thanks guys for the topper info. I will check my box but don't think there is an adaptor.

Here is updated custom music code for .96. I added back the main theme from JP DE to see if it would fit. I can post a version without this change as well. Heading to dinner so wanted to post this for now

Did you get an adapter?

Yes you need an adaptor

Mine might be missing it. I'm good

Quoted from timlah79:

Hi all. Am I losing my mind or is the JPLE manual's picture wrong for how the spring is assembeled on the auto-plunger/slingshot assembly? The manual shows the end of spring being 1/2 way inserted inside the coil + around the plastic coil sleeve. Mine's fat end sits above the coil mechanism currently. Just wanted to make sure I was looking at this correctly while installing a new arm.[quoted image]

I'm guessing this is just drawn incorrectly but am still looking for input from the forum. This is all in reference to my ongoing effort to fix my auto-plunger not getting the ball up and around the right halfpipe. It's at a 1/10 to 3/20 failure to rate and often fails 2-3 times in a row. The only thing I've been able to determine via slow motion video is that when it fails, it's not a velocity problem. It's that the ball is not being launched in a straight direction. Something is causing the kicker arm and the link assembly to shift/pivot to the right or left at launch depending on who knows what. That sends the ball bouncing back and forth down the lane and once it hits the halfpipe, it's a) not hitting it square and b) has lost too much velocity to make it around. Everything is as tight as it can be and I have changed velocity settings a number of times to no avail.

Here's my attempt at a slow motion video when it happens. Sorry if the video plays in a mirrored direction: https://photos.app.goo.gl/nPGFDVfC61DnbxZz8

One thing that puzzles me is how much L/R give there is in the connection at the plastic piece of the 515-6304-03 PLUNGER / LINK ASSEMBLY. I can watch the arm pivot L/R as I push back and forth. I feel like when it pivots too much during play, the issue occurs.

Here's a video that shows what I'm describing: https://photos.app.goo.gl/x2WX9ZbiHxkBrZWN7

I looked at a different Stern machine (Guardians I think?) and it didn't have hardly any give. Does anyone know if this amount of give mine has is expected?
If you don't think so, could maybe the shaft (# 4 - 545-5352-00 NYLINER, 3/16" SHAFT) be too long or the "pin" (#8 - 530-7834-00 PIN: KICKER ARM, AUTO-PLUNGER) cut incorrectly?

I feel like any one of the 5.9 AUTO LAUNCH ASSEMBLY parts, including the kicker arm being bent/distorted could be to blame. I'm not convinced it's the kicker arm though. I say that b/c if it was, I expect nearly 100% failure.

Sorry for the long post just really want to get this fixed and I have already installed a new 515-6304-03 PLUNGER / LINK ASSEMBLY. Stern sent me 3 and all are identical to the original one. I need to know which part(s) to ask them for next.

Quoted from sk8ball:

All calibration is done is software. Use the last 3 adjustments in the ADJ-GAME menu to calibrate home position bias as well as left and right. If t-rex is dropping too far to the right move the bias a couple steps negative. Too far left move it a couple steps positive.

I'm confused with having 3 bias settings.

If T-Rex is off to the left a bit when the jaw is down on the ramp waiting for the ball, then do I adjust the left, right, or home bias?

Do I adjust positive or negative?

Wouldn't it make more sense to owners to just have one alignment setting that can understandably go either left or right? Maybe even up or down?

Would really appreciate some info on this.

Thanks!

Looks great. I try to about toppers but this reminds me of the original but super charged.
Here's the plug
[quoted image][quoted image]

Yeah, that type of SAM +12v connection will defiantly need some sort of adapter or extra power connection splitter for it to hook into a SPIKE game. The one like marksf123 mentioned (that goes to the Cabinet Node 1 board CN11) if the topper power cable is long enough. Or you can get those type of adapters / power splitters that plug into the CN6 connection in the backbox as estrader mentioned.

I would think they would have included the adapter with the topper (since that type of SAM connection is not in SPIKE games), but I do think the classic SAM type +12v power connection is the best one to go with on mods, even if they are SPIKE mods. As adapters and splitters for that type of connection are easy to make, cheap and readily available.

As discussed in another thread, the CN6 connection in the backbox is getting way too crowded with mods wanting to plug in there and there aren't any low priced adapters or splitters to create more CN6 type connections. As for the SAM type connections...there are plenty of adapters and splitters available at Pinball Life.

To the CN11 "ticket" connection on the Cabinet Node board (if your power cable is long enough). Pinball Life also offer extended ones if your topper power cable is not long enough.

https://www.pinballlife.com/spike-12v-power-adapter-6-long.html

To the CN6 connection in the backbox if you aren't using it for anything else....or planning on using it for anything else.

https://www.pinballlife.com/spike-12-volt-backbox-power-adapter-cable.html

Or this splitter so you can plug a shed load of the SAM type +12 mods into the CN6 connection.

I was a bit dismayed to see that the T-Rex jackpot animations have been shortened. I liked the way they were before, but I suppose it made sense to shorten them from the full blown jaw chomping animation.

Has anyone had any issues with Trex after installing 0.96? I had two games where trex was off to the right and his jaw wasn't lowered when he was supposed to be in position to catch the ball. This was only when getting ready to start trex multiball. The other trex modes where he catches it were fine. It happened twice. I power cycled the machine and everything was back to normal. All tests appear fine. This never happened on any other software version. 0.96 was installed today. I played a few more games without issues so I'll keep an eye on it. Any thoughts on this?

When I updated to .96, the update deleted all my previous TRex bias adjustments. I suppose that’s what the “Notes” section of the manual is for....

My TRex was way off to the left after the .96 update and power cycling did not help. I went into the diagnostics and did the left/right test. After that it was ok. That single switch used for default home detection can be problematic I think.

I thought I was done with mods. WRONG!!!!! I am blaming this on my buddy Red_Devils . I was in the Austin area for work and went over and was ruined.

He showed me his Pinstadiums on his JP and they looked incredible. I know see how people have them on all machines.

A quick shout out to Steve @pinstadiums who called me to help tweak mine. We hooked up the Trex ramp to go off like a rock concert when the ball hits it.

Thanks so much for the time and also the info on the phone app.

Pinside and the people just rock, well most of them. HA

I'm really digging those toppers. That small acrylic edge that is glowing around the border really sets them off.

When looking at your pictures I'm wondering why the left speaker cone is getting more light bleed from the backbox vs the right side? Behind the right speaker does have more components making it a tighter area back there, but I have never noticed it making one side get less excess backbox light than the other.

Updated .96 code with more call outs. Mostly ball save but a few others. Freeze! is in there and they should all be destroyed for ball save. little more nerdy b/c not enough as is. Life finds a way for extra ball (random).

I put my sound at -2. Prem and LE only. Put spk file to root of usb and install just like normal stern FW.

Okay, couldn't resist... One more mod... pteranodon above the helix

I hate stuff that clutters or makes you lose the ball or cover lanes, but this one fits perfectly... Nothing obscured from the player perspective and it's rock solid, doesn't move or vibrate at all. Total cost $12 dollars for the pteranodon, the 2 wire lugs, wire, and screw.

The attachment method I used allows you to pose in any angle or config you can dream up... Mine is dive bombing the truck!

The hardware was Home Depot...

2 lugs (Burndy #14 - #8 Str), one sign holder wire (found in address sign area), cut and bent to fit, this was heavy duty stuff and took some force to cut and bend but holds shape extremely well, and 1 #8 -32 x 5/8 screw and nut

Drilled a hole and screwed right through back, nut just fit with a little compression

I previously posted that I updated to my LE to .95; and my settings show I’m still on 8 ohms and the sounds are the same on my example as before the update.
I’m a bit perplexed how some owners are now getting the altered 4 ohms while perhaps others are not (like myself). Could the update be that glitchy?
I did have the freeze/re-set off the missile shot- it will be nice to have that rectified and hopefully Stern can also address the sound issue for all owners in the next update.

Where in the setting can i check this? i just updated to .96 and the sound does not appear as good as before the update.

Thanks for the quick reply! Bummer. It's already a tough/tight shot and having that pesky screw impact the ball path is a bummer. If the guide were closer to the screw (or vice-versa), it wouldn't be a problem.

I just took a closer look at mine and it is definitely the same - ball clearly makes contact with the screw head. Rather annoyed they didn’t use flat head screws. I’ll definitely be replacing mine as that shot is hard enough to make without anything slowing the ball down.

I need to double check, but the helicopter ramp may have the same screws that need replacing.

Just had a washer drop out from somewhere near the TRex during TRex multiball. Cannot for the life of me find where it came from. Don’t see any missing screws and the places I know there are washers that size aren’t missing one. Assuming a screw had to fall out also but just can’t find it. Anyone have any ideas where it may have come from?

Just had a washer drop out from somewhere near the TRex during TRex multiball. Cannot for the life of me find where it came from. Don’t see any missing screws and the places I know there are washers that size aren’t missing one. Assuming a screw had to fall out also but just can’t find it. Anyone have any ideas where it may have come from?

Have you checked all the metal habitrail connection points?

Post a couple top down views of your playfield...a couple extra eyes looking can help, but it's really hard to narrow down not looking at the machine in person

I’m guessing this is a joke. Very helpful. Thank you.

Yeah just in a joking mood. I see I’m out of place here on pinside!
