I was fortunate to get a CE. In the end, I want a game that's fun and a challenge to play. That's #1 over mechs, toys, and gimmicks. For example, JP2 is highly rated. Great mechs (moving T-Rex, probably coolest mech, but adds almost nothing to game play), and good shots. But, is almost impossible to look at playfield and know what to do. Game rules are hard to follow. And, like Dialed In, the general idea of how to play is quickly understood and yet it's a very hard game to conquer. To date, my favorite JJP is DI because of that. Now, that game has great mechs too, but it's the game rules that keep me coming back to DI.

Forgot to mention the whole "screen-gate" issue. DI was genius by Pat to have screen right over scoop. It was easily visible and actually provided useful feedback. No need to look at the big screen, which no one does during game play any way. However, a screen close to game play is much more in view and viewable. So, if TS4 applies same approach as DI, then it will be very useful.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Wood playfields don't become something else just because they raised the price. Put away the magnifying glass.

If you want to see bad, look at a Stern playfield after a few months. If you thought you are seeing "imperfections" on the JJP pin, you would be very very disappointed in a modern Stern playfield.

Yay, I'm in the club. Got my beautiful CE yesterday. However, upon taking glass off, I got a top to bottom scratch on the glass. So tight the lock down receiver scratched the glass. Also, the back-glass doesn't seem to really lock in regardless of key position. The glass can still lift up. Anyone else have that same issue? I submitted ticket for the glass and back-glass issue, but I love the game. I've owned DILE, WoZ, and WW and I think TS4 is better than all of those games.

Follow-up. Scratch caused by left trough spot-light. You might want to check that to avoid scratching. Boy, I'm glad I kept my CE. It's far better than the "haters" said. If Stern Munsters LE can get $18K, so will TS4CE in a few years.

Have a recently received CE last week. Played great up until today. Getting resets and not starting. Took off driver plate to do the ATX reset but the game started up again without any changes. Then, during game play, stopped and game restarted. I'm assuming a loose connection? Thoughts on what to reseat or check? Thanks.

Quoted from arcadenerd925:

When you were trying to start it and it wouldnt boot up, what would you see on the screen?

Nothing, all dark.

#1927 1 year ago
Quoted from arcadenerd925:

Ok, next: normally when you power up the game, a little light show will happen with the inserts and lights on the PF before the PC screen comes on, is that happening?
(trying to sort out if this is an issue with the PC, or power to the entire game)

Thanks. I'm getting different things. During game play, the game just locks up and resets. Other times, during a game it locks up, a few things are lit, and it again resets. One time the game didn't start and everything was dark. I talked to JP the first time when it would not even start. At that time, I took off the plate to driver board to do an "ATX reset" but when I turned on the game to do the reset, it started up. I closed it back up, and then started to see the other issues listed. Meaning, game starting and during gameplay getting resets.

Quoted from arcadenerd925:

if the majority of the time it boots up fine but ocassionally resets during the game, I would look in the backbox where the PC mainboard is and just check the plugs (CPU FAN, etc) I would also unplug and re-plug in the SSD drive (assuming they still use these).
if it often is not booting up at all, thats why i asked about the little light show on the PF that starts as soon as you kick the power on, if that is NOT happening, perhaps there is an issue with the power supply (loose cable, etc or maybe its just a bad unit)

Thanks will check all that out.

Quoted from Navystan:

Thanks will check all that out.

Thanks everyone for the help. Makes sense the machine is shutting down if fan stops working and "PC" starts to overheat. Will check all the connections and reseat.

Update on my random resets on my CE. I really did nothing and the resets seem to have stopped. I did notice one day after the machine on a few hours I took off the back glass just to check things and noticed the monitor sides warm as I pulled it out. Is that normal or maybe a sign things are over heating? I took a picture of the board behind the metal plate and notice the "yellow" blinking light. Looks orange in the picture. My Dialed In blinks "red" so maybe blinking is the right condition in general. The two fans seem to be working just less powerful compared to my DI. The DI is faster and louder with the fans compared to the TS. One last thing I had happen was during game the topper kaboom guy kept spinning for about a minute or two and stopped on its own. Any thoughts? Thanks!

So, for those following, I was getting game resets. It appears my wife had a space heater plugged in and in operation. Although I'm in the basement and she is on upper floor (3 level house), it still seemed to affect game power.

Now, onto another issue. I think I might have seen this posted here, but the topper/kaboom guy keeps spinning when jump hit. I have to turn off game to reset and then it works again until I hit the jump again.

Thoughts how to fix? Thanks.

I have had my CE for a few weeks now. My initial impressions are still the same. I have owned most of the A+ pins and this is by far the most fun to play. For me, in the end, shots and rules are the most important. The theme is the icing. Dialed In has great shots and rules, but somehow the theme has more an impact than I realize. "Toys" and mechs are cool, but wear off of having any lasting value. So, all in all, I'm a happy camper.

Anyone know? Does this plug belong plugged in? It's just dangling behind my display. I've been working on a bad topper and maybe I accidentally unplugged this?

So, my topper saga continues. JJP send me a new control board for the topper since it was resetting game. Well, new board didn't help and now both old and new boards don't work. I added connectors one at a time to narrow down issue and discovered the micro USB data cable causes game to not start. I tried another cable to see if a cable issue, but same issue, game doesn't start. Any ideas what to do? When I unplug the data cable to the topper, the game works fine.

Quoted from jeff1978:

Anyone have the issue where when duke caboom moves on the topper it cuts power to the topper and no longer works until the next time you power off/on the machine. Sometimes I get lucky and it stays on until I hit the jump ramp but it ends with the topper turning off after duke moves. All the screws look fine and tight. I can’t find anything that looks off. Very weird!

I'm in the middle of having issues with topper too. Been working with JJP techs on multiple fixes. Latest is they are sending me a power cable to use another available power source to plug into. You might want to reach out to them too.

Update: I received a revised power cable for the topper. After connecting, topper works 100% again. So, apparently the normal connection to power was not good and tapping off the LED strip power cable fixed the problem.
