After finding a couple of copies of this game with local collectors, I put this game on my want list. One of the other local collectors found a copy of this game a few states away. After making the purchase I finally got to the seller a few months later on the 4th of July weekend. 800 miles each way was a long way, but the quest for this game has been a fun one. When I bought the game, I knew it didn't have a BG and was missing plastics. One of the local collectors gave me his second BG that wasn't in as good shape and I'm talking to the other collector for some scans of plastics to be made with another local pinhead who owns a printing shop. A few connectors need to be replaced and there are some spots on the pF that need to be touched up, but this thing plays great and I look forward to sessioning it out thoroughly.

Thank you to all the people who helped with this acquisition and it's time to play more pinball!

This the one that was in Tennessee or Arkansas ?

#3 9 years ago

I've been eyeballing that title.

#4 9 years ago

I had Defender and Time Fantasy and just could never convince myself to add this one.

#5 9 years ago

This is the same playfield layout as another game, correct? Time Fantasy? Need to look at pics...

Edit: nope, i'm wrong.

#7 9 years ago

very similar but not 100% identical to blackout

#8 9 years ago

The Layout between Blackout and Warlok has a general layout that is similar, but there are some small and a few big differences that add up to a much better playing game.

Small:
1) Layout. Warlok replaces the saucer in the middle right hand side of the PF with a bonus collect gate.
2) I actually prefer the bank of standups on the left hand side of Blackout as compared to Warlok, but this is a very minor consideration in the terms of overall design as the bumper ledge below the "1" bank starts that ever so deadly side to side arching of the ball's path.
3) Flipper arrangement. The Kubin/Kirk connection is known for their wide spacing with a post in between. This game has it and your flipper skills need to be adjusted accordingly.

Big:
1) The rules. These are much better. The whole build and collect bonus with strong play during as well as at the end of a ball makes this the kind of game that you never really beat (consider the best Bally games of this era). Between that and the middle drop target lighting up for the extra ball when 1-2-3 are all in line on the bonus ladder. all 14 shots on the PF have a purpose and the balance of the game is incredibly well managed. I passed on a Blackout, not a problem. Finding a Warlok was one of the more difficult things I have had to pin-quest for. And frankly, I got lucky as someone else told me about the one I ended up buying. Blackout you can flair and still have a pretty good game. Warlok requires tactical considerations, solid timing and sniper skills.

Wishlist:
Voices and multiball and an art package that doesn't look like poot. I'm going to try to make a BG (and maybe a plastic set) based off of my Heavy Metal/ Moebius collection (http://ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=5175&picno=32570 and http://ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=4576&picno=11434 for examples). Constantino Mitchell should be gurned out for ripping off the mighty Steranko. Nick Fury is upset that his image was bltantly ripped off of the cover of Agent of shield #6

For me, Blackout is a good game, Warlok is a much better one.

Neither are the pictures good, nor does the playfield lighting work but it's in my basement and still a lot of fun!

http://imgur.com/a/8LBcf

I'll make better pictures once I get the lighting to work and have cleaned it. The playfield is in fantastic condition, besides being a bit dusty.

#13 9 years ago

Sheesh, where were you guys back in 2007? I had one here for sale that the playfield was blown out and the cabinet was a mess but it was still a Warlok. Up until that point I had never even heard of the game and actually had to look it up....LOL. The other thing is that it worked 100% and played great but I couldn't make it go away for even $300. I had to end up parting it out, I'm sad to say.
I'd post a picture of what the playfield looked like but after trying to get it to load eight times I've given up so this is what you get.

You don't maybe have a left slingshot plastic and a pop bumper cap by any chance?

#15 9 years ago

I have Blackout and Warlok. This is my 2nd Warlok, I sold my original one a couple years ago (I posted that I was taking it to Expo, and hadn't decided if it was going to be for sale...I got an email instantly from a friend that said NO it isn't for sale it is SOLD name your price, so I let it go. Regretted it but found another one and got it all restored and back together now.) I am taking it to Chicago Pinball Expo before anyone else asks...NO it is NOT for sale!! I like Warlok, but I think I like Blackout game play a bit better...gotta play it some more!
They are both great games!! Classics!!

I like Warlok and Blackout. I enjoy playing warlock, but when I had to decide between the two, I picked Blackout. Taking the rarity out of the picture, I just liked the art work/theme and sounds better than Warlok...and since the play fields are pretty much the same, I didn't miss Warlok much......only bad thing is the Blackout back glasses can be in pretty rough shape. I'd love it if CPR did a repro blackout back glass! Oh, back to topic.....I do LOVE the Warlok loop sound!

Pretty much. It's an early SS by Williams with Stern flipper spacing and centerpost with a Metheor/Blackout playfield and Flash sounds.
It's three great pins in one!

Sorry to be OT, but how did you get that Joust marque to light up like that?

We can take it to PM to keep this thread on-topic.

Thanks!

So, what is your highscore?
I still have to rebuild my flipper mechanics because they are a bit flimsy, giving in a bit when I catch a high velocity ball, but it plays well otherwise. Orbit shots aren't a problem.
Still, my highest score is 1.9 million. I will try to finally break the set 2.5 million next vacation and have gotten a lot better but it's still a brutal score for a factory setting.

Any playtips? I think I should go more for multiplicators.

I am getting a minty 4 million bc and some dinero. That and I'm helping another pinhead realize their dream of owning a barracora. My pinball karma is good with all of that.

Pass it along!

I know a guy with a NOS PF. Unfortunately you would need to have it shipped from New Zealand.

How do the rules compare to Blackout?

I have limited time on blackout so cant say I know the intracies off the top of my head.
Check out the C2C review of Warlok for detail on gameplay and strategy. I absolutely love the EB strategy and combined with shot layout and inlane awarding a #3 drop (sometimes when you really dont want it) plus the idea of avoiding the center drops for EB opportunity when it arises. There really are 3 paths to big scores and they constantly evolve depending what you have hit. A single drop inadvertantly hit can change your entire path.

The sounds provide perfect cue as to what it happening and the damn thing is butter smooth in geometry. Knowing your favorite MOF > you would love this game.

I cant wait to get out of work and go session mine again tonight.

The perfect amount of challenge and I am so close to beating the default 2.5 mil I can tastes it (granted I set my games up tough)

#42 6 years ago

Between the two, Warlok is the far superior player. The layout is very similar, but the Stern Flipper gap and THE RULES make the difference. I'm looking for another one already!

Got one finely. Little rough but Restorable. Time to decide what I will do to resurect the Playfield.

#46 5 years ago

How many people here need a new playfield/ or hardtop like overlay for their warlock?

How many people would interested in plastic sets?

I'm just gauging interest and seeing if anyone is motivated here.

#47 5 years ago

My playfield is pretty beaten up.

I plan on restoring my game one day, and then I'll have to repaint about the complete playfield as there's scratches and missing artwork everywhere. I'm aware of the amount of work but the art is not that difficult to reproduce imo, except for the red gradients in these orange lanes. Rather than airbrushing these gradients I am thinking of screenprinting them to keep the dotted pattern. We'll see in due time.

The gameplay is so amazing though that I'll be sorry not to being able to play the game whilst restoring it.

Here it is... Lots of ball swirl. Missing art in the hand. Inserts lifting. Mylar getting loose. For sure it's a challenge

Your playfield is nice. That would be fairly easy to restore.
