    Quoted from zacaj:

I always thought the vari target in Ripleys didn't play too well. With the weaker flippers and slower play on EMs, vari targets sorta make sense, but on a modern Stern I'd hit the target, and it wasn't clear why my ball was pushed back or not, how much progress was left, etc.
Plus, why would you want a mech in your game that just takes all the momentum away from the ball? They're like sand pits for pinball. The gravity target is a good mix on that since once your ball drops you get all the speed back instead of it just being eaten by the target

Disagree, always loved that on rbion. Have owned 3 rbions and never once felt it was random in why it was pushed back.
