Saw a commercial last night for a new show on Discovery Channel in Canada, Vintage Tech Hunters. It starts next Monday at 9pm eastern. In the second episode at 9:30, they "take the worlds first talking pinball machine to Dallas to be restored".
Thought people may be interested to watch it. I want to know what it gets valued at.
I wonder who they're taking it to.

Watched this last night. Kinda hard to watch as it seems scripted, but it was interesting.
They took the Gorgar to Fun! Billiards in Dallas hassellcastle . They said they paid $500 for it, Fun said they put $1000 & that it would be worth $3000 to $3500. Seems high for that game. Pinside database lists it as $850-1000.

Man, I want to see this!
We filmed the episode back in April and I'm unable to see it as Discovery Canada is not able to be viewed here in Texas.

Filming lasted the better part of a day. It was long and tedious but fun no less.
Scripted...of course. It's reality TV, aren't they all

As for the price, $3500 is about in line what we sell restored/refurbished Gorgar Pinball Machines at the retail level,
less expensive for sure on the secondary/collector level.

Cool! Perhaps it'll get uploaded to Youtube sometime.

I wanted to like the show. It's material I like. Old electronics, toys and video games.
But when the estimates are full blown beyond retail, eBay, etc prices, the show loses all credibility.
The Gorgar was episode 2 and there won't be a 3 for me. Come on. There isn't a Gorgar anywhere that's worth $3500 usd. You could build a Gorgar from ground up with all new parts for less if you really wanted to.
And $400 for leds? Is the shop rate $300/hour?

I will guess that after the first run of 6 to 10 episodes there won't be more ordered. Pass

Honestly for us to sell a Gorgar in the $2800 - $3500 range isn’t at all out of the question on the retail level. Buyers feel comfortable when they know they have someone to call on if they ever have a problem with during or after the warranty, whether it be 2 months or two years. We’re not going anywhere and that gives them a sense of comfort.
As for Leds from a business stand point. Leds kits (good ones, non-ghosting) are running $150-$200 From our friends at Cointaker. If anyone has ever installed a full led kit into a game you know it’s nothing you can do within 30 minutes, it’s a several hour install. Our employees are installing them and being paid by the hour. At the end of the day it’s a business and we have to turn profit. Just as the commercial mechanic does works working on one’s car. The shop rate will be more than he is paid per hour.

Please don’t take my reply as snarky. That totally isn’t my intention. Just explaining ourselves. It’s a pinball business that puts bread on the table for Our company of 10 employees.
