I was doing some research but couldn't find a thread on this topic here. Forgive me if this has already been discussed to death. My quart of VM&P Naphtha has pretty much ran out, and I was looking into buying more. When I type "naphtha" into Amazon, I get results for VM&P Naphtha, Mineral Spirits and Paint Thinner.
    Examples:
    https://www.amazon.com/SUNNYSIDE-CORPORATION-80032-1-Quart-Naphtha/dp/B000LNTWPK/ref=sr_1_12
    https://www.amazon.com/Klean-Strip-GKSP94214-Odorless-Mineral-1-Gallon/dp/B000QD7PIQ/ref=sr_1_36
    https://www.amazon.com/Sunnyside-Thinner-Cleaner-Degreaser-70132/dp/B07D6H76P8/ref=sr_1_6

Seems like one quart of VM&P Naphtha costs the same as one gallon of Mineral Spirits.

On the description for the paint thinner, it says "100% mineral spirits" so it would be safe to assume those are synonyms. In researching the distinction between VM&P Naphtha and Mineral Spirits, I found a forum about painting which explained how due to the different composition, Mineral Spirits takes longer to dry (along with other differences, none of which seem particularly relevant here):

I like to use Naphtha as an initial wipe-down of a dirty playfield, and then with magic eraser to help remove dirt ground into ball swirls, planking, etc. For these purposes, should I stick with VM&P, or is Mineral Spirits sufficient?

    Quoted from ForceFlow:

Keep in mind that you're stripping the topcoat with magic eraser. Don't do that unless you're prepared to replace the topcoat with something, otherwise you're just leaving the bare paint, which will wear down fairly quickly.

Isn't the topcoat already worn down considering there are literal indentations filled with dirt ground into the paint (ball swirling and planking)? After magic eraser, I use Novus 2, then wax it

This is kind of a non-issue because he lives in California like me. We can’t buy any of it anymore. I have to pick up my supplies in Nevada.

I bought it off Amazon a few years ago with no issue. Is this recent?

    Quoted from cosmokramer:

You can buy naphtha in Cali....I use this all the time and it is straight naptha.

    Typical California bureaucratic nonsense.. .

Thanks for the tip. How does this compare to Vm&p naphtha?

The only thing like that that you can now get in California is camping fuel. Have you priced oil based paint in California lately (this year)? The few places that still carry it charge $30 a quart and it is the crappy California mix of the paint. Next time you plan an out of state road trip head to a Home Depot and stock up on supplies.

Went to my local Big 5 sporting good store and they had a gallon for ~$17 with tax of the camp fuel. This is all pretty standard bullshit for CA, I hate this state lol. Don't travel much at all but if I'm ever picking up a game east of me close to the AZ border/in AZ, I will take the extra time to get the illicit material CA has banned

My roommate just told me he's driving to AZ to see his parents, that's clutch. I'm gonna ask him to pick me up a couple gallons of the good stuff and return the camp fuel I just bought.
