The flippers on my NF are "week" when I try to catch and hold the ball. On slow balls it's no problem - the bat will catch the ball and hold it without any problems. But once the ball speed goes up making the impact with the bat harder, it will "flip" the ball even though I have the button on hold.

I've cleaned the optos, cleaned the EOS switch and tried ajusting the EOS but without luck.

I think the ball will hit the bat so hard that the EOS is disconnected which will re-fire the main coil and send the ball off rather than holding it. But - it's just a theory. Can be something else.

If you think it's an EOS issue - should I then make the gap smaller or larger?

Looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Is the fine coil wire firmly soldered to the lugs?

Check your plunger and stop for wear.

Is the flipper "machine gunning" at all ?

Get a new coil stop. I had the same problem on several machine. Sometimes a new coil stop fixes the problem. They have the tendency to get magnetic which is no good.
Do you have the correct return spring installed? If the spring is too strong it could cause that s well.

New coils on both flippers did the trick.

What would cause that?

Hold coil not operable. Power coil pulls flipper up, hits EOS. Power cut from power coil, flipper starts to drop. EOS is releases, which powers the power coil again, re-lifting flipper. Repeats several times, giving a 'machine gun' type sound as it batters away.

So the low power coil is not strong enough to hold the flipper up?

Yeah. Or spring too strong. Or hold coil wire/power bad.

Was just thinking about the spring. Thanks for confirming it.
