    Looking at this..

    https://www.taydaelectronics.com/circuit-protection/varistors.html

I don't know if these Zinc Oxide varistors would be usable, as the 70 joule variety on other sites list maximum voltage of 130.

The 70 joule variety from this site shows a maximum voltage of 300 VAC.

Am I looking at the wrong type of varistor (MOV) here?

    Those are not good subs.

It is important to get the correct voltage rating in addition to a decent energy surge rating.

    Voltage Rating:
For US/Canada use, you need 130 to 140VAC rating.
For 240 mains such as EU or Australia, you need 275 VAC rating.

7mm MOVs are far too small which is one reason why those are so cheap.
    Some pins used 15mm (e.g. Marcon TNR15G221K) but majority use 20mm (V130LA20AP).
The larger the diameter & thickness - the larger the energy surge rating (joule rating).

You can get some stuff cheaper at taydaelectronics but circuit protection (MOVs and fuses) is not a good area to skimp on. Get name brand parts for these so you really know what you are getting.

    Thank you! Great info.
