Thanks hawkmoon - I feel better now! And thanks for your service too.

    Quoted from Frippertron:

    [Deliverance banjo playing actor image]

Deliverance was supposedly the movie that Burt Reynolds considered to be his finest. Billy Redden (the kid in Deliverance) sure "played" a mean banjo in the film for someone who didn't actually play one in real life - amazing filmwork and editing! Dueling Banjos is such a great instrumental too!

Also is a good time to rewatch those Archer episodes with The Man.

Love Gunsmoke. He and Festus were the best characters outside of Matt, Kitty, and Doc.
    RIP Quint.

My entire pro wrestling persona (including my pen name) was based around being Uncle Burt's illegitimate nephew. Backstory was he sent to take over wrestling arenas to turn them into franchised dinner theaters.

    I am so sad tonight.

Miss ya Gator. One of my all time favorite actors. His movies always put a smile on my face. That's priceless.

The name of the game is Survival...the machines are going to fail.
I saw the last movie star, great scene when says to the Deliverance Burt "Damn you're good looking" and then laughs the BR laugh. Solid Gold.

How can you not watch this movie whenever it comes on? RIP Bandit

My roommates and I went to see Hooper one evening before going out for the night. There’s a scene where he drives in reverse to get away. After bar and Taco Bell, my roommate drove his truck backwards like a madman home.

Whether it was Bandit, Hooper, Stroker or any of the characters he played, you wanted to be him.

Was he the first to just look right into the camera and smile at the viewer?

RIP Burt. You made me laugh.

Burt was a blessed man on many fronts.

    RIP Bandit.

I loved the Smokey movies and the turd ferguson snl sketches are priceless. My mom had a Burt Reynolds poster in her sewing room so i passed the bandit everyday going to my room. HOF stash

    We'll miss you Smokey

As a tribute, we rewatched Smokey and the Bandit tonight.

I rarely watch a movie more than once, but I’ve watched this one probably 50 times. Me and Danni can recite the script word for word. She probably watched the first time when she was still in diapers.

So many great lines in this movie. Beaufort T Justice is really the star of the movie, he has the killer lines. “You summm bitcchhh!”

When I was a kid, living in a small town with nothing much to do, every Saturday afternoon we would go to the 1pm matinee at the cinema. In the early 80s, the Burt movies were the king of the matinees. Cannonball Run, the Smokeys, all on high repeat.

I reckon his best role was as porn director Jack Horner in Boogie Nights. What a great movie.

Sorry to hear, You know when your getting old when you remember it was a big deal he possed for Playgirl magazine and I don't think this has been mentioned.

I really liked Deliverance since I canoed a lot and tried to play the banjo. Also The Longest Yard. RIP Bandit.

    #77 5 years ago

Couple years back he was on the Dan Lebatard show regularly and told a story how he once rented a helicopter and dumped manure on the national enquire building. What a badass mfer!

Back in the grand ole MySpace days I discovered the Byzantine boys' joke side-project---the Burt Reynolds Death Metal Experiment. Their song "Envy" is all about wanting Burt's moustache. In fact, the chorus is "I WANT BURT REYNOLDS MOUSTACHE!!!"
    RIP Bandit.

    #85 5 years ago

Actually was flipping around the tv on Sunday, and caught most of Cannonball Run 2. Funny seeing all the stars in they movie, always love watching the credits for the bloopers. RIP. he will be missed...

    #86 5 years ago

    I havent seen this since I was 12, 1972.
If you have a pin from this year, some of us were absorbed in this, worth a watch.

    Seems like yesterday....RIP.

What a great movie. Quotes and a song you know by hearing only three notes.

Man how did we make it through a celebrity death thread without the usual suspects reminding us that the military are our real heroes or that Burt’s number of bad movies were outnumbered only by his bad hairpieces?

I think we’ve found the one figure that is universally loved!!

And yeah today’s fashions might consider it tacky but I’d still love one of those trans ams with the eagle on the hood.

Longest yard and boogie nights probably my favorites of his. I can’t really handle deliverance!!
