    Quoted from ctl723:

Thinking about picking up an Odyssey for pin hauling (and I guess technically as a family car). How flat is the surface with 3rd row folded and 2nd row removed? Did you need to do anything special to slide the games in and out?

It has small protrusions from the hinges and rails of the seats, but overall very flat. I use a piece of 3/16” Masonite to flatten things about so a pin doesn’t get stuck sliding in and out.

Nothing special. Both go in from the back. I use stern box cardboard and slide the pins on them and turn one horizontal. Without the cardboard it would be much more difficult. Slides easy on the cardboard to move them around into position. Have moved 2 pins a dozen times now without any problem.

I just loaded up 3 pins in a 2017 Toyota Sienna. This will work for any minivan or vehicle that will hold a 4x8 sheet of plywood. This only works with the heads removed on the rear 2 machines. With heads attached, you can only fit 2. In this example I used a Rick and Morty (Equivelant in size to modern Stern), Black Knight (Early Solid State), and El Dorado (Gottillieb E.M.).

Step 1: Remove all seats, insert plywood if you have big hooks on the floor.
Step 2: From the rear, slide the pin with head into the rear of the van and set sideways against the back of the front seats. Depending on model you may or may not be able to fit in through the side door. I use cut pieces of PVC pipe as rollers. Make sure you remove them before you drive.
Step 3: Put a big piece of cardboard behind the first pin.
Step 4: Insert Pin #2 all the way to the left.
Step 5: Insert Pin #5 all the way on the right.
Step 6: Put cardboard on top of rear pins
Step 7: Put heads in rear laying on top of cardboard
Step 8: Depending on your van, you may be able to squeeze in a dolly as well (mine barely fit). Make sure to pad with cardboard.
Step 9: Put legs and long stuff inbetween rear 2 pins on in space in front of front pin.
Step 10: Bring those machines to your pinball show of choice!

Minivans are the ultimate pin-haulers. I keep mine around just for that alone. Honestly, I think they’re better at hauling stuff than even a pickup, just for the sole purpose of them being able to carry stuff around in all weather conditions.

    Plus, they’re excellent people movers.

FYI; JJP pins don’t fit in a 2019 Mazda CX-9. Unsure about sterns….yet.

    #1706 2 years ago

    5 pins a Ram 2500 pickup.
    4 in back.
1 sans a head in crew cab.
(Head rode in the front passenger seat).

CX-5 is a better pin hauler than a CX-9. The sloping roofline on the 9 kills the space…..

Nissan Armada, check. Not sure which year the buyer had, newer model. Has about 1 inch of ceiling clearance after stuffing in a Sega large DMD game. Cardboard was needed to guide the game up over the rear seat arm rest.

i will say the scion xb is still the best - i just hit 516k on my 2nd one - still runs great - i have my third one just waiting as a backup when this one dies - i have had the backup sitting in my yard for almost 9 months now thinking i will get caught with no sticker on the other one. it most past inspection because check engine light is on - someday i will get caught and it will be taken off the road.

    thanks ed

sorry forgot to mention 2004-2006 scion xb - the first generation toaster. thanks ed

^^ This! ^^ I have moved many games in my '06 XB. Great little car. Haven't figured out how to move a NIB machine yet as I am to tall, but anything else is fine!

they fit - you have to move the front seats up close to the steering wheel - it's a little bit uncomfortable - what great cars - they never ever break down - thanks ed

    Nobody here with a Volvo XC40 2021?

    #1717 2 years ago

2018-2020 Hyundai Elantra GT? It seems like it might, but it would be close. Wondering if anyone has tried.

    My wife has a 2019 XC-40 and I just sold my XC-60. The XC-60 couldn't handle a machine, so the XC-40 definately won't.

    #1719 2 years ago

well the car is here. the game fits length wise but the head needs to be removed, the problem is the simply the height. The widest opening is 28" in the XC40 so the head has to be removed in order to transport in this vehicle. This is simple to do with a Stern but other games are a pain.

    #1720 2 years ago

Has anyone moved a pin in a Honda Passport? Just eyeballing it I think it should be workable

Do you know what the folded height of the stern was, I am trying to figure out if my 2007 Volvo XC-70 will fit a stern? I have about 30” height to work with.

I think it’s the same opening as a pilot and a pilot fits all games. You need 30-1/4” max for a stern game. Pilot has 30-3/4.

