Consoles historically upgrade to the next gen every 5 years. Now they are spending too much time trying to breath new life into old consoles with add on peripherals like Kinect. Historically, this results in a hit title or two for the new peripheral (think Sega CD) followed by waning interest when they run out of ideas. It also pulls focus away from making quality standard titles and since it takes 1-3 yrs to make a big hit title, most developers start making games for a next gen system that's a long way from release. They are just trying to bridge the gap at this point with dime a dozen crap.
