Variety bingo is not giving credits at any point in or at the end of game. Search relays are active. Search relays do not lock. They stay active. Search index does not stop. This should be a simple find but would appreciate getting started in the right direction....thanks everyone !!

the selector lock trip relay needs to be tripped. It should trip when you shoot the 4th ball.

if that's ok, I usually just grab the spinning search wipers with my thumb and move them around to a point that at least three adjacent search relays are powered, at which time the search index unit should power and hold the wipers.

the goal of moving the search wipers yourself is to see what the search relays are doing.

you can also carefully slide a piece of paper between the 120V switch contacts on the tilt trip relay switch L2 with the plastic coated wires on the blades. That will turn off the motors and you can spin the search wipers to anyplace you want.

you can look at the chart on manual page 25 and see where the wipers need to be to detect any win you set up.

Thanks Baldtwit.....I will give that a try to see what it does.

baldtwit .....I went through the procedure as you listed......the selector lock is working.....I dropped the balls to make a 5 number winner and stopped the wiper on the number to pay off the credits.....the search index relay solenoid that stops the search index wiper started smoking after a couple of seconds .....
so it looks like that solenoid was bad and not stopping the search index to pay off the credits....I ordered a couple of new ones but still looking for a good website to buy from....if you know of any please let me know.....thanks for the info.

I believe the index relay has a resistor that comes into play when the
search index relay is activated, it is a resistor that goes in series with the
coil when the search index relay activates.
It is there to reduce current drawn by the coil on "long" pay outs

bally didn't change to that design until Gay Time, which was a couple games after Variety.

I used to get parts from pinball resource, which admittedly is not convenient the first time, but then I just emailed once account is established. Marco and other pinball suppliers have the more conventional shopping carts.

'course, I have access to a few of parts machines, so I rarely needed to get a new part besides rubber rings.

I'm parting out a Big Time if you need anything.
