I used what I had on hand from an automotive repair I did. Just a rattle can of Duplicolor Clear. I sprayed the clear out in to a little dish and then used a children’s medicine “syringe” to dispense it. I let it set for 48 hours and then did a light sanding with 800 grit. Then 2000 grit. Then painted with acrylic. I am waiting for that to cure and will sand the paint and touch it up a bit. Wait another 24 hours and clear it again.
Never done a playfield repair before and it seemingly is going to come out just fine. The trick seems to be patience waiting for each step to cure properly and not rushing to the next step.
I had to paint and I am not 100% happy with the final result. I am going to sand down the decal and make a replacement waterslide decal to make it better.
It was interesting as the 7 was not very crisp like the other numbered inserts so I took a good photo, and some measurements and made a new 7 in Illustrator. I ordered some waterslide decal paper and will print and replace it so it looks as clean as the other numbers.
I left the white halftone shoulder of the original insert decal as I didn't really want to remake that.
This combo repair should look great when done.
