Ok here is the start of my 8x8x8 paint booth. It may be a little over kill but I had a 4x8 shelf prior to keep things off the ground, so I figured why not 8x8 area.

Just wanted to post what I have found with my HF HVLP gun (part no. 47016 ). I was getting ready to try and put my first clear coat on my High Speed project. I took the gun out of the box and followed the directions to do an initial cleaning. These guns are sealed with silicone caulking (a lot of it), what a mess. Does anyone know if the other HF paint guns are the same way now or is it just the 47016 gun. I not even sure if I want to try and clean it all out and use this gun. The reason i took it all apart is I noticed it was leaking when I put some mineral spirits in it to blow through it. What are everyone's thoughts?

PS: Spent the last few hours scrubbing the caulking out of the gun and sealing it with Teflon tape. I think it will do the job.
PSS: The clear went on fine after all said and done:

Quoted from vid1900:

Where is the silicone caulking on the gun?
I have a few of those guns and have never seen any caulk.
I take out a new one, blow a 1/4 cup of lacquer thinner through it, and it's ready for duty.

They are putting on all the threads, Nozzle to gun body.
Here is a youtube video I found about it:

Notes from the video:
"This is how to make your cheap 10.00 Purple Harbor Freight Gun tolerable. The gun is poorly put together and is full of junky silicone sealants that break down and clog your gun or worse, mix into your paint. The purple hvlp spray gun is an icon in the industry as a junk or throw away gun. Keep in mind. This isn't the same purple Harbor Freight gun that everyone thinks it is. There is a 30.00 harbor freight gun model 66222 and then there is the 10.00-15.00 purple gun model 47016. I am told that the more expensive gun is built way better and atomized better. For the money I would go with that gun. But if you have the 10.00 gun and want to make it work for a long time then this video will help."

I have had an HF gun in the past no issues but tossed it the last time I moved. The reason I ended up taking this one apart is it was leaking into the nozzle when I ran some mineral spirits through it the first time. That's when I found all the white caulking and started digging though the web about it. I think its specific to that part# 47016 gun. Just checked the reviews on the HF site about it ha ha ha. oh well live and learn I got mine to work. I will look at the other HF gun that comes with the regulator part#69705 ($29.99) and see how it looks next time I am at HF.
