My STTNG had factory settings reset. I had a few gremlins to tend to so I ignored it over a few weeks. Just added credits each time I wanted to test out a repair. I figured the batteries were dead as I hadn’t changed them in a while. Today I grabbed the remote battery holder and it looked like this. I tossed the holder, put a new one in and good to go. Board is fresh as a daisy. Definitely saved me weeks of downtime and hundreds of dollars had that battery leaked on the board . You have been warned to check your batteries and get them off your boards.
    BTW, Duracell batteries suck large

I’ve nvram ‘d all the games I could that didn’t need any extra work to do. Tossed in high end batteries in the couple otherwise

And to reiterate for the millionth time.
AA batteries DO NOT leak acid.
They leak ALKALINE. The damage can be neutralized with an acid if not terrible.

Be careful when buying Lithium batteries on Amazon or Ebay. I bought a pack ( supposedly retail Energizer Lithium ) on Amazon, and I kept getting factory settings restored on a WPC machine. I took the batteries out and compared them to a known good pack that I had. They were much lighter in weight and voltage was between 1.2-1.4V instead of 1.5V on these "new" batteries. Turns out they were counterfeits. Swapped them out and the issue went away completely.

Just a word of caution when buying from third party sellers on Amazon or eBay.

NVRAM is great, but would have required desoldering of the RAM and soldering in a socket in this wpc89 board

I just picked up a pinbot from an estate, they owned it since 1990, it had sat folded up for 18 yrs, needless to say I'm shocked!

Plucked them right out, zero board damage, remote battery holder installed!
