Stern decided to cut Puft his legs off, so I ended up giving them back!

When does he start walking?

1. Locking a ball into the storage facility (two left-to-right cycles, only for the first and second ball lock)
2. During Stay Puft mode when the destructor has been chosen
-- 2a. When Stay Puft is roasted he will fall down to the right side, simulating the effect that he died. Just like in the movie!
3. During attract mode at random times
4. During Midnight Madness

Making it so that Puft only responds to these events was not easy, in fact, it is made up by about 250 lines of C++ code.

Why only 4 trigger events?
I found these events to be the perfect mix, it needs to remain special.

The model is printed with high quality PLA+ (Eryone tough pla) at 80% infill, making the model very robust.

Update:

Gear approach.
Should make the walking a lot smoother + less strain on the servo .

Maybe you should make him walk more often? Maybe tie the puft light power source into the pops via a splitter

Obviously the possibilities are endless, but trust me, when you see puft walk that often it gets on your nerves. Its why I also disabled the attract mode function that had 3 walking cycles every minute or so. It sounds fun but it also needs to remain a bit special you know, just the right amount .

cool idea and servos are cool but the gear might be an issue - why not a low voltage geared motor with a off centre wheel that could lift and drop the stay puft.

here is a video of a test rig I did for a small project - geared motor with a wheel with 2 triggers arms on it. Instead of the wheel with the 2 trigger arms have just a round wheel but hubbed off centre so gives you an elliptical movement and then when placed right can lift and raise stay puft. Or alternatively a egg shapped disc with the hub recess in the centre to give you 2 different motions or swagger.

There's probably several mechanical movement design options that could be used to give the appearance of the figure lurching back and forth. Search around in YouTube...there are all sorts of demonstration videos.

I am sure there are but I wouldn't trust a 3d printer pla or resin gear - reckon it will be an issue

I appreciate the thinking! To be fair, i am just trying a bunch of designs to see what works best, trying to cram a servo into a really tiny space is already challenging enough. If it doesn't end up working well then i dont know if i will continue. The way mezelmods approached it was with a giant servo in the back that has 11kg/cm force, while my tiny servo only has 2.5kg/cm. By making a small gear interact with a large one i should be able to expand this. We'll see.

Right now i have got him to walk like this, hes been on for an hour and still going..!

I think i am quite happy with how puft is moving his way around right now, the fact that a micro servo is able to pull this off (compared to the giant servo in the back that mezelmods is using) is quite impressive.

The walking seen in this video was accomplished by this assembly:
