Quoted from TigerLaw:I think the ratings have meaning, they are just easy to manipulate. I have been proposing something for a long time on this site and I seem to slowly be gaining a few converts here and there so I will make the suggestion again.
I think we need to do away with "relic voting". Relic voting is votes that were cast years ago by people who are no longer part of this community. If you haven't logged on to pinside in a year then your vote gets deleted.
As shocking as this may be for many people to believe, there are (and were in the past) many people who had multiple accounts simply to manipulate ratings. Those people forget those accounts and don't log in much, but that relic vote is still there affecting the current ranking. Also, if you put a one year log in rule then you insure that the rankings are reflective of the current crop of members we have here.
Why would someone's vote from 2008 hold water if they haven't logged in since 2009 (and maybe weren't even a real voter) when their vote was cast prior to games like Tron and AC/DC being released. We must get rid of the relic voting . . . the side benefit is getting rid of all the alt accounts that people created to mess up the voting to begin with.
I think an easier solution would be to prevent any voting at all on a new machine until three months from it's initial release date. That would give time for the giddiness to wear off and encourage people to give a more honest vote, in addition to having a larger review pool and seeing how much replay value it has.
