Hi Guys, Brian with Mission Pinball here.
We didn't take the website down, rather we just moved the forum (which was self hosted WordPress / bbpress) over to Google Groups since it seemed like we were spending more time dealing with spam and security fixes than working on pinball code. The new forum is here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/mpf-users
The old forum on missionpinball.com is still there for archive purposes, we just disabled new posting there.
We also moved the documentation off of our own self-hosted platform to ReadTheDocs. The new docs site is here: http://docs.missionpinball.org
(Note the docs site is missionpinball.ORG. We will convert & forward the main website from missionpinball.com to missionpinball.org in a few weeks. Really just to reflect this is a non-commercial open source project and not a real company.)
As for moving from MPF 0.21 to 0.30, we have a migration tool that can get most of the config files moved over (it probably does about 90% of everything?) I've put out the offer in the past (and will extend the offer to you) that I'd be happy to personally migrate anyone's files who needs help. We made a lot of changes from 0.21 to 0.30, so we're hoping everything moving forward is pretty minor. (It's a challenge because we're sort of figuring everything out as we go along, so some changes and improvements require some config file changes.)
As epotech wrote, MPF 0.30 brings a lot of improvements. 64-bit, Python 3.x, OpenGL and GPU-based rendering for graphics, the ability to use multiple CPU cores, better video playback, a much more powerful audio system. MPF 0.31 (which will be out in a few weeks) improves the speed of everything across the board and removes much of the threading (using asyncio instead). MPF 0.31 will not require any config file changes from MPF 0.30.
Anyway, I'll be in Europe in Oct/Nov.. I'm thinking I should schedule a Friday night visit with you guys to help get all your configs updated to the latest MPF version. Of course you can continue to run 0.21.x as long as you want, but we're still a team of guys working 60 or so hours a week on MPF, so if you can get to the new version, you'll be able to keep up with all the latest improvements. (Which will also include things that are missing in 0.21 like ball search, a service mode, a GUI-based utility for hooking into and troubleshooting live games, etc.)
Awesome work on this project so far. I'm excited to play it some day!

Hi brian!
You know what the biggest hurdle is?
I started fresh with 0.30 and quickly realised the 0.21 does not run anymore( i believe it is the python version that blocks it).
If you can run versions side by side, your old game still works..and plays..
Now i had nothing working anymore...yeah , a flipping whitewood on 0.30...
I just figured it was a bit too crazy for me after all the work too have nothing again.
the minion pinball itself runs and plays reasonable if i cut back on slides and audio.
Still sometimes boots without sound, but since i cut down on slides/audio, the percentages while booting go superfast.
you are very welcome when you are in town,we tool around from 19:00 till 00:30 on friday
We'll have a cold Heineken ready for you
I can show you my awesome programming skills and my super organised code
Yeah, there are a few things you need to do to get Python 2 and Python 3 to run side-by-side. But no prob. Keep chugging along with 0.21, and I'll DM you when I know my schedule, and we'll get together, drink Heineken, and get you updated to 0.31 (as I'm sure it will be then) and get your config a migrated over. Fun!
