Beloved pinside community,

I've been having an issue with my fish tales which caused tilts during (and only during) the multiball.
It's been quite annoying, and I finally made some steps towards a solution, but still without being able to solve it.

To summarize, it seems there is an issue between column 1 and column 3 of the switches, but that is not matrix related (tried with a brand new CPU, exact same behaviour)

so, what is happening:
When switches 16 and 36 are both activated (which happens when you have drained a ball and put one in the caster's club to activate the jackpot) then all others switches I hit from column 3 are also activating their counterpart on column 1...

so 16 and 36 together are also activating 18
16 + 36 + 34 are activating 18 and 14, thus causing a tilt.
16 + 36 + 35 are activating 18 and 15
and so on

I am wondering if the switch 38 is not related, but it's the reel opto, and it behaves just fine in test.

I thought it was diode related, I changed the diodes of the below switches but no luck
new diodes: Sw 36, 15, 16, 17, 18, 34

Help?

Just for reference of anyone helping, here is the switch info from the manual attached

Isolate the opto switch board. Disconnect J1 and try your switch tests again.

Many thanks

Would someone have pics of their wiring on the following switches?
Catapult
Through 1 to 3
Spinner
Ball eject

Sure sounds like a diode. Even if the diodes are fine, is there something causing a short between the lugs that the diode sits on. For instance, I had a switch that was missing the insulating paper between two blades, and it behaved exactly like a shorted diode even though the diode was fine.

Others seem to suggest an opto board issue. I’m not familiar with the game so that could very well be it, but I thought I would mention my experience in case it helps.

You could post pictures of your wiring and have someone confirm it. That way there will be more eyes looking at the issue.

many thanks all for the insights, it seems to be solved!
Catapult switch was wrongly wired by previous owner.
Thx to a pic from a friend I rewired mine and it seems all good!
