Finally in the club! Before I post any pictures, I want to get this machine back together.

Can someone let me know if this Vectorscan entry wire should be straight or offset (mine is offset). My brain says straight. Looks like photos show straight. I wouldn't be surprised if someone bent it to compensate for a switch issue.

Quoted from vec-tor:

Vector
Gate Wire:
M-1272-52 is drawn as completely flat. No forward or backward bend.

Yes, I straightened it before I installed it. I found a few more photos to verify that it was straight. Thanks for the response.

I'm thrilled to join the club. I have been wanting a Vector for a while and another Pinsider got me a lead on one that needed a lot of love. The playfield has quite a bit of wear, but everything is intact. Here is a before picture of the playfield to give you and an idea of the condition. Believe it or not, the MPU had a battery from 1986 installed and there was only minor acid damage. I usually spend hours repairing MPUs and stitching traces from acid damage. Both 6 digit displays are crap and I have one 7 digit with a burnt segment.

I need to order new drop targets and clean -rebuild the mechanisms. Also, I cleaned the flipper mechs and EOS pieces. Those are getting rebuilt too.

I'm not very fond of the coil used for the upper flipper. Even with the EOS setup to cut power early, it is still crazy powerful. Does anyone have any recommendations for a different coil? Maybe an AQ-26-600 / 34-4500. The primary coil is 5 ohms instead of 3ish.

Quoted from vec-tor:

2) Z,W,X, target uses two rubber rings.
-- 2a, You still have the #555 lamp shade sleeves that are behind the X,Y,Z, targets...

--- I would remove them and paint the #555 lamps blue...
3) double also the 1" rubber rings on the mini flippers; the front tips break from ball hits.

I would say the above items are personal preference. I never have placed double rubbers on any of my small flipper games. No broken broken flipper tips.

You will have balls stuck in a few odd locations with Vector. It's part of the game's uniqueness. Make sure it is level on the playfield left to right. Not the playfield glass, but on the playfield. Also, adjust your angle to your liking.

Your game looks great! You found a great survivor. Keep the balls fresh and clean / wax regularly.

Also, check out the home ROM software.

Quoted from koji:

Hello Vector club.
I've wanted one for a while now and finally bagged one to bring home
Thought I'd share a bit of de-ledding, as when I first picked it up, the glass was very pink, but I kind of figured perhaps it was faded as all the photos online were red.. anyway, as you can see, I was able to transform it a bit removing some LEDs... no fade thanksfully, just purple LEDs I suppose... looks like those green high score etc ones might be a bit much too..
Glad to see so many tips, I see some more tweaks I should get back to. Interestignly, the original manual did not show 2x rubbers behind XYZ, however, the rubber chart that came with my machine did show that 2x.
-----------
I have not had a chance to get into the modified rom yet, is the V4 home rom, the go to for this game now?
------
I was wondering what people think of the Shoot again switch setting? Personally, I love it, as it gives the game such a great feeling of a sport, where that extra hard/fast shot is rewarded right away. I noticed that the default / recommendation is to have this off, so figured I'd see if there are other considerations. With my current set up, it is quite difficult to achieve this, but when you do.. it feels 'right'.
Overall, I think I have my game playing well, but one issue I have noted is that on occasion, the vector scan shot will sometimes skip through the lock area, and loop right out the gate. I was wondering if this is a typical thing to happen on occasion?
Thank you-

I really like the home ROM.

I love the shoot again setting. I have it set at the higher speed setting. I took some power out of my flippers by adjusting the end of stroke switch blades because I could hit the speed each time. Now it has to be a spot on ramp shot to make the shoot again time. Dial the Vector to your liking.

Your machine is very nice looking. Keep balls fresh and clean/ wax accordingly.

You can buy the new ROMs online and install them in the MPU. Or, if you know someone, they can burn you a new set from the IPDB.org site.

Check this out for general service on your machine and making sure your boards and connectors are all good to go: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bally/Stern

What did you use for the lighting in the energy containment area?

Cool. Thanks for the info.

Quoted from mkdud:

Please help. Can anyone tell me what the purpose of this red pushbutton switch located under the PF? I see on my chart it is labeled "Vectorscan Reset", sp I'm guessing this would reset the current vectorscan record?
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Yes, it resets the the high speed record on the Vectorscan. The 3 right digits in the score display. If you push it, the speed will go to 000.

Quoted from mkdud:

Please help. I have a switch problem with my Vector. Switch test reads NO closed switches.
When I start a game, ball is served into the shooter lane and score registers 30 points.
The slings are the only switch I'm aware of that scores 30 points. Is there any other switch that scores 30?
I have checked the gap on the sling switches, they are fine. I'm guessing I have a switch diode wonky somewhere in the matrix, but I'm not sure where to check. I was going to start by replacing the (3) outhole switch diodes. Where should I be looking? Thanks in advance, mk
[quoted image]

Did you enter service mode and check all the switches in switch test? I think the Vector ramp wire gate is 30 points too. Check the gap to make sure it is not too close on that switch.

Did you just get the game and you're just getting it going or has this been an ongoing issue?
