Quoted from Aurich:

We would be much better off if part of the year they were running MMr, doing vault games, and keeping that part of the market happy, and then releasing two solid new pins a year instead of trying to cram three. I'd take two good games over three rushed ones any day.

You mean like this year? Maybe that's their new strategy from now on.

LOTR would be great but I cant see this happening:
Increased BOM would mean stern would want to increase retail cost, which would put it at cost of huo today
Plenty of LOTR available.

But the biggest reason I see for LOTR VE not happening is:
Stern whitestar would have to be changed/upgraded to SAM or SAM2

I doubt the ROI on this would justify a 400 game run.

This year is done with vault editions anyway, the line has MMr and sterns fall title to make for the rest of 2014.

Quoted from TigerLaw:

Catacomb NIB for $2,500 = me as a buyer.
More realistic would be LOTRs or TSPP. Tron will obviously always be a hit too.

I doubt you would ever see a classic stern vault title for under 4k. The profit margin just wouldn't be worth it. I know jody said maybe in the interview, but there are alot of maybes plus the market is way higher for a tspp, spidy, lotr than for an older stern.
