Warning: Don't Use IKEA AA Batteries!

These are but 2 years old.
This happened while just sitting and not being used...

Ouch....Don’t trust your baby with batteries from a furniture store? Some items deserve the best, I’d say a pinball machine is one of them.

Duracell are the worst I have seen, leak like a mofo. I wouldn't put one in anything I own after seeing them leak so bad. All my pins have Nvram, so no more worries...Best $2 each spent!

Where are you getting NVRAMs for $2 each?

    #5 6 years ago

    AliExpress

did you opt to put those famous meatballs in the machine, too?

I figured he might have spilled some lingonberry juice on them.

"These"? I only see one. And if it was sitting on that metal thing for 2 years that fuzz is to be expected.

    #9 6 years ago

Adding to the long list of Ikea crap that I would never allow in my home.

    It sat a few days...
    Purchased a while ago...
"These" implies this batch of batteries it was in...

only use energizer lithium batteries now, no leakage and they last longer

And for some reason, IF they leak...Energizer will replace any damaged parts due to leaking.

Anyone got a link to the AliExpress page selling these?

Edit: actually just found some good info on cheap chips here - https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/nvram-experience

Can happen to any batteries. I was at the store yesterday and they had new packs of energizers and lots were leaking in the sealed package.

I wouldn’t buy IKEA anything. I’ve been to that sh*thole one time and I’ll never go back. Nothing but junk there. I honestly cannot figure out why people like the place so much. The furniture is total junk and you gotta walk through a maze just to get around the store. Never again!

    #18 6 years ago

Like everyplace they have some stuff that is lower quality, and some that is higher quality. I've ben quite happy with the things I have purchased there.

Yeah but who wants to deal with that when you can just put NVRAM in and NEVER deal with a warranty claim or damage to your game?

People still using batteries puzzles me so much... even remote holders require work and maintenance and the batteries themselves have a cost to replace on a regular basis.

Most modern furniture is cheap junk made out of really cheap particle board. You'll be lucky to get 3-5 years out of it.

I generally like to buy antique furniture. It's usually durable hardwood, looks nice, and since IKEA was popularized, antique furniture has been very cheap at auctions. You could probably furnish an entire house for under $1k these days. Antique furniture styles just aren't "in" like they were years ago--but If I buy a table for $100 and it lasts another 100+ more years, I'd say it was a good purchase.
