your pain... I've had my order since Dec 17th. I finally received word from IFPA that our games were supposed to ship out within 2 weeks, but then Stern shut down the factory like a day or two after that. Hopefully we'll get them within a couple weeks of when they re-open? Probably be a couple of months though if I had to guess.

Quoted from gblack:

Just got mine today and mid way through setup. Unfortunately someone forgot to put a build date on the cabinet. I’ll email stern to see if they can look it up by serial.
[quoted image]

Was your game shipped directly from the Distributor or drop-shipped from Stern? It seems that some games are still trickling out of the factory (another Pinsider has a JP Premium with a 4/15/20 build date which was a few weeks after they shut down). Maybe you have one of these rarities?

#5317 3 years ago
Quoted from gblack:

Update from Stern is my final inspection was 4/20/2020. They sent me a screenshot of the card. This also supports the partial covered date on the pf of ?? 04 2020. The ?? being halfway covered by the ball kicker.

If it was inspected on 420 that may explain the missing sticker

It’s going to be hard to find a LE as they are sold out so you will have to find one used. Premiums are backordered till August.

Best bet is just to order a NIB Premium and wait a couple months. The differences are only cosmetic and most people I know prefer the art package on the Premium. You could also look for a used Premiun but prices right aren't great on those due to short supply.

Quoted from Kvothe:

Hmmm. Wonder if there’s going to be another code update soon because of this topper? Or, if somehow it’s built into the topper somehow? If it’s built into the topper maybe it’s not much of an extra mode. Hope that’s the case. Or, maybe it’s already built into the current code? I guess we’ll fine out once these toppers start shipping.

In the Flippin out video the new mode already appeared to be baked in to the existing code.

#5418 3 years ago
Quoted from 85vett:

Just received notice my Premium has officially shipped. Ordered first of Jan so it's been a long wait. Hoping it wont take to much time to dial in once it gets here.

I'm in the same IFPA batch as you and just got my notice as well! Its been a long 6 months but I know it will be worth the wait!

#5448 3 years ago
Quoted from seenev:

I've been out of the loop for a while. Did they fix the clear coat issues? If I bought a JP now could I trust that it won't have pf issues?

I just got a NIB Premium (Mfr date 6/05) and the clearcoat looks great! Inserts look good, no pooling, no wood grain, etc. The clearcoat is a bit thinner than other games but I'm very happy with the quality so far. That's not a guarantee that yours would be ok, but a good reference point in making your decision.

#5479 3 years ago
Quoted from Utesichiban:

I thought about that but what is the capacitor for? Isn’t it supposed to prevent something from frying?

Its to prevent system reboots due to the shaker drawing too much power. It helps level out the current. This isn't a problem in most games but my old Maiden Pro used to have random reboots before adding the capacitor.

#5513 3 years ago
Quoted from ABE_FLIPS:

wait... your inserts do not stand up a little bit, can you feel the inserts and artwork through the clear coat?
my PF looks bad now after 1500 games- cratering. they have to figure this out for a 8k+ game.
my DP pro still looks nice, not nearly as bad.

Here's a few pics of mine, made 06/05/20. Clear is thin, but I'm happy with the quality so far.

#5516 3 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

Can you feel any ridges where the insert meets the wood? That would indicate that the clear is very thin, and will lead to wear in the future.

Very slight. Reminds me of the clear on most 90s WPC and Sterns up to around 2010. I'm not concerned at all about it wearing, especially in home use. It doesn't seem like Stern started laying the clear on thick until around X-Men.

Quoted from Apex:

Has anyone heard when the next batch of Premiums are going out? I ordered one through the Stern's rewards program, but seems like I just missed out on the last run. I assume it won't be until after TMNT Premiums but hoping for a hidden stash from the wearhouse!

Did you get an email from Josh that said which batch you were in? There's supposed to be 10 IFPA games in the July batch and the rest in August was the last update I heard. I was in the June batch but I ordered way back in Dec. The game is worth the wait!

Welcome to the club! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and strategies once you get some time in. Hopefully someone here can help you get your T-Rex chomping like a champ! Luckily mine was good out of the box.

Quoted from Markharris2000:

Must: Shaker motor ($125), shooter lane protector ($25), Tim's Software update (free)
There are a ton of 'Nice to Have" other mods like those listed in the previous note, but the MUST list is above. Shaker and SDCard are all about the experience, and the protector will protect your playfield in the most likely area that will be damaged in a few dozen games.

These would be my top 3 mods along with an external Polk sub and $10 Papo Pteranodon. External volume control/headphone jack is also nice to have on games when you have noisy kids or need to keep the noise down in your gameroom.

#6323 3 years ago
Quoted from Markharris2000:

I had to buy an 8-inch PH1 screwdriver from amazon for this one screw! It was a $7 tool for a one-time use.... but worked fine!

I used a ratcheting right angle screwdriver. These come in handy for hard to reach places.

#6333 3 years ago
Quoted from Red_Devils:

I have one of these but there isn't enough clearance between the bit and the side of the ratchet to turn the screw it hits the side of the ramp. Just my experience

Now that you mention that I may have used a small extension on the mini ratchet to get around that.
