From my personal experience with all of my topper, lasers and LED kit building, I thought a solder pot would be great for tinning wires, but you need to get one that has an adjustable temperature setting, as at times with the one that I had purchased, it was perfect for a short time but when it got too hot all I ended up with was a blob of solder vs. a nice tinned wire end..either too hot or not hot enough as needed....there is a fine temperature line needed to be more consistent.

I never did buy another one like I should have, and ended up doing it the old way...with just a soldering iron..

PS flux is needed to clean up and prepare bare/dirty wires before soldering..If I have tinned, (purchased) wire vs. bare stranded copper I do not flux unless working on a circuit board etc..
