Up to 6, plus a High Hand [I know....you have a Capt Card,...price was right] waiting to be fixed up. All are playable but some need some loving, [Buccaneer is painted black with rust paint] but my favourites, Hit The Deck and Blue Note are very nice. And yes, my phone camera sucks big time....

I'm excited to add my first em to the collection. Ive fixed up a couple for other people, but this one will be a keeper. Got it from an operator that had it in storage for ~ 35 years. He said it was one of the first games he unboxed (as a young tech) for the operator he eventually bought out.

Got everything working and cleaned up, just waiting for a flipper rebuild kit and shooter springs!

Just got my first EM last weekend. It's a Gotlieb El Dorado and I've been playing the heck out of it ever since. It's been home use since 1978 and the condition is excellent. One question though, the tilt ends the game (instead of just the ball in play). Is this an operator setting or just the way the game is?

Anyway, I am glad to be part of the club.

For Gottlieb single players, a tilt ends your game, and it's non adjustable. It's just the way they are.

Thanks, the tilt is pretty tight. I'll have to loosen it up a bit.

not true.
around late 76 or early 77 they had a single pin jones plug that would either end the game or just the ball during a tilt. it is labeled as " tilt in or out "
i will have to dig to find the first game it was used on

I have only one Replay machine (North Star) set up, and thinking I've never tilted it, thus, hadn't known

Strange World has that setting for the Tilt. The plug is located next to the score motor.

Thanks for clarifying, gentlemen! I was not aware of that. All the wedgeheads I've worked on tilt out the game, but that clearly wasn't a large enough sample size to make that assumption.

#117 5 years ago

While paint was drying, I played a couple machines with Majorettes being one of them.
I haven't gone through the Gigi or Slick Chick yet, but this one has a much different
game play than the others I have played. I don't play it often, but when I do, only one
game usually's not enough..

I played my newest (upgraded) Show Boat the other night. This wedgehead is for sure in my top 5 favorites.
Check out the score and match number.

If I had to bet, I'd say you did that purposely.
With your skills, that high score should have been beat..
(Or you were playing one handed)

#120 5 years ago

That score on Show Boat is for real and just ended up being all 9’s including the match. My highest score on the Show Boat I just sold that I had for 13 years was 2383 points. I am hoping to beat that score soon on my newly acquired Show Boat.

I was playing this 4 pack of wedgehead recently and end up with a nice score on my Central Park.

I meant to say "Score to Beat". The 1,200
I was only kidding. I knew it landed on the 9s coincidentally, but after looking at some of your
high scores on your saved high score list, I did have a point..

#122 5 years ago

Tonight I turned the score reels around on my 2001 and ended up with 11,450 points and 8 replays.

Three replays were awarded at 5900,7300 and 8100 for points. The other 5 replays, I nailed the center top arch kick out hole for Special and alternating Special at the stand up bulls eye targets.

Tonight I played that Domino next to Vic's 2001.

Holy sh*t! I thought Vic's games played well before his PM, but now they are untouchable! flippers are snappy, pop bumpers strong, switches sensitive, rubbers bouncy. I don't recall how these games played when new, as I've probably gotten accustomed to 50 year old games, but Vic's games have to play better than new. Or maybe just as good, in which case it explains why I got hooked on pinball.

BTW, his games apparently like to end on scores like this one....

been giving my gottlieb fun fair from 1968 lots of play. this is the italian aab from italy.

it was imported into australia a few years ago. this game features the ball kicker between the flippers that sends the ball back up thr playfield when an extra ball is rewarded.

this feature was only used on a handful of italian gottlieb pins.

Nice looking Fun Fair. I hadn't seen one outside of a flyer..
So the 1-5 for balls are hidden until lit on the backglass, and for an extra ball,
after the ball drains, it remains on the same ball and a plunger shoots the ball
back up the playfield? If so, is the front of the kick-out hole notched out in
such a way so that a plunger shoots the ball back up the playfield?

I'll take photos and video of it in action over the next day or so. it's a very cool feature.

i was playing my spin a card the other night and won 10 games . i know technically it isnt a wedgehead but it got me wondering what other games have the feature when special lit you get a game for ball draining?

#129 5 years ago

Played this chronological order of wedge heads the other night and it felt great.

Quoted from Vic_Camp:

That's a pretty line up!
On the Mibs, I haven't yet went through either but is Mib's game play similar to Rack-a-Ball
or Bowling Queen? I think I might have once heard like Rack-a-Ball..

#131 5 years ago

In December of 1962 Gottlieb manufactured Rack a Ball which was the first wedge head with this playfield design layout. Then in July of 1964 Gottlieb manufactured Bowling Queen which has the identical playfield design layout as Rack a Ball. Then the last wedge head to get this identical playfield design layout was Mibs in September of 1969.

Most collectors lean towards the Bowling Queen first to add to their wedge head line up and Rack a Ball second. Last in line is Mibs which sometimes gets a bad rap because of the artwork isn't as nice as the other two wedge heads.

I personally like and have Mibs in my collection because it's a game I distinctively remember playing in the candy store 50 feet from my house back in 1969 when it first came out. Also the scoring with the 100 point gong bell is very sharp and loud when it gets stuck with that metal plunger 5 times for 5000 points.

Lets face it, with the same playfield design layout on all three wedge heads playability is the identical. Its for sure is a unusual or different designed playfield layout and not the normal from that era, but because of that playability wise its enjoyable, for me that is.

I remember the vendor bring this game into the candy store for the first time and setting it for us pinheads to play. The first thing we learned about this game was the player only needed to hit the three stand up targets on the playfield to light SPECIALS, which alternated at the four side outs. When we found this out it became a huge lure into wanting play this game all the time, since most other wedge heads require a more full- length sequence to reach Specials when lit.

Mopar....I know your more an Add a Ball guy, but I thought I would explain in detail about these three SPECIAL when lit Gottlieb wedge heads. It would have been cool if Gottlieb made an Add a Ball with this play field design layout for sure.

The first link below view my MIBS game play and instruction video on my you tube page. The other link you will find other wedge head game play videos too.

And I might say, very well explained!
It's nice you have fond memories of the title of games you played when young..
When a kid, I only played pinball once in a while. I might remember one being
Mini Pool, but don't really remember the titles, but I do know at least 4 of the 5
(maybe sometimes all 5) in the Coffee Shop/Newspaper Stand were Wedge Heads..
Yes mostly AAB, but I do have a North Star set up and maybe thinking of going
through another Replay. The ones that I have, I've never played. I'm not sure which
would probably be best to go through. The choices I have are: Bowling Queen, Gigi, Slick
Chick, Kings $ Queens, World Fair, Skyline, Cover Girl, Olympics, and Rack-a-Ball, (but you
mentioned Bowling Queen's more appealing). For some reason World Fair stuck out
to me, but I really don't know which one I (and others) would most likely enjoy best..
BTW: Not any of these Replays has an AAB counter which is probably the reason I
had picked them up..

#135 5 years ago

Kings and Queens would be my first choice. It has great playability.
