There is a chance that you have a cold solder joint. The trough shakes a lot and your descriptions sounds like an intermittent problem, which may be one of the solder joints. Try reflowing the solder on the board (esp the large resistors, .156" headers, and opto LEDs) and see if that fixes your problem.