    #1723 2 years ago

30” folded as per my measurements, but 1/4 for wiggle room would be ideal as the game will be slightly taller as it slides over the edge.

The slope of the back roof section and the lip of the rear opening are an unfortunate combo...pinball machine transport-wise.

anybody know if an out of box stern jurassic park will fit in a 2019 subaru forester?

also an in box stern DP? loaded separately from the JP

    thanks

Moved 2 sterns in a 2022 odyssey with the middle seats removed and the back seats folded down. One pin lengthwise in the middle, one longways in the back in a T shape. Tons of extra room.

I just fit 2 EM's and 2 new pieces of glass in a 2021 Hyundai Tuscon with the back door closed. Spirit of 76 and Top card. Head for the wedge head fit in the front seat. Everything else in the back.

2021 BMW X3 does NOT fit a standard pin with the back box folded down. Tried and failed w/ Rick and Morty a couple months ago. Corners can’t make it past the curved roof opening.

(Site shows BMW X3 2003-2014 fits but I couldn’t find anything more recent)

Anyone know if an Audi Q5, Q7 or Mercedes GLE can fit a pin? In particular, LCD era stern & JJP?

Audi - nope. The ceiling is too low.
New Sterns have a folded height of 31" VS a 29" ceiling height on many SUV's.

X3 owner here (2018) but haven’t tried to transport a pin. Can the head be slid down, or not even close to fitting?

BMW X7 (2020) can fit a newer Stern in it, even with captains chairs for the middle row.

I didn’t consider that option so I’m not sure how much height it would save but I’d say about an inch is needed on each corner.

Thanks, guess it would depend how much slack is in the wiring to shorten the height..

2016 Honda Pilot handled South Park like a champ 30.5” of clearance! A whole 3/16 to spare (with a cardboard under the pin). South Park is 30.25” at the folded high point. Once I cleared the entrance plenty of room everywhere else.

Yep, pilot will fit any jjp, stern and bw games. Stern games are very close like you show. Great vehicle!

2010 Subaru Outback. It fits a WPC game, with some work.

Photo is from a client's vehicle. How we made it work:

-You'll probably need two people for this. One to lift and pull the front of the game and one to push.
-Remove bottom rear seat. There are two hooks on either side, you grab under the front and lift up sharply and the seat will come loose. Not sure if this was totally necessary, but I think it gave a little extra room at the front of the game so it didn't wedge upwards as much.
-Pull back the rubber seal at the top and bottom of the hatch and remove the upper trim piece and the lower trim piece. The trim is all held in place with clips and will pop out. Replace the seal after removing the trim pieces.
-Put the game in with the coin door towards the front. Have the strap's rachet and hooks on the side of the game. It won't fit if they are at the top. You may have to open the coin door so the person in the front can get a hand hold and pull the game.
-The latch for the hatch might be in the way to get the game out. You have to lift it over and it might take two people. Be prepared to remove the latch (two bolts) just in case.
-Note, you'll probably scratch up the headliner a little bit at the opening to the hatch. The game rubs the headliner when going in.
-Also be aware that you are sliding the game on the carpet and it is tight. If you have loose or splintered plywood at the front or back of the game, you may peel off a layer. You might want to put painter's tape along the front and back to protect from peeling the plywood.

I didn't help unload so I can't comment on how hard it was to get the game out.

2016 Nissan Rogue fits a DMD era Stern with cardboard underneath it, over the back box with ratchet strap and moving blanket between the cabinet and back box and tucked under the cabinet. About 1/2” to spare at the upper corners when sliding it in.

Looking to buy A Range Rover Evoque... Does anyone know if a pinball machine will fit?
    Thanks.

Not sure if you had any replies or not. If the seats do not fold flat, then definitely will not gat a game with the back box folded down in.

Older Range Rover sports up to 2012, the seats fold flat and I carried games around. Range Rover Sports 2013 onwards, the seats do not fold flat, which makes it difficult to slide a cabinet in. No good for games with back box folded. This gave me the ideal reason to get a Land Rover Defender 110. Seats fold flat and the boot floor is plastic and easy to slide a game on. Only slight issue, is that it does not lower down as far as the old Sport, meaning you have to slide out and down to either fix the legs or onto a hydraulic lift.

Older Land Rover Discovery 2 was also a good work horse for moving games. Plenty of access and seats went flat.

    Hope this helps.
