I picked up my very first pin (#No Fear) recently and up closer inspection I see some damage apparently due to the (oversized?) washers on the sides of the playfield area. These don't look like they're the right washers. Can someone tell me a) what size washers this should have (if any) and b) if they should be flat or locking, and c) Is that clear plastic supposed to be removed or permanent? I know I could figure this out on my own, but I'm afraid I'll replace them all with my "best guess" only to find out I somehow made it worse. Thanks!

Anyone with blades needs these. They work great

EricHadley Is right everyone really likes those protectors. I use these clear nylon washers for my playfield plastics. Maybe you can find a size that will fit your screws.

You can always flatten out one side of the washers so they don't come anywhere near the side.

Too early this morning for me, I read the title and thought, why are people putting side blades in the washing machine?? Too damn early.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those -shouldn't- be necessary if the washers are the correct size as (and again, correct this rookie if he's wrong) the proper washers shouldn't protrude past the edge? If I'm right on the washers, what else would wreck the side art other than the playfield itself being raised roughly? When I emailed pics to one of the companies that makes these they said mine were made cheaply.

Not raising it symmetrically will risk damage. It's easier to do than you think. Or, your playfield to side distance is just tight, which is also a possible variant. Either way or none of the above, I would get the side protectors from Pinball Life. Worth every penny and they can be used when working on all your games.

Great idea, but 35 bucks!!!
I use construction paper and it works great

As far as the problem with the washers, just file them down a bit

Some people place blue painters tape on the sides of their playfield

lol 35 bucks, there really isn't anything much cheaper in pinball than that

I was actually toying with the idea of using some of that felt material on the sides of the play field to keep it centered. The play field in my Whirlwind moves about 1/8" in either direction making it easy to scratch the sides if it's not centered.

Yes there is...introducing "paper blades" (patent pending), easy to use, fits any game with easy size adjusting (scissors not included)..
Only $.45 each
Many colors to choose from, collect them all!
