The kickback on my High Speed is weak. Read some threads and seems I should start with a new tip. Looked at my kickback and I can't tell what's on the end of it - looks destroyed. Is this supposed to be a grommet? Is this the right one? https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/38-6420 I assumed I was looking for a rubber tip, but maybe not.

I think a rod tip is what you want. (https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/38-1100W)

The grommet is on the back of the bracket and cushions the solenoid rod. It too could be worn and need replacement.
Unless it is the cam angle, your rod angle appears to be off which would certainly impact strength.

If you don't have the manual, download here, part numbers are listed and should be cross referenced with the big vendors.

Those are only used on manual plungers. The rubber tip on a kickback is build in to the plunger and as far as I know not replaceable separately

Good call, you can tell I don't have any of them 'fancy' games with kick backs.

Check switch timing suspect the plunger is energizing too early check the ball as it drains to see what point the plunger fires.
Check for drag on the plunger with apron off,
The tip could be cleaned up so contact is made at the center of ball/or replaced

Also check other factors like the sleeve & coil, and when the switch fires

Thanks, I'll start digging in to this. In the meantime, I was messing around with the kickback in the diagnostics. It kicked three-four times, maybe a second or two apart, then blew the 2.5a fuse in the backbox for it and the hideouts. Does that seem like an issue?

A relay controls the kickback as well. Ive seen pitted contacts on the kickback relay cause issues as well.

Yes. Is it the correct (AE-24-900) coil? Cut off the coil diode. Measure the coil resistance. A 24-900 coil should read about 5.5 ohms. If the coil reads good then install a new diode (1n4007) correctly. Then retest after installing a 2.5 amp slow blow fuse.

The more I work on this pin, the more I realize someone really bastardized it. Coil installed in the kick back is an SFL20 300/30. If it's a suitable substitute, I'm not seeing it listed anywhere as such.

I assume I should start with the correct coil (AE-24-900.) Any chance I can get a part number for the correct sleeve for the High Speed kick back? I THINK it's a 2-1/16" Flanged Coil Sleeve #03-7067-3 , 03-7067-5.

So pick up a coil, the sleeve, the grommet (It's smashed) and a new plunger (Tip is about gone) A-6306-2. Sound right?

Looks like 03-7067-5 is the part number. Here's the sleeve I replaced on mine: https://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/03-7067-5.
