Figured out partially why my voice are very faint on my Vector, the "Speech" volume pot on the board itself had a broken pin. I tried to resolder it but it's basically broken off inside the little dial itself making it almost impossible.

Anyone know of a replacement part that could be used or even an NOS volume pot? It has three legs that solder to the S+T board, and they are very small.

thanks!

I think Great Plains electronics has them, might as well change both since these are problematic due to age and dirt.

Ditto LoveF2K...GPE...
Consider getting a cap kit for the board while you're at it. You'll need it someday as that's the main reason for S&T failures.

Have the Cap Kit, but doesn't look like Ed at GPE has the volume pots unless I'm missing them. As a side note, I had an old Sound Board (from a frontier) and de-soldered that pot, and installed it, and it's a hair louder, but still not much. The Sounds are all good and loud, it's Just the Speech is VERY faint. i've replaced about half the caps so far....

Oh, and Clays Guide talks about not having replace the tantalum caps if you have them, as they are not included in the GPE bundle I noticed. My C16 and C22 are Tatalums...

From Clay:

The biggest offenders are the final filtering capacitors at C16 and C22. These are 4.7 mfd 25 volt caps, but they should be replaced with 6.8 mfd 16 volts (or higher volts). (Note on some S&T boards these are Tantalum capacitors and may not need to be replaced, because apparently Bally saw the problem and upgraded these caps to Tantalums to fix it.)

All speech on the S&T board originates at the TMS5200. The legs on that IC often tarnish, and of course, the sockets on the board are always marginal. Start there, and work your way through the amp section.

Ed has the part,

If you have a local electronics parts wholesaler. They usually carry the pots either in bulk or packaged.
