Hey everyone, not sure I introduced myself but I acquired a JP prem a little over 2 months ago and just getting around to posting it on here. Been modding it ever since and can't get enough of it! Here is what I have so far:

Green superbands
Mezel mod trees
The art of pinball signs
3d printed flipper toppers and rails
pterodactyl mod
green sleeve posts
3d amber blinkers for raptor cage
lockdown bar plaque
barbasol mod (not pictured, waiting on replacement)

I've got more on the way, I just can't get enough on modding it, haha

Quoted from zr11990:

Where did you get the trees?

mezelmods.com, I got the tree pack with the green sleeves mod and the fan trees. I didn't end up using all the trees either.

I just noticed a weird issue on mine tonight, the raptor fence seems to be going lower than it used to causing a ball to get stuck.

Is there an adjustment like the bias for the t-rex? If so, where is it at?

#8559 2 years ago
Quoted from Manny65:

It's a manual adjustment - there are 1 or 2 screws that set the height of the gate when lowered, so you adjust it such that the top of the gate is level with the PF. It's a similar adjustment to the up-posts (in the top orbit, raptor pen, control room and left return lane).

I'm assuming that's on the bottom of the gate under the playfield?

Has anyone had any issues swapping between SD cards with Movie code and new connected code for achievements?

None, I've done this with the latest code and the older code. I just swap back and forth if I want to

Just a word of caution for those wanting the movie code still with code ver. 1.07

IIRC the original movie code was on ver. 1.03 (no stern connect) then later there was a request to have it compatible with stern connect when ver. 1.05 came out. There isn't a newer version past that from what I know.

I have seen both of these versions floating out there but be aware that your the stern node board may or may not be compatible with older code since the node board part change. I have read others trying to revert back to older code with the new node boards and bricked them.

If you are going to use the movie code and your JP came with 1.07 (2022 or new build), the node boards are likely going to be the newer type that isn't compatible with older code. There was a service bulletin about this in the link below.

https://sternpinball.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Stern-NodeBoardUpdate.pdf

In summary, If you're going to use the older movie code, check your node board you have first before making your pin a 9k paperweight.

Quoted from etien:

My pin came with 1.07 in 2022 and I installed the movies / 1.05 with no problems, not sure I understand this post

You are one of the lucky people that have old node board type then, then it doesnt' apply to you. The issue is that sometime after they changed to the newer node type, the firmware completely changed too.

There are a few pages floating around about people trying to go back to an old version of code with other pins besides JP that have completely bricked their machine.

Quoted from JMCFAN:

1.05? Thought 1.03 was the last rev?

There's a 1.05 available, message the guy that made it I'm sure he'll share it to ya.

Quoted from Markharris2000:

There really is a brick issue but it has nothing to do with using the movie code versus the factory code. If you look at the node boards, the 'universal' boards are green in color. All spike2 machines up to covid timeframe used them. Those use a single chip that has been used for years and is supported by all versions of their microcode, old or new. (microcode versions are things like .47, .58, .72, etc and declared in the release notes) Any game code you have will work with any JP with GREEN node boards. (Game code versions INCLUDE microcode versions in the same image). During mid-COVID days, they had to redesign the node boards to eliminate that hard-to-find chip, and went with 7-8 discrete chips instead of the one chip design. (You can visually see one chip became eight smaller chips on the board, right above the TO220 driver transistors. Apparently those smaller chips were easy to find during the supply chain shortages. BUT by using that redesigned board, the microcode had to be updated. They changed to boards to BLUE to visual help operators spot the difference and the part number changed as well.
Net-Net: If you have BLUE node boards in ANY recent build Stern machine, you are limited to their latest gamecodes, beginning with the version that it shipped with to be safe. DO NOT TRY TO LOAD EARLIER CODE or there is a reasonable chance that the new board will try and succeed to update itself with old microcode, and once microcode is updated permanently break the communication line in the process, making it impossible to even fix the board with new gamecode since there is no way to get it into the node board which is no longer listening to the RS485 communication line.

Thanks for details, this is exactly what I was trying to explain. The movie code really is just a modified stock gamecode w/ different sounds and images from pinball browser. When someone is trying to flash their JP to any older code version than what it came from in 2022 with the new node boards, that causes the bricking issue if they aren't watching for it.

Anyway, I hope this finds people at caution I'm trying to use the "movie code".

Quoted from dts:

The part of this that is confusing is the Stern bulletin says they are going from the blue (chip shortage boards) to green, so is there a return to the universal board again in 2023 that would work with the custom code?

What part is confusing? The bulletin says they moved over to a differnet board type, why would they move back to a legacy model when it's superseeded by a replacement?

Likely the change is due to chip manufacturing issues during covid and chips that are no longer made and/or this new chip type is cheaper than the older one.
